Heaven DOES Exist!

This is the best massage candle I've ever used. Finally! A massage candle that smells good, burns at a low temperature, creates actual OIL instead of wax, absorbs into the skin, feels great... I could go on and on. I have nary a bad word to say about Kama Sutra's massage candle.

Use

For sultry nights of intensely unique pleasure, Kama Sutra (KamaSutra.com} brings us their very own massage candle. The best in its class, with a delightful fragrance, natural ingredients, a low burning temperature, and an oil that spreads lovingly and naturally into the skin, this candle is all that you need in a product of its kind.

Made from soy wax, this candle burns at a low temperature so that the oil it produces will be cool enough to drip safely onto skin. The result is an exciting warmth, a sense of danger, an exercise in trust for you and your partner(s).

Leaving the tin open to the elements next to your bedside when not in use results in frequent drafts of delicious-smelling air. The fragrance is potent, so I hope you like almond scents!

The skin-friendly ingredients Kama Sutra uses here are as follows:

Coconut oil, soybean oil, apricot oil, fractionated coconut oil, aloe vera oil, vitamin E oil, shea butter, Jojoba seed oil, fragrance.

Other than the addition of fragrance, which is a largely unregulated cosmetics ingredient that can contain potential allergens, the stuff this candle is made of makes me smile alot. Natural oils make my skin happy! And they feel damn good.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

This coconut oil-based candle doubles as a moisturizer. Have you ever used baby oil or another type of oil in place of lotion? When I was living in Italy I frequently used olive oil for my hair and skin, and now in America I use coconut oil after the shower as a natural way of replenishing my skin's softness. Kama Sutra uses the same concept here.

In the jar and at room temperature, the 'wax' is very soft. I say that in quotations because technically there's no wax in this candle, and it certainly doesn't behave like a wax, which is a good thing! Massage candles that act like wax and leave yucky unpleasant residue on the skin are no fun. In fact, they quite tick me off.

A firmly-poised finger pressed into this candle (go ahead, you know you want to do it!) is met with a fair amount of resistance, but the concoction can quite easily be manipulated - you can make a smiley face in your candle if you want. And when you're done you can smoosh all the stuff around until your smiley face disappears. It's that supple! I'll liken the consistency precisely to coconut oil at below room temperature, in its solid state.

Once lit, the oil that forms is thick as olive oil, pours easily, glides over the skin, and feels soft and silky. It leaves the skin well-moisturized for a fair amount of time. It never gets greasy or sticky, and certainly never turns into nasty waxiness that has to be washed off. Thank god! Finally, a massage candle that can be used for massage oil. This is seriously a rare find.

Taste / Aroma

I ordered the Mediterranean Almond scent and was incredibly delighted to find it smelled just like almond extract! If you've ever used Burt's Bees' Almond Milk creme for parched knuckles and elbows, you know what I mean. The two products smell almost identical.

The fragrance can be rather strong. If you're sensitive to fragrances, I recommend skipping this. You may be nauseated by the scent - it can be sweet as well as overpowering, but mostly only if you're sticking your nose in it. Still, as I mentioned earlier, it has a tendency to potpourri at least its own little corner of a room. For someone who loves this smell, that's really a bonus.

Performance

Once the wick is trimmed to 1/4", this may be lit - preferably with a match, as they're nicer to the environment and smell like birthdays when they go out. Plus, they're more romantic.

Immediately a small pool of oil forms, and within five minutes you'll have enough liquid to do a light rubbing over the average-sized person's back. Waiting longer periods of time yields more liquid, of course, and it never gets too hot to safely use on human skin.

Holding the extinguished candle within an inch or so of your partner's skin results in the warmest possible application of the oil. Holding the liquid farther away from the skin as you drip it will appease those less interested in the near-burning sensation of warm liquid.

Coconut oil melts at a mere 76 degrees and is easily absorbed into the skin. So even when it cools on your skin, you won't find little pools of white waxy substance. Every other massage candle I've used does this. Every other massage candle I've used also burns much hotter than this. If you're into the temperature play aspect of massage candles in an extreme way, you may want to go for a hotter-burning candle. This is mild at best in forms of burn risk.

The candle comes with a small, inexpensive plastic spoon for ladling the liquid onto your partner, but I tossed it. I pour the liquid directly from the candle onto my victim, I mean partner, and catch the dribbles with my finger. Sometimes a bit of oil will cool and harden on the side of the jar, but it's very easy to wipe off with a finger and flick back into the candle for next time.

I love the way coconut oil feels on the skin. It's sensual, slick, and not too greasy. It absorbs well into the skin and leaves it feeling moisturized and refreshed. You can even scoop out the oil in its cooled state and apply it directly to skin that way.

The oil as-is, before lighting the candle, applied directly to my skin. Excuse the fuzz - I left the lid off for weeks and it collected cat fur.

The beginnings of absorption - the oil has been lightly massaged into the skin for about five seconds.

A few rubbings and moments later, it's fully absorbed and I'm moisturized!
    • Absorbs into skin nicely

Packaging

Presentation IS everything. What a cute jar, and it has instructions too!

Photo of tin with a computer mouse for scale.

This 6.5 oz, 184 gram candle is more than enough for 35 full hours of burn-time. The jar is beautiful, classy, and discreet. It doesn't scream 'sex!' but then again, the company name is written across it, and 'Kama Sutra' is associated with sex. Still, unless you're one who likes to be VERY discreet, this won't be a problem. Or you can tuck it in your sexy drawer until you're ready to play - it's certainly compact enough.

The metal tin features a beautifully-designed label, an ingredients list, instructions for use and precautions as well. The tin may become warm to the touch during use, so be sure to handle it with care! It is metal, after all.

I love how reusable the tin is, too. The lid is solid and high-quality, and pops off to fit perfectly underneath the candle while in use. When you've used up all the wax, this would make a great little condom container or jewelry box. It's that cute and sturdy!

Special Features

I love to use the wax in this by itself even without burning the candle as a quick skin-moisturizer when I'm too lazy to get out of bed and go to the bathroom for lotion. I keep the candle by my bedside with the lid positioned underneath so that the intoxicating scent can pleasure my nostrils on occasion.

On the skin, it does a great job at restoring softness, but the fragrance doesn't last at all. That's fine, as I don't want to go around smelling like an almond, but I do like to catch a whiff of it on occasion.

This really is a wonderful massage candle, and I'd recommend it to anyone.
