Use

Kama Sutra has produced their own massage candles to add to their ever growing line of sensual products. These 6.5 oz candles come in four different aromas that are meant for couples messages but by no means exclude solo users from trying them on their own. Since this is a message candle there should be no reason why it would not work for anyone and everyone who enjoys hot, natural, skin conditioning oil lathered on their bodies. Just remember to extinguish the flame before enjoying yourself. While this candle can be used to add a pleasant scent to your home these candles were made primarily for the boudoir. One word of advice though, this line of massage candles does contain Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride which has some glycerin in it. Now this product is not for internal use to begin with but just remember to keep this away from sensitive areas if you’re prone to yeast infections. Besides that all of the other ingredients are body safe so sit back, relax, and enjoy.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

Kama Sutra’s message candle has the perfect texture, it not too thin but not too thick either. This is surprising since it does come packaged in a solid form but the oil lathers on with a luxurious feel to it. The nice thing is the candle doesn’t need to be melted all the way to have this affect. When I scooped up a melted portion of the candle I ended up with some of the bits that we not quite melted as well. To my surprise they glided on and absorbed into the skin just as well as their liquid counterparts.
Since the packaging does include a spoon pouring the melted oil onto the skins is super easy and once its applied the oils stays at a pleasant temperature that isn’t hot enough to burn. You will find that, since this product is a message oil, it will obviously be oily. The great thing is even though its oily it isn’t too greasy were you’ll feel gunky after its applied.

Taste / Aroma

This line of message candles by Kama Sutra comes in four scents: Island Passion, Tropical Nights, Deep Ocean, and Mediterranean Almond. I chose Mediterranean Almond which is described on the product page as “A refreshing mix of almond and cherries is accented with hints of bergamot and clove.” Now upon opening the tin, before I had even lit the candle, thought this was going to be a strong scent. The cherries are the most overwhelming smell seconded not by almonds so much as that hint of clove that was thrown in. This won’t scent your room like an air freshener unlit but will leave a lingering scent by the shelf, nightstand, or drawer you keep it in if the lid isn’t on.
Once you light the candle there’s not really much of a difference in the scent versus when it’s unlit. This will disappoint those of you who like really aromatic candles that fill the entire room with their scents. But for those of you who only want a light aroma that encompasses you and your partner while using the oil then this will defiantly please you.

Performance

Kama Sutra states on the product page and on the packaging that this candles should last for 35 hours of use. Although the manufacturer also warns that if skin irritation begins to occur before the 35 hours are up you should consider the candle discontinued. If you do note skin irritation when using this product you probably want to throw it out. The directions on the packaging also suggest that it should take 20 minutes for the candle to melt properly before you can use it. Now I’m not sure if they meant that it would take 20 minutes for a full layer of the candle to melt or just a spoonful for use. Since candle wicks tend to get shortened or submerged if an entire layer isn’t melted I would think Kama Sutra meant the candle melt quickly within the 20 minute estimate. But I’ve found that after the allotted time one would only receive maybe a spoonful of oil. Burning the candle at 20 minutes will have the candle melted at a 1 inch radius from the wick. If you are trying to burn the candle evenly then it’s going to take over an hour to even out.
The oil is fairly easy to clean up since for the most part it absorbs into the skin. For the individual receiving the message I’m sure this will be a pleasant experience. As for the masseuse whether or not you’re going to want to wash your hands afterward depends on your personal preferences. The oil it nice and silky but will leave your hands feeling slightly oily for a few minutes, nothing I’m too concerned about but some people may not like the feeling at all. I personally think this absorbs quickly enough that most people shouldn’t need to wash their hands afterwards.
    • Absorbs into skin nicely

Packaging

The Mediterranean Almond message candle comes in a sturdy and lovely package made of tin. Because the packaging is made of a metal material I wouldn’t recommend picking this up right away with uncovered hands. This isn’t a big issue if your careful but try to remember to turn off the flame before you begin to use this product. On the up side Kama Sutra has provided a clear, plastic, spoon so you won’t have to burn your hands when applying.
I read in another review that there were some problems with the lid of the tin not being stable enough to stay on. Now mine doesn’t have that problem but it could be luck of the draw that this didn’t happen to me. The lid can be pulled or twisted off depending on your preference. I would say this is a very discreet and travel friendly product as long as you take the Kama Sutra sticker placed in the ‘front’ of the tin off. Once that’s removed this just looks like a regular candle.
Kama Sutra is kind enough to provide directions for proper usage of their massage candles for perspective customers on the outside of the tin. In fact they provide these directions in four different languages: English, Spanish, French, and what I think is German. Directions: “Trim wick ¼ inch before burning. Let wick burn until a warm pool of oil forms-approx. 20 minutes. Extinguish flame and spoon warm oil into the palm of your hand as you take your lover on an unforgettable, romantic journey.” Yup that’s exactly what it says and from what I can tell it’s not exactly spot on, note the remarks made about the 20 minute rule in Performance.
    • Discreet looking packaging
    • Minimal
    • Would make a nice gift
