I'm Just Not Cool Enough For You, EOS.

I really like the flavor of this balm, but I find the shape incredibly awkward to use. I'll probably pick up the tube form of EOS's balm, but every time I used this balm I just wanted to whine about how much I hated the shape.

Use

The Organic Lip Balm, by Evolution of Smooth (EOS) is, of course, a soothing, moisturizing protective layer for your lips. This lip balm lip is 95% organic (certified as USDA organic by Oregon Tilth, a nonprofit group that certifies organic farmers, processors, retailers and handlers), 100% natural, and free of parabens and petrolatum. It's not tested on animals, so you shouldn't ever feel guilty, and if you have gluten sensitivities, you're in luck: this stuff is gluten free. Although I'd say this balm is geared towards women, lip balm sees no gender so anyone can use it--though I wouldn't recommend it for people with severely dry of chapped lips.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

The balm is a fairly thin one; I actually found it very difficult to apply for the first few weeks because it was so thin. It rolls on smoothly, but for me it was a bit awkward to apply. After trying a bit unsuccessfully to apply it like I do chapsticks (slightly pucker lips and swipe across) I found that it totally doesn't work: I have to go full on duck lip to get this applied. It isn't a sticky balm, which I do love, but it's so light I have to go across my lips a few times to feel like I'm adequately covered.

Maybe I'm just totally ruined by chapsticks to the point where I need to actually feel the balm on my lips to find it effective, though.

Taste / Aroma

The Summer Fruit balm I have smells like a combination of fruit, with none of them really jumping out at me. The ingredients (listed below) indicate it contains Blueberry, Strawberry and Peach extract, as well as coconut oil, but it tastes and smells like it has hints of mango in it, as well. I kind of like that it doesn't have a super distinctive odor or taste because fruity balms get old fast, but this doesn't get on my nerves because it's more of a blend with subtle layers.

The odor is faint, and dissipates after a while, but the lip balm continues tasting faintly fruity until it's worn all the way off.

Performance

The balm did last a respectable amount of time; even though I find it very thin, once I've got it on, it lasts for a while. If I wanted it off my lips, it smudged off with a tissue, and its sheer nature means I can apply it over a lipstick that tastes kinda gross. It also leaves minimal resiude if you're drinking or eating anything; it doesn't affix to your glass or fork, which a lot of other balms do.

Packaging

I was intrigued by the packaging/applicator, but I guess I'm not cool enough to really GET it. It comes in a spherical container with a thumb hold; it easily twists apart to reveal the balm inside. The container is awkward; I can't fit it in my pocket because it's too big, and it gets lost in my bag because it doesn't really fit any of the pockets the way a tubular chapstick does.
