The Naughty Ruler is honestly just your basic ruler with some neat additions. It's a foot long and wider than your average ruler with a width of an inch and a half. The ruler part is made from actual, thick wood. The handle is made from leather having been wrapped around the handle and glued there. The individual pieces of leather that wrap around the handle move; so it leads me to assume that it was only glued around the top and bottom half. About four inches of the ruler is dedicated to the leather of the handle and the other 8 inches are left for use.

One side of the ruler has a traditional ruler on it. On the other side, it has the company (Ruff Doggie Styles) and the words "Do you measure up?” The Naughty Ruler comes zip-tied to a piece of cardboard that just states the name with some school symbols shown around it. The packaging states "Do you have enough lead in your pencil to get an "A" on the test to come to the head of the class?"

The ruler definitely works as an impact implement. I've used it with some force and the wood hasn't bent or broken at all. However, it is made from wood and doesn't appear to be glazed over with a finish; so be careful of rubbing this on your partner's skin because of the possibilities of wood slivers. Before use, make sure to double check to make sure there aren't any slivers already hanging off of it.

When hit with it, Jor describes this as definitely stingy. There is nothing thuddy about this at all. Whether you use the edge or the flat surface, it still appears to be stingy no matter how you do it. If you make sure to slap with the very flat surface carefully, it will be less stingy. Using the edges easily has enough force to actual leave bruises. (It's also beyond painful, so be careful.) Both of those effects were achieved with moderate force. When it comes to this sex toy, lighter is more effective than full-out strokes. Because of the light nature of the toy, even a light hit with one of these is still pretty painful.

Is it possible to be nice enough that this could be a beginner toy? Yes. You just have to be very careful. The neat thing about this is that, as you both get more comfortable with the idea and feel of it, this can easily go from "oooh" to "ouch!" with just a different flick of the wrist.

How does it feel to wield it? Pretty awesome. It's light-weight and the leather does protect against any sort of painful use. It makes me very comfortable to grasp and extremely comfortable to use. It fits perfectly into the palm of my hand and I'm sure it would work with a larger grasp as well.

So why purchase this ruler if it's just a regular ruler with a handle? Because of the handle and the wider width. I've used rulers before on person as an implement. For one, the rulers are usually way too thin to effectively strike without breaking. For another, the width is usually an inch or less which ends up making the ruler much stingier than it needs to be. For three, and my biggest point, holding a ruler can be downright painful. Both sides of the wood are usually shaped to come down to a smaller size, so when you hold it in your hand, the small-ends are usually semi-sharp and they dig into the skin of your palm. This makes for a painful time attempting to spank your partner. Also, if the ruler lands on the tip instead of the flat surface, regular rulers sometimes have a metal end along the side which is just downright dangerous. I found this ruler, made exactly for impact, to be a huge improvement over a regular ruler at not much more of a price.

I fully recommend buying this if you are looking for a cheap implement to serve as a paddle. The neat thing about this Naughty Ruler is that it fits perfect into the idea of a schoolgirl/teacher roleplay; so that can add quite a bit of fun. However, if that isn't your thing, this still works as an amazingly inexpensive paddle for naughty BDSM fun. This easily could work for beginners or advanced users without much of a problem; the only thing you should be concerned about is the possibility of wood slivers. As long as we've been using it though, we haven't ended up with any.

I won this as a prize from the contest over at Insatiable Desire . I've really enjoyed it so far and, as long as you watch for the slivers, it works great. The length allows for it to cover a large amount of area. My biggest recommendation? Use this only on the butt. Because of how stingy it is, this should stay to high-fat areas which is what the butt is. It will be most pleasurable there as well.

Anytime we plan on doing a naughty roleplaying scene, this is one of the toys we use. Granted, that doesn't happen often, but it's nice to know it's there. I tend to avoid using it for regular play because I enjoy putting some strength into my strikes, and if I do that with this one, it'll sting and possibly blister.

Nothing really has changed about it in two months. It's held up well to quite a bit of play.
