Feelin' Salty! (Blue Lotus)

Are these truly aphrodisiacal? I can't say for sure, but I can tell you that these salts left us feeling relaxed, and with silky skin. I wish there had been more of these salts in the package, but they were fun while they lasted.

Use

Dona Bath Salts by JO are designed to help you relax, as part of a nice soak in a warm/hot bath. The salts are, according to the label, "step # 1" of "an aphrodisiac infused ritual". I don't know what the other steps are supposed to be, or whether this product truly does have aphrodisiacal properties. I can say for sure that it helped my wife and me to relax. And, somehow, each time we used this, we did end up having sex. Go figure!

The ingredients are as follows (for the Blue Lotus version):
Sodium Chloride, Magnesium Sulfate, Silica, Maltodextrin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Beta Glucan, Panthenol, Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein, Allantoin, Aloe Barbadensis, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Oil, Laminaria Digitata (Algae) Extract, Nymphaea Caerulea (Blue Lotus) Flower, and Fragrance.

My wife is always concerned when "fragrance" is an ingredient, as some fragrant products contain phthalates. I don't know whether that's the case with these salts.

Dona bath salts size comparison

My only complaint is that the 9 oz jar only contains enough salts for about 3 baths.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

The salts are somewhat similar in size and shape to rock candy. They are quite hard in the package, but dissolve pretty well when placed under warm running water. Once dissolved, they add a little bit of silky texture to the water. I wouldn't say they make the water oily, exactly, but they do add a little silkiness to it. They also left my skin feeling silky.

Taste / Aroma

My wife and I disagree completely about the smell. She finds it too strong and says she wouldn't want to buy this again because of that. But I LOVE the smell! It IS pretty strong when you're smelling the salts in the package, but once they are dissolved in the water, the aroma is much more subtle. To me, the Blue Lotus scent is like Lavender, but with a tangy "kick". Of course, there is also a definite saltiness to the scent. (I would NOT recommending tasting this, or any other bath salts, for that matter.)

They are also available in 5 other scents: Acai, Camu camu, Goji berry, Mangosteen, and Pomegranate. Unfortunately for my wife and me, they don't make an unscented version.

Performance

Neither of us had used bath salts before, and the directions are vague: "Add generously under running water into bath tub". Since nothing else is included to measure these with, I used the lid. I found 2 slightly-heaping lid-fuls was just right for our medium-sized tub. I recommend, however you choose to measure these out, to do it over the bathtub; any salts that end up underfoot on the floor will end up making a bit of a crunchy mess! Fortunately, only a couple of the salts got away from us. The rest ended up in the tub.

I poured them under the water and found they mostly dissolved. I swished the undissolved remainder around a bit, until it also disappeared into the water. I thought the dissolved salts smelled great; as mentioned above, my wife found it overly strong, even once the salts were dissolved in the tub.

We both found our soak together extremely relaxing. We lit a few candles and turned off the lights, to enhance the mood. We soaked for about 20 minutes, draining out some water and refreshing the bath with warmer water a couple of times. We both enjoyed the way the salts felt on our skin.

After the soak, we headed over to our bedroom to continue the sensual enjoyment.

My wife didn't join me for the remaining two soaks, so I enjoyed those by myself over the next couple of weeks. Oddly perhaps, though my wife dislikes the scent of these, whether in the container or in the tub, she DOES like it on my skin, and we ended up back in the bedroom after both of my solo soaks. Maybe there IS something to this aphrodisiac stuff after all!

Follow-up commentary
Well, this has been discontinued. That's a shame, because I loved the way this made me feel. And the smell - oh man. I still have the jar, and sometimes I open it up just to take a whiff. Aromatherapy?

My wife wasn't as into these salts as I was/am, because of her concerns about chemicals. But if this product comes back, and they offer the Blue Lotus scent, I'll probably get some more.
