The romp is a handcrafted wood anal plug made by NobEssence, although they refer to their toys (with good reason!) as sculptures. The design will ensure it stays in and can apply pressure to your g-spot or prostate. The asymmetrical handle will keep they toy from slipping in too far (although it may stay better facing towards your genitals). It can also be used vaginally and NobEssence even has a recommend vaginal/oral sex technique you can try with this toy (see performance section for more).

This toy is made out of wood coated in Nobessence’s trademark Lubrosity coating. Wood is a firm material without give, but unlike other firm materials it is also exceptionally light (see performance section for more). The Lubrosity coating makes the toy nonporous, inert, hypoallergenic, odorless, tasteless, water-resistant, compatible with all know lubricants, and is free of phthalates or latex. This coating also provides a smooth finish to the toy although if you run your hand closely you can still get a sense for the natural wood grain underneath. Lastly, but certainly not least ,as it’s the question I know is on at least half your minds, it makes sure the toy won’t splinter with proper use (see care and maintenance for some notes on that). The coating is deigned to be far better than those used on wood kitchenware, and you don’t get splinters from those do you?

This toy has a rather unique shape, which reminds me a bit of a high-heeled shoe. It measure 4 1/3 inches in total length with about 3.50 of that being insertable. It starts with a tip about an inch in diameter, as you move down its length it expands to form a large bump that is about 1.4 inches in diameter along one axis and about 1.25 inches along the other. It then narrows to a neck about half an inch in diameter. From its neck, it expands to form its handle. The handle is about two and half inch in total length. As you can see in the pictures, the handle is asymmetrical with most of its length on one side of the toy and only a 1/2 inch numb sticking out on the other end. The handle at it thinnest, the small end, is about half an inch wide it expands towards the end of the long side forming a round numb like on the end of a prostate massager that measures about 9/10 of an inch wide.

Note: As these toys are handcrafted minor variations are expected but NobEssence’s site states that they take care to keep their toys within 1/8th of an inch of their intended measurements on smaller toys (which I assume this one is) and ¼ of an inch on larger toys.

I got mine in Podulk wood, a nice dark brown wood. The toy is simply gorgeous; when you see it, you will understand why Nobessence refers to their products as sculptures. Wood naturally varies in grain and appearance; no two will be identical making them each a little handcrafted masterpiece. The toy is so beautiful and doesn’t look like a tradition butt plug so if you’re bold you might even try to pass off your functional sculpture as one of those run of the mill just nice to look at sculptures.

If you’re ordering from Edenfantasys note that the exact wood shade you get may vary, as the Romp come in a full range of wood shades from the very pale to the very dark and they rotate stock. I own one other Nobessence toy a Linger (aka ergonomic one finger) that came in Black Palm, you can see the toy below for comparison. On a personal note, I don’t know why but for this toy specifically I wanted either a dark or medium shade wood I rolled the dice knowing I might be disappointed and get a light shad, I’m happy it worked out.

Overall, the romp performed magnificently as long as I have the handle pointed to my genitals. It does everything I want a butt plug to do (comfortable, good prostate pressure, will not slip in or out) and more (can use it like a prostate massager… even in public). Although performance suffers if I have the handle pointed towards my back, this is still one of my favorite plugs and is going to see a lot of play. Well worthy its hefty price tag.

To start as I said above wood is firm but light. This is great if you want the pressure of metal or glass toys without the weight, although this obviously makes it a poor choice if you want that feeling of weight. To compare the Romp weighs just 1.85 oz. my smallest glass plug, the sexy spades small, weighs 4.65 oz. and my smallest metal plug, the Pure Plug small, weighs 5.10 oz.

The toy (again when inserted with the handle facing the genitals) provides very good and intense prostate pressure. Good enough that I can activate it hands-free, by either moving my pelvis or by contracting my PC muscles, and use it like a prostate massager (including bring myself to orgasm from it). Since the handle has that numb on the end it will further act like a prostate massager by stimulating your perineum as you use it. As a perineum massager, it is not as effective as those on a true prostate massagers like the Nexus Roller Ball series or the Aneros line but it still works well making this both a great plug and a good prostate massager. The neck on the toy is sufficiently different from the rest of it that I never feared it would slip out or in no matter what I was doing including moving, sitting, and orgasm (make sure to read about putting the handle facing backwards below however). Speaking of the handle it nestled between the cheeks very comfortably, including while moving, while sitting in and for extended use. The handle also provides a good way for you or your partner to easily manual manipulate the toy for insertion, removal, or to provide more prostate stimulation.

Another thing I love about the handle is that it hits a “sweet spot” for me. It doesn’t bother me at all when I’m sitting yet it sticks out just enough that if I purposely move in my seat I can activate it and use it that way. One thing I’ve mentioned before in my reviews is that I like to occasionally use plugs to be able to discretely achieve orgasm in public, between being able to activate this via my muscle alone and by wiggling a little in place it makes this plug/massager very good for that.

As I mentioned above you can also try using this for vaginal use. As I’m keeping this for myself I can’t comment on that but Nobessence does recommend trying the following technique: Insert the toy vaginally with the handle face up, have your partner perform oral on your clitoris as their tongue works your clit their chin will rub on the handle of the Romp activating it and providing G-spot stimulation.

Now I’ve emphasized how all of the above are with the handle facing the genitals. What happens with the handle facing my back? The biggest problem is that the short little nub side slips in. It doesn’t slip in very far. It stays just inside my anus, which is mildly uncomfortable. I don’t have much fear of it slipping in completely as there is still 2 inches or so of wood that is still mostly perpendicular to the opening that would have to slip in as well for this to lead to an ER visit. However, if your very concerned about this or have a very “hungry” anus you should be aware of this. As I find it to be better with the handle pointed to the genitals anyway this isn’t enough for me to reduce the score but it does lead me in to another con of this toy. When using it pointed towards the genitals, the perineum tab can block access to the vagina, which could make double penetration with a partner difficult or impossible depending on your anatomy. Obviously, using it backwards would solve this but if your body responds to that the way mine did you probably do not want to do that.

This toy is easy to care for, for a basic cleaning just use some hot water and a nonabrasive soap. For a more thorough cleaning (a must if sharing the toy between partners or orifices) clean the toy with alcohol, peroxide or a 10% bleach solution.

The one thing you should be careful of is to not let it bump in to anything hard, such as floor, metal, glass wood, your sink etc. This can damage the toy and its finish. So be sure to store it where it won’t bump into anything (the included packaging is prefect for this, see packaging section for more) and take care not to drop it.

If notice a crack in the toy and want to check its integrity NobEssence recommends the following procedure: Place the toy in water for a few seconds and if the spot darken in response to water and remains damp when wiped then you should discontinue using the toy.

The toy will come to you wrapped in a white transport sleeve remove it and you will see a lovely brown and gray-green box that will house your toy. The box slides open to reveal your toy held in place on the inside by two straps. The box is made out of sturdy cardboard and is lightly padded on the inside making it excellent for storage and gifting friendly. The box is also discreet, the box does come with a removable label that says the name of the toy, the type of wood etc. that may give always its content just because it mentions “personal lubricants”, it otherwise just talks about “sculptures”. Other than that, the box has a little Nobessence symbol in the corner which I find appropriate to note as it is a Romp squished a bit so it looks like an “n”. Overall, classy, discreet, and functional everything I want in my packaging.
