Male Dominance and Female Submission

He's on Top gives a new look of male dominance. It takes away the bad rap they so often receive. The multiple contributing authors, both men and women, bring out the dance of master and slave. Men show their power in multiple ways. This book is filled with control, spanking, dating, sex, and desire. It will leave you breathless. I strongly recommend He's on Top.

About author

He's on Top is edited by the well-known Rachel Kramer Bussel and includes erotic tales from seventeen authors; including Bussel. The editor, Rachel Kramer Bussel is a prolific erotica writer. She is known as an author, editor, blogger, and journalist. She is also the senior editor at Penthouse Variations. She can be found on the web at her website rachelkramerbussel.com.

As for the ripe list of authors, they vary from men and women, all with the same goal- to tell erotic tales of women being submitted by dominant men.

The authors are: Lee Ash, M. Christian, Matt Conklin, Mackenzie Cross, Andrea Dale, Amanda Earl, Shanna Germain, Debra Hyde, Mike Kimera, Gwen Masters, N.T. Morley, Teresa Noelle Roberts, Thomas S. Roche, Jason Rubis, Lisabet Sarai, Donna George Storey, and Rachel Kramer Bussel.

The authors in He's on Top are all very different. Some are freelance writers, poets, journalists, musicians, and even novelists. I did read through about the authors in search of new faces. Unfortunately, in this book, there were no newbies. All of the work in this book is from well-known acclaimed authors.

Content / Style / Audience

I believe the ultimate goal of this book was to provide readers with a new outlook on dominant men. Rachel Kramer Bussel wanted to show a new view on it. She wanted to take away the "bad rap" they so often receive. The writers of He's on Top "show a more nuanced, and infinitely sexier, version of BDSM." Dominance is a dance, not just someone taking what they want. It is an exchange between us that allows the full beauty of the eroticism to be unveiled. He's on Top paints the perfect picture of that scenario. The writers place beauty into something that might otherwise be considered bad. I believe this book has the possibility to open the eyes of all readers. It can be enjoyed by men and women. I encourage those who have fantasies of being submitted or submitting another, to read this selection. I promise this book will leave you breathless and walking away with a new outlook on true male dominance.

Design

He's on Top is held up to the normal standards of Cleis Press. It is a soft cover edition, that is is erotically covered with a woman being held by her collar. He's on Top is printed largely across the front in deep red. The cover was very appealing to me. It gave me a glimpse of what was ahead. Inside the book, the cover, copyright, index, and introduction or preface pages can be found. The book has a total of seventeen erotic tales covered through 164 pages of the book. The book is 180 pages in total with the included author section at the back. The book has decent binding and pages. The cover is paper back though, and does tend to curl with extended reading. I simply lay it flat and place a larger, heavy book on top of it to straighten it back out. The entire book is very well put together and I enjoyed the overall layout. I am never disappointed when it comes to books that are published by Cleis Press. They do a very good job in printing quality made books.

Personal comments

I enjoyed most of the tales in this book. Some were short and sweet and others had more plot to them, and were a bit longer. One of my favorite reads was the very first one. I understand why Rachel Kramer Bussel used it as the opening piece. It is "Not Until Dawn." During the story a man teases his partner all through the night. He tickles, licks, and fingers her. She begs him for hours to give in and allow her to be pleasured and to pleasure him as well. By the end, they both receive what they want. The ending was hot, steamy, and breathtaking. It was a wonderful introduction. A few others I enjoyed were "Confession" and "A Good Reference." Those are probably my top picks from the book. Nonetheless, it is filled with seventeen stories that are all very different. I sometimes get irritated with formula fiction because you can always predict what is going to happen next. That was not the case with He's on Top. I loved most all parts of it. There was only one tale that bothered me slightly, and this is just because of the ending. It was "In Control." Basically it is about a master and a slave meeting online. It was an okay read. It was a bit boring to me and then the ending did not make any sense because it was not followed up. I do not want to go into too much detail, as I can easily ruin the story for you. You will just have to get He's On Top and read it for yourself. Other than the one disappointment from "In Control," the rest of the book is an excellent read. I encourage you to experience it, even if you have never been interested in BDSM. This piece just might change your mind.
