Silk medium - strap-on dildo by Tantus - review by Vegan Silk

I bought this toy for vaginal use. There are a couple reasons that I get sensitive and need a more gentle toy. In the days leading up to my period my vagina gets a bit tender. Anything that is firm, or large tends to hurt. However, on the days leading up to my period I get really horny from all those hormones rushing around. So taking a break is not something that is ideal. I also can get a bit sore from intense sexual encounters with my partner. We tend to not always be in sync with our lust cycles, so when we are aligned we go for quite a while and I end up sore. But for me, sexual fulfillment is a positive feedback loop. The more I get it, the more I want it. But my the tenderness leaves me needing a more gentle experience.

This toy fits the bill. It is smooth, small, and squishy, so I don't add to my discomfort and I am still able to enjoy a penetrative experience. I use it three ways vaginally. Thrusting works alright, though sometimes I am still to sore, and if I am not sore it is a bit small for me. I also enjoy using a clitoral vibrator while just clenching down on it. It gives me just enough fullness, that I can come more easily. Clitoral stimulation on its own takes a while for me, and when I'm already tender, I want satisfaction quickly or it can turn to discomfort. Lastly, I sit on it and grind. This gently rocks the curved tip into my g-spot which feels wonderful.

Keep in mind that this is not firm g-spot pressure, but a gentle rocking. This works well for me when I'm tender, but may not provide enough stimulation to everyone as it is a fairly soft toy.

While I have not tried it, the Silk Medium can be used anally. I have only started anal play and do not yet feel comfortable with the idea of a thrusting toy. However, it has a nice flared base, and modest size so it could be good for anal beginner/intermediate users.

The Base also makes it harness compatible, so it is a great toy for couples looking for a smaller dildo. Because the material is so forgiving, it is very easily used in couple play with or without a harness. There is no danger that an over zealous thrust will hurt someone's cervix.

The toy is 100% silicone, and Therefore completely waterproof. However if you need lube, it can be tricky when wet. Because the toy is silicone, water based lubes are recommended (silicone lubes can hurt the material), so it may wash away.

As I just mentioned, this toy is made from 100% silicone and completely nonporous. It is squishy and flexible (enough to bend in half), which is great for those like me who can get tender before their period or after other sex. However it was not too flexible, and still easy to insert. The material is smooth and seamless which is ideal for beginners and sensitive types.

The material had no odor out of the box, and has not picked any up. It does have a faint taste similar to a plastic cup, but it is not very noticeable. I am very sensitive to chemical smell and taste and this toy doesn't bother me at all. If you covered the dildo in lube or your own wetness, that flavor will definitely be the one you taste.

There is a slight drag to the silicone which feels great vaginally, but could be diminished with the introduction of more water based lube if it is not desired. It picks up a lot of lint like all my other Tantus silicone toys, so keep it clean and be sure to check for stray lint before using.

The simple sleek design worked great for my body. It is completely smooth, no bumps or ridges, and only a slight curve along the shaft. Because it is fairly flexible it will easily form to the shape of your vagina (or anus) comfortably. The slight curve hits my g-spot perfectly. It is still a more gentle sensation due to its flexibility, so if you need firm g-spot pressure this toy may not work well for you.


It is not a large toy by any means; in fact it is even smaller than the specs page suggests! With my tape measure I recorded 3 3/8ths inches of girth which translates to just a little over 1 inch in diameter. I measured its length at 5 1/2 inches, with just over 5 insertable. Maybe that seems like splitting hairs, but a quarter inch increase(decrease) in diameter is more than 3/4 increase(decrease) in girth. This isn't a huge deal for vaginal use, but having my sphincter stretch that much more is difficult. So if you are warming up in stages to larger anal toys, keep in mind this won't stretch your ass as much as the specs page suggests and you may need another intermediate sized toy before going to the next size.

Many older reviews mention the base is flimsy. Well, it looks like Tantus has listened and redesigned. Mine has a nice solid base which is 8 3/8 in circumference (2 2/3 inches in diameter). It stands up by itself without problem (which is great for air drying), and should work in most harnesses.

While the dildo does not look anything like a penis (except for its general phallic nature), it most definitely looks like a dildo. It is small enough to pack away so it can be discrete and is easy to take with you. But bear in mind, it can't be mistaken for anything else if discovered.

This toy works really well for what I need. Its slender shape, flexibility, and smoothness are perfect for my most sensitive days. My libido doesn't seem to get the message that vulva and vag are feeling extra delicate due to hormones or recent rigorous activity, so it is great to have a toy that works for me on those occasions.

I love sitting on top of it and grinding against it, which rocks the tip into my g-spot. Though it is small it hits all the right places.

You have to be sure you want a smaller toy, and those that need girth should look elsewhere. But if you are looking for a small sleek design, this product is fantastic.

As mentioned above, the Silk Medium is 100% silicone. It can be completely sterilized by boiling it or by soaking it in a 10% bleach solution if you are going to share it between people, or use it in different orifices. If you do not need it completely sterile, a quick wash with soap and water keeps it nice and clean. It easily stands up allowing it to air dry which avoids towel lint.

I store it wrapped in a smooth cloth to keep it from gathering lint. It is a magnet for the bits of everything, so if you do not have lint free storage remember to give it a rinse before use.

Water based lubes can be used with this toy. Do not use a silicone lube as that can degrade the material.

Like many Tantus toys, the Silk Medium comes in a sturdy clear plastic box with the Tantus logo. It is very classy, but not discreet. It is a bit tricky to open the outer box, and inside the toy sits in a clear clam shell. Due to the elaborate procedure to removing the toy, I just discarded the box.

I really appreciated that there were no cheesy pictures of scantily clad women making sexy pouty faces. Those annoy me. It was just a delightfully straightforward presentation.

There were no instructions, but the simplicity of the toy doesn't require any.
