Cute Tin, Cheap Candle

The Good Clean Love Passion candle is a cheap candle disguised in a cute tin. The smell of the Caribbean Rose scent in the tin is overpowering and just plain terrible, but if you can get past that and use the quick-absorbing oils for a ten minute massage, good for you! For the price, I'd look elsewhere!

Use

The Good Clean Love Passion candle is intended for three different uses: an aromatic candle, a mood setter, and a hot massage oil. This candle is all natural, so it shouldn't irritate anyone's skin unless you have a specific allergy to any of the oils.

The oil heats up to about 101 degrees F, allowing for fun temperature play. If you can get past the awful scent, the massage oil is great for giving or receiving a warm massage. It can also be used alone as a skin moisturizer (I often use oils on my legs after shaving!).

Ingredients: Soybean Oil, Coconut Oil, Hemp Oil, Avocado Oil, Jojoba Oil, Vitamin E, and Exotic Blend of Essential Oils

Like with any candle, you should use caution with open flames and keep away from children. Be sure to lay it on a flat surface when lit.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

Before the candle is lit, the wax is surprisingly hard. It is much thicker and much more candle-like than most of the massage candles I have used in the past. If you run your fingers on the unlit candle you can pick up some of the oils and scent but not enough to really soften the skin.

Once the candle is lit and has created a small pool of wax, the wax can be poured for massage use. There is no pour spout, and the lip on the tin makes pouring more difficult, but if you take care and wipe up excess wax that will likely run down the side of the tin, it's not too bad.

The oils are surprisingly thin considering how hard the wax feels. The oils are silky and soft. The scent in the tin is very strong, but it lessens when rubbed into the skin - which I found to be a good thing. The oils are quickly absorbed and do not last during a longer massage. You will need to reapply if you plan on giving longer than a 10 minute massage (I try to use a quarter-sized amount to stretch it to 15 minutes.)

Once absorbed, your skin will feel smooth and soft, and there is no residue left behind - only a light scent.

Taste / Aroma

I was excited to see what Caribbean Rose smelled like, but once I opened the tiny tin and the aroma wafted into my nose, I blanched. I am not a very picky person, and I love candles, but this one does not smell good at all. I cannot stress enough how unpleasant the scent is. It's very hard to pinpoint the essential oils they used in their "exotic" blend, but whatever they are, they do not mix well. I was not getting a Caribbean or tropical scent, nor the Rose.

Luckily, the scent is much stronger in the tin than while lit. This is the one time I was happy the scent didn't fill up my small room.

This candle is not flavored, however for review purposes, I tasted the wax after it had been applied and it had no flavor. I would not recommend ingesting any of it though!

Performance

Initially, the wick was much longer than necessary. I would recommend trimming it down to 1/4 inch before burning so ashes don't find their way into your massage. However, I didn't trim mine, and it only took a few seconds to burn down to the wax level.

It takes about 3 minutes to form a small pool of wax, but I found that after letting it heat up for 5 minutes, there was enough melted wax for a 10 minute massage. The tin is not designed well for pouring the wax, and it can get messy if you aren't careful. During the small window of time the oil was slick and smooth, but it absorbed much faster than most other massage oils or massage candles.

Because the oil is absorbed so quickly into the skin, I wouldn't see the need to wash off any residue, however since my partner and I didn't care for the smell of it, we quickly washed ourselves off with soap and warm water. The scent rinsed away easily, without scrubbing. If you enjoy the scent, however, it does leave your skin feeling pretty soft.

Packaging

The Passion candle comes in a 4 ounce metal tin with a lid. The lid has a cute label with the name and scent of the candle and their slogan "making love sustainable".

The front of the tin is the same as the lid in smaller print. The left side explains the uses of the candle and claims that the oils heat up to 101 degrees F. The right side shows the ingredients and warnings. It also says "purchase of this product supports peace initiatives around the world" and shows their web address.

This is a tiny candle and would be perfect for traveling with. Mine was shipped in extreme heat and didn't melt one bit like other massage candles have. This candle is fairly discreet. It only mentions it may be used for erotic play in very tiny lettering on the side.

If you're like me and are thinking it'd be cuter on the counter sans the labeling, don't bother. The stickers are on there good and cannot be removed easily!

Experience

This is the worst massage candle I have tried so far, mostly due to the scent. The tin is cute and practical, but the pouring isn't as clean as I would hope for. The oils work just fine, but I prefer a longer-lasting oil. If I weren't so worried that the other scent varieties were as awful as the Caribbean Rose, I might give this candle a second shot.
Follow-up commentary
Unfortunately, the scent never grew on me and it just never quite held up to other massage candles. I will stick to Bwarm!

Thanks for the review, I think I'll stay away from this one. My nose is very picky!

    That's probably a good idea.

How would you compare it to the other one?
  • Contributor: Cori
JR, I have tried a [too] many different massage candles. My favorites are the Bwarm and Afterglow. As compared to both of those, this candle doesn't hold up even half as long during a massage and the oil was not nearly as slick as smooth as those varieties either.

When using just as a candle, I still prefer Afterglow and Bwarm massage candles because their aromas actually fill my bedroom. This candle only could only be detected within a few feet of where it was lit.

Not to mention the scent of this one was not pleasing to me at all! I swear I'm not really that picky about candle scents normally. I loved the Bwarm Patchouli/Rose aroma as well as Afterglow's Pink Lotus scent.

Thanks for reading my review, I hope that answers your question.
