Aslan ball gag - mouth gag discontinued by ASLAN Leather - review by Rawhide

Gave this as a present. It was specifically asked for, and with Aslan Leather's reputation for quality I could immediately tell why this was the one she wanted. It's certainly the prettiest ball gag you ever did see, very cute, very femme. Then I thought to myself, "Surely I can get a pink and white ball gag for less than this!" so I shopped around a bit. In the end, I'm very glad that I came back and bought this one. Needless to say, it was very well received.

The ball is candy pink, looks great between the lips and reportedly has no taste whatsoever. It is a tough little thing—no teeth marks or scratches despite hard use. The size is just about perfect though it's going to vary for mouths of different sizes. The silicone has some give to it; firm enough to be effective (achieving those great muffled screams and sighs), soft enough that it won't cause serious jaw soreness. Though I can't ever remember leaving it in for more than an hour, so your miles may vary. With gags, I prefer to be able to buckle them fairly tight but still have her be able to get it out herself in case of an emergency. I can buckle this one comfortably tight and she can get it out with little effort if she needed to do so, even with her hands bound. It is very adjustable with tons of holes along the strap. I am used to having to put extra holes into collars and gags myself, so that is a welcome relief.

The snaps are sturdy—I've pushed and pulled on it and have yet to have it come undone. There is a chance it might unsnap if you were violently jerking it around really fast, but that kind of play isn't recommended for something that is attached to the head.

The leather is top notch as you might expect. It's soft and supple, easy to manipulate, and very nice against the skin. The white is bright and goes great with the shiny hardware. The color won't transfer, but white is a high maintenance color on leather for other reasons. First, it is vulnerable to stains. Second, when it needs conditioning (which won't be for very long time, if this is only used inside and not exposed to water or the elements), you will need to be careful if you want to preserve the bright white color as the conditioner can darken it. Test a small dab of conditioner on an inconspicuous area of the leather first, then decide if you want to proceed. High maintenance, but for some people white is worth it. Gotta say that the combination of pink and white is very attractive, so much so that I'm pretty sure Aslan is coming out with a harness that matches.

One thing I really appreciate about this gag is that it can be totally disassembled for cleaning. No one likes a gross, sticky gag in their mouth! Silicone once again proves itself to be a great material for toys—unsnap the ball from its leather and boil it. You can even throw it in the dishwasher. Just be careful that no one mistakes it for a super ball or a chew toy.

For the leather: no regular soap! It will shorten the life of your leather. Use something specifically formulated for leather. Saddle soap (widely available, from CVS to tack stores) will keep it nice and clean, and if you use liquid glycerin saddle soap, it will get some conditioning in there as well and you may never need to use actual leather conditioner. After play, if the leather straps have gotten sweaty, give them a quick wipe with a moist cloth so that the sweat doesn't just sit there.

All in all, I love using this gag!

I have found that this ball gag can also double as a leather collar. You can unsnap the piece of leather that holds the ball and then lock the two open rings on each end together with a small padlock, keyring, or connecter of your choice. It is thinner than lots of collars but the white leather makes it stand out nicely. It works great if you need a collar in a pinch.
