Intima silk blindfold - headgear by LELO - review by ~LaUr3n~

LELO has been known for making luxurious toys and vibrators, but they are busting out into a new category of intimate play-light bondage. Still with their gorgeous designs, their new products look wonderful and are made of amazing materials. Their construction is also superior. One of these brand new pieces is the Intima blindfold. While this piece is still very nice in a lot of ways, it has some flaws. It is my least favorite of the three pieces I have. I also have the Boa Pleasure Tiesand the Ethrea Cuffs. I recommend this blindfold for those with smaller than average heads, those who like their blindfolds really tight, or people who feel up to modifying it.

MATERIAL:

These look amazing! I felt like royalty opening the box and gazing at the gorgeous red 100% silk. One side is smooth and has no design or pattern, while the other has a leaf or flower with stems design (I couldn't decide which). This causes it to have some texture, but not any discomfort against the skin. I got them in red and you can clearly see the pattern. I found it weird that the smooth side is what faces outward on this blindfold. So when you are looking at a person wearing it, you see the smooth side, not the pretty design.

DESIGN/CRAFTSMANSHIP:

The blinding part is rather small. It’s only 2 1/4" over the eyes and 1 1/2" over the bridge of the nose. It is just as thick as the other parts of the blind fold. It completes a circle where the back 3" are a very strong piece of elastic band that is covered with bunched silk. On either side of the end of this stretchy section are the long silk bands that tie behind the blindfold. They are 23" long and 1 3/4" wide. It is very well made with strong stitching and the elastic band. There is a tiny LELO tag on the side that doesn't take away from the beautiful design.

SIZE/FIT:

The elastic band is very stretchy but it is also really strong. This keeps it taut against the face. The circumference of the inside of the blindfold is about 20" without being stretched. My head is 22" around and it fit tightly. I have had a few boyfriends that have had large heads. Sizing is probably more of an issue for males than it is for females. This will not fit anyone over about 23" comfortably.

NOTE: There is a slight smell, but this is caused by the tissue insert and goes away with time.

This fit me very snuggly. So snuggly, that the eye portion creased from stretching and crimped into my eyes a bit which let in light. My ears looked silly sticking out, and tucking them in made it even tighter. The worse part about the fit for me was that it hurt my eyebrow piercing by pressing it into my orbital bone. I had to take it out to wear this comfortably. My boyfriend's head is only slightly larger than mine, but it was enough to make this not comfortable for him. I was still able to use it with a bit of creativity. I folded the blindfold down flat and placed that against his eyes while using the silk ties to tie it behind his head.

The thing I liked most is the ties. While I wore it, my boyfriend could tie them in a bow making it look pretty, or he could get a little kinky and tie my head to the leg of a table, head board, or door knob. If you are good with knots like me (girl-scouts, thank you very much!) you can tie the hands to each silk tie also. Taking the blindfold off, you can put your ankles or wrists together and tie them together too. The bad thing about the ties is that it doesn't make this safe for doubling as a sleep mask.

Since this is 100% silk the best way to take care of the material is to dry clean only. Silk is extremely delicate and things like oil and certain lubricants can permanently stain the material. Take care when using these. Store them in the box when not in use.

It comes in a small glossy black box with a picture of the product on the front which wraps around the sides. The commercial artist for this company deserves a raise because I absolutely love the work they did on this. A single word appears on the front in silver letters-LELO. The back has a very brief blurb about the contents in five different languages, with another more complete picture of the Intima blindfold. Inside is the traditional ominous LELO black box. The top comes off and inside is some thick tissue paper. The blindfold is carefully folded inside.

After a bit of debate, I am giving the Intima blindfold 4 stars. Does it fit perfectly? No, but it can be modified to do so. It is made of amazing silk and is gorgeous. The design of the attached silk bands make this have a much more creative and versatile use than just a blindfold which is why I decided to give them 4 instead of 3 stars. Lelo is on the right track!
