Roses flogger - whip discontinued by Ruff doggie styles - review by Kayla

The Roses Flogger is a neat flogger from Ruff Doggie Styles. It's made completely of leather, and as you can see in the pictures, it includes neat little flower roses on the end of each strand. There are nine different tails on this flogger, so if you want to get specific, it's actually a cat-o-nine. This flogger is a little lengthier than your average flogger by a couple inches with the actual length being 32 inches long. This flogger includes a hanging strap that can be used to hang it for best storage.

Each of the nine little tails of this gorgeous flogger is made up of black, braided leather. The leather is braided with some definite skill, so I don't see these unraveling anytime soon. Each tail also has three little, green leather roses that were glued and sewn to the braided tail to make up the leaves of the rose. At the very end of the tail, there is a leather rose flower which gives the strike some surface area to make it much more broad.

Handling of the flogger ends up being pretty nice. The handle is a full eight inches long. Since my hand really only covers about five inches of the handle, this could easily fit anyone's hand of a varying size - larger or smaller. The handle is not weighted, but it's really not too difficult to handle without it; for the price, I wouldn't expect it to be. The handle is covered in braided leather which makes the flogger even easier to grip.

Each strike is very thuddy instead of painful. Because all of the weight is centered in the bottom near the roses (because of the weight the roses add to the tail), this flogger tends to land with a nice thud that feels much more massaging than painful or stingy. The roses provide a large surface that diffuses the hit as well which makes it even more massaging. The leather roses don't have any sharp corners, so it won't scratch up the skin either. Since the tails are heavy, they tend to travel together as a group when swung as well which makes it easier to aim and hits a smaller area on the body of the person as well. Even if used with some force, the flogger still doesn't end up being stingy - it just drops with more of a thud than if it was used softly. If used softly, it ends up feeling sensual and "teasing" while being used with more power feels like a deep muscle massage.

The one thing that does set this flogger apart from others is the handling. The handle is great and easy to use, but newcomers to floggers may find this flogger a little too different to handle. For one, all of the weight is focused on the ends of the flogger which definitely handles more differently. I'd definitely recommend that newbies to floggers and BDSM play pick up a different flogger instead. In fact, I'd recommend the Fulfill-A-Fantasy flogger instead for its soft, sensual tails and easy to control weight. As an added note, this flogger can get heavy. During long play sessions, I'd recommend switching this one out with another flogger because this one feels heavy on your arms after awhile. It's mostly because of the weight on the tails instead of the handle that makes it feel so heavy, but it's easy to rectify by just switching or using this intermittently.

Something else that may not make this suitable for everyone is the length. Even though it is just a couple inches longer than most floggers, it just ends up feeling much longer than it really is. While the length can still be controlled, this is definitely one of those floggers that, if you want to use it correctly, you will need a large space around you. This will not, most likely, work in dorm rooms or smaller bedrooms. I know this would not have worked in our old apartment, but in our new one, we have the space in the bedroom to easily use this. (When I was attempting to swing this in the video, it was near our kitchen, and I kept catching it on a chair and the trashcan. If it catches something, it makes the tails extremely erratic and impossible to aim. I recommend making sure you have the full space to use this. Or at least wrap the tails around your wrist to make it more manageable.)

As an odd side note, the description of this product states that there are black thorns. Maybe my flogger is a defect, but aside from the tails being black, there really aren't any thorns on this at all. The black leather tails are completely smooth aside from the leaves.

Another side note: I apparently asked this of another reviewer on this product eight months ago: "Can you practically use this flogger without the roses falling off or detaching?" The answer is yes. The roses are sewn on with lots of reinforcement, and they don't really even "wiggle" by themselves. If you try to wiggle them, it actually moves the whole strand. I'd definitely say these will stay on for a very, very long time. I'd imagine the leaves would fall off long before these roses do.

Clean-up for this flogger is pretty easy. I'd most certainly recommend against getting this near bodily fluid or near lubricant, and the surface can be wiped clean with a damp cloth. Since it's a regular cloth material, I'd assume (though I'm not positive) that this is porous, so if it does come in contact with the genitals, I recommend keeping it a one-partner toy.

Overall, I honestly can't find any flaws that would keep someone from purchasing it. Yes, you should consider the long length and the handling concerns, but I wouldn't call those flaws - it's just the way it was intended to be made and features of the product. It's a gorgeous, high-quality flogger that is unique enough to stand out in group settings and looks friendly enough to be used on a beginner without concern. It's soft, easy to clean, and feels sensual and massaging instead of stingy. Highly recommended.

The Roses Flogger is still easily one of the most looked-at floggers when I go out to play parties. People always want to handle it and always want to swing it themselves. It's a gorgeous and unique flogger. Even with so many uses (it's gotta be like 40 or 50 by now), the flogger still looks amazing.

When I first saw this flogger on EF, I always thought that the roses would just fall off after lots of use. I was really surprised when I received the flogger by how well-made it is. None of the roses have fallen off, and none are even looking like they might.

It's an amazingly well-made flogger that gets a lot of attention - from me and from others. I'd still highly recommend it.
