Great Oil, Awful Smell

This product was ruined by the smell. Good Clean Love Passion Candles are great massage oil. I just never got past how distracting the smell was. I would not recommend buying this product, unless you have smelled it first. If you can handle or like the scent than I think it will be great product for you.

Use

I was very excited about the Passion Candle by Good Clean Love. It is an organic candle intended to provide aromatherapy and burn down to massage oil. Good Clean Love even donates money to charity! The product sounded great. Unfortunately I cannot stand the smell.

Like all Good Clean Love products, the Passion Candle is 100% natural and organic. This is what originally drew me to the candle. The candle is vegan. It does not contain any Petro-chemicals or Parabens. The product is safe and non-toxic. Ingredients: Soybean oil, coconut oil, hemp oil, avocado oil, jojoba oil, apricot oil, vitamin E, proprietary blend of essential oils.

The product is meant to provide an aromatic mood setting and be used as a massage oil. It can be used by any couple. This is great for anyone who is looking for an organic aromatherapy candle.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

The massage oil rubs on very nicely. It never ever got sticky or waxy. The product also moisturizes the skin beautifully. My skin felt extremely soft the next day. I loved the warmth of the wax on my skin and how it felt during my massage.

Taste / Aroma

If I could change anything it would be the smell. I had Caribbean Rose. Hopefully the other 2 scents, Origins and Indian Spice are better. This is a great product, with an undesirable scent. Sensual candles are supposed to set the mood. This candle distracted me. I couldn’t get past the scent. It was too earthy. I love the way a lot of the ingredients smell, but there is something in the candle, I just do cannot stand. It has kind of a musky dirt scent. You know when you smell an incense that makes you take a step back because it’s too powerful and too distracting? I had the same reaction to this candle.

For research purposes, I asked 3 friends to smell the candle and give me their opinions. One said it smelled like chemicals, another said it smelled like natural medicine and another said it smelled like the organic products were competing. None of them liked it and all 4 of us agreed that the scent takes away from any sensual experience.

Performance

This is great hot massage oil. Pour it on the skin and then rub it in the same you would a regular massage oil. The wax is a great temperature; it’s hot but not too hot that it burns the skin. Rubbing it on someone else was very easy. It slides around nicely on the back. It is a bit thicker than other oils. I’ve found all of the massage oil candles I’ve tried to be thicker than regular massage oil.

I used soap and water to wash it off and it came right off my skin. There was no mess involved.

I loved the massage oil, but the smell kills this product for me. It’s too distracting. If someone could get past the fragrance than I think it would be at least a 4 star product.

The product claims to last 40 hours.

Packaging

The 4 oz candle comes in a tin with the red and white logo sticker on top and the product information sticker around the sides of the candle. It weighs between .4-.5 lbs. The width of the tin is 2 ¾” and the height is 1 ¾” The length of the wick surprised me; it is about 1 inch long and takes a several seconds for the flame to reach the wax.

Experience

When I opened this product, I was greatly disappointed. The smell was not what I was expecting and I never could get past it. If this had not been an assigned review, I would probably not have used the product. I have had a hard time determining whether I should rate this 2 or 3 stars. The massage oil gave it some redeeming qualities, but the smell prevents it from being more than 2 stars. Personally, I would not purchase this product for myself again.
Follow-up commentary
I never got over the smell of this candle. I eventually gave it to a friend of mine, who didn’t mind the smell.

Oh, what a shame the scent turned out to be so disagreeable. I love candles, especially those with natural scents. But not all natural scents are good ones. Sad face I see there are three scent choices, which one was this?

I love natural candles too! Mine was Caribbean Rose. Origins and Indian Spice are hopefully better. I would love to hear from someone who tried the other 2 candles.
