Yes. My partner and I were both virgins so we really had no idea what we were doing. It hurt quite badly upon insertion as he was rather large. It hurt for me enough that my BF and I did not go through with the rest of the sex. I bled a lot the next morning. However, I have a history of sexual abuse which led to vaginismus. That means my vaginal muscles clench up, making penetration difficult or impossible. (I am past this issue now and sex is not painful for me.) If you were totally relaxed then maybe you would not feel pain.
