I'd start with a non-vibrating, flexible ring, such as the 10 speed, or any of the snapping rings, or a jelly one. That way, it's not too expensive, you can see if you like it, and it's easy to get off.

Definitely, for your first cock ring keep it simple. Either a snapping ring or very flexible jelly one is a good idea, so you can take it off quickly if it becomes uncomfortable. I would definitely recommend a $10 jelly, which will be stretchy, or a slightly more expensive cockring with adjustable snaps. Metal, in my opinion, is wonderful, but should only be used by people who know what they're doing.
