I am displeased to learn that this item has been discontinued on Eden, but I did a quick internet search and found this item in several other places still selling for a reasonable price. Overall, beginners might still find this item appealing, and more advanced users can also still find the advanced pacifier online. I'd even say check the Eden buy/sell section.
The Love Pacifier from California Exotics is intended for use as an anal toy. Basically, the large loop handle makes it perfect for that. The small strawberry-like size of the part being inserted also means that anal use is your best bet. I have had anal toys that could be used vaginally (after being sterilized). This is NOT one of those toys for me. The size is somewhat disappointing for me, and I would not call myself a size queen. It doesn't vibrate, it offers no tricks or gimmicks. To sum it up: Put it in your butt. As for who might be interested in this pacifier, it does offer some drag, which will discourage some beginners. However, add a little lube, and it's the perfect beginner toy (hence the size being labeled "beginner" size on the box). The pacifier doesn't appeal to someone who owns even a couple of other plugs or anal toys. It's just not filling and rather boring! Still, it's small and simple, so it is perfect for travel. The handle is also rather flexible, allowing for the pacifier to be worn comfortably even when sitting. So if you like to get a little kinky and wear toys out in public, this might be for you after all!
The love pacifier is 100% silicone. I have no reason to doubt that it is, and I have never been one of the flame testers for silicone products (I'm way too scared to mess with fire!). In this case, silicone is a great choice for sanitary purposes, and I also see this product lasting a LONG time in good condition. However, silicone also adds a drag, and it brings up a difficult issue with this toy. Lubrication is necessary for the drag, yet lubrication may also make this toy somewhat "unfeelable" (I may have made up that word). The pacifier doesn't have a smell, and I'm not even mildly tempted to lick it. It actually attracts a little lint and hair, and since I shed like a pomeranian, I'm going to call that a downside, but it's never been a reason for me to turn down a silicone toy. Finally, there is a little flexibility to this pacifier, but I don't have any problems with that. I also don't find it to be a bonus in any way though.
The design is interesting...I love handles on toys that I put in my butt. It just seems SO safe. The angled head is also rather nice. I prefer it in anal play. Not all men have perfectly straight penises, so why are anal plugs often straight? I do think that for a beginners item, the size is tolerable. However, for a more experienced user, a bigger head would have made this toy so close to perfect. Still, it works exactly as I believe it was intended to. This pacifier is obviously not realistic looking, and since there is an "actual size" picture on the front of the box, I wouldn't say it is discreet. Anyone who looked at either the item or the box would know what it is. 2.25 inches is insertable. .75 inches in diameter. Once again, I would compare it to the size of a small strawberry.
If this product were a singer, it might have to be a lounge singer for me. Still, to be unbiased and to look at it as a beginner's toy, I think it would function well for someone VERY new to anal play. There is an advanced size, and though discontinued here, it can be found elsewhere online by searching (at an extremely affordable price). There is no suction cup, it's not compatible for harness use. Basically, it's basic. For beginners, basic is a good thing. Sterilization is a good thing for anal toys. You shouldn't discount this item just because it doesn't appeal to me as long as you have little anal experience. Also on the plus side, I'm getting really fond of toys without batteries. It's less expensive in the long run, and it's lower maintenance.
Do not use silicone lubricant with silicone toys! You can sterilize silicone toys by boiling, you can clean with a 10% bleach solution, wipes, foam, antibacterial soap and water, and this toy can even withstand the top shelf of your dishwasher. There are really no ridges or grooves, making this a low-maintenance toy to clean and care for. Do not store directly next to other silicone toys since 100% silicone toys can react when placed next to one another. I store mine in its original box, which is small and manageable for me. I don't have a better storage idea to offer as this collects lint and hair. Is there a silk pouch out there?
The box for the pacifier is purple, pink, and white. It says Love Pacifier as well as a few key pros on the front (Angled for pleasure, EZ-Pull Handle, 100% Silicone). Otherwise, the box doesn't contain a lot of information. No instructions come with this item, but I find it will be self-explanatory for the good majority. Honestly, for a beginner's toy, I always think that an over-abundance of information is preferable to no information at all. Finally, the box is not pretty enough to gift as is. I'd still wrap it, though I might use the color scheme of the box to layer some tissue paper or something as it is pretty.
Not discreet
Follow-up commentaryI don't like it anymore2 months after original review
Originally, I was kind of unimpressed, but I still used this item from time to time. At this point, it's no longer in use. There are just too many other options that are a better fit. However, I still believe that this would be a good item for a beginner to anal play.
