I'm not hooked yet...

Bacio Me is decadent and well made. It makes a nice treat for you or a friend as long as you don't mind spending a little more than necessary on a less than fantastic product. Bacio Me does what it says it will do, but it doesn't do it with panache. All in all the lip balm is good, it just seems to be a little less wonderful than I expected. Bottom line is, if Principessa Beauty added a flavor to it, I would be more likely to buy it again.

Use

Let me begin this review with an introduction. Hello, my (screen)name is wide awake daydream, and I am a lip gloss/chap stick/lip balm /lipstick addict. I am crazy for all products that claim to make my lips less dry, more kissable, taste better, look wet, plump up, have more color, or feel smooth. When I saw the Bacio Me lip balm here on Eden Fantasys, I could not resist the temptation to try it out. I envisioned absolute lip-bliss when I saw this, and for the most part, I got it. If you have lips that need (nourishing)attention then this stuff can be as good as gold for you. If you are looking for a neutral lip balm, or something that doesn't look shiny, then you may not like this because when you put it on it becomes obvious that you are wearing a lip product. I think if you don't mind looking like you have a lip gloss or lip balm on your lips, then you could wear Bacio Me everyday for smoother, more nourished lips.

Here are the ingredients for Bacio Me (along with some of the information I found about them):

*Polyisobutene* (also known as butyl rubber, is used to form an airtight barrier, has detergent, skin conditioning, thickening, lubricating, viscocity increasing and film-forming properties)

*Oetyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate* (made from a naturally occurring fatty acid that functions as a skin conditioning agent, and in some studies has shown the ability to mildly irritate some people's skin)

*Beeswax (Cera Alba)* (a naturally occurring emollient that deeply nourishes skin)

*Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil* (the liquid wax produced in the seed of the jojoba plant, is used as a replacement for whale oil and its derivatives to nourish skin)

*Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax (Cera Carnauba)* (obtained from the leaves of the Brazilian tropical palm tree, used to keep two liquids that don't normally mix bonded together)

*Ozokerite* (mineral wax, derived from coal and shale, used to thicken the oil components of the mixture and keep them from separating)

*Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter)* (a botanical ingredient derived from the seeds of the African Shea Tree, acts as a skin conditioning agent and thickness increasing agent, can also be used to reduce the appearance of dry rough patches)

*Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil* (a vegetable oil obtained from the seeds of the castor plant, used as a skin conditioning agent)

*Tocopheryl Acetate* (a more stable version of vitamin E that is typically used in cosmetic formulation, also, vitamin E acetate is usually the source of vitamin E in dietary supplements, used to help condition skin)

*Phenoxyethanol* (a preservative used in cosmetics and personal care and fragrance products, also used instead of parabens in most cosmetics, NOTE: several of the articles I read about phenoxyethanol suggested that animal studies showed it was toxic with effects on the animal's brain and nervous system)

*Flavor (Aroma)* (I have read articles online that suggest that there are over 3,000 ingredients that can be listed under the label of 'fragrance' so there is no way of knowing which one of them Principessa Beauty used)

*Red 7 Lake (CI 15850:1)* (a synthetic red colorant)

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

Bacio Me is almost the same consistency as a tube of chap stick, maybe slightly more pliable. The texture is a little firmer than petroleum jelly, depending on the temperature. If it is warm where you live, Bacio Me may be more on the runny side. It still won't pour or move around in the tin (unless the temperature is very warm), but it will be much easier to spread when it is warm than at lower temperatures. I wouldn't leave Bacio Me in the sun or in a hot, parked car for long periods of time and then try to use it, you will end up with Bacio soup. If this happens to you, bring the temperature back down by putting it in a refrigerator or leaving it in a air conditioned room for a while and it will return to it usual consistency.

Bacio Me goes on your lips thick and smooth, with a little bit of a greasy/sticky feel. The greasy feeling quickly goes away (in less than 5 minutes)and leaves your lips feeling really smooth and looking shiny.

Taste / Aroma

Bacio Me has a very light, pleasant smell. In my opinion it smells like they mixed a small amount of Vaseline with some Carmex and touch of vanilla. I barely noticed the scent when I put my nose to the tin, but it became stronger when I put the balm on my lips. Even with a copious amount on my lips the scent remained light, so light that someone else would have to be very close to your lips to smell it, even then it would be unlikely that they would notice anything at all. After the balm had time to soak in, maybe five minutes, the smell was completely gone. Bacio Me had no taste at all that I was able to tell. If anything, it faintly tasted like when my mom would coat my chapped lips with Vaseline when I was a child.

    • Smells good

Performance

After you apply Bacio Me, your lips will feel slick and even a little greasy. Something that I liked about Bacio Me was that my lips did not feel sticky or coated after I applied it and then wore it for a few minutes. The soft, shiny, moisturized, soothing effects of Bacio Me lasted a few hours, even without reapplying. Some of the products I have tried leave a coating that dries and then peels off, but I found that this was not the case with Bacio Me. No matter how much I rubbed my lips together after it dried, there were no flakes of left over dried gunk that has resulted from some products I've used.

After using Bacio Me consistently for a few days, I could tell that my lips were softer and smoother. I used it on the chapped skin under my daughter's nose (she had a small cold) and it helped that skin feel and look less irritated, even though it made her nose look really shiny. Bacio Me absorbs like a dream come true. After it has time to soak in, all that is left behind are smooth, soft lips. If for some reason you want to wipe Bacio Me off before it has fully absorbed, you can just use a paper napkin or dry cloth rag. Even if you wipe it off instead of letting it absorb completely, you will end up with softer lips for a short time. The only thing that bugs me a little about Bacio Me is that there isn't any flavor at all. Some might find this appealing, but I prefer some type of flavor.
    • Absorbs into skin nicely
    • Long lasting

Packaging

I think the tin that Bacio Me comes in is very pretty, and manages to be elegant with out looking overly foo-foo and girly. It is black and pale pink with Principessa Beauty across the top. The lid fits well and the tin is very sturdy. The tin comes with no outer packaging, which makes me a little nervous. There is no way of knowing who's had the container open or what was done to it before you got it, there wasn't even a band of safety plastic.

Instructions were not included (But honestly, who doesn't know how to use lip balm?) and the bottom of the tin has a list of ingredients along with a short little passage that reads "kiss me. This pout-perfecting indulgence leaves your lips indescribably silky and kissably soft."

The tin that Bacio Me comes in has worked fine thrown into the bottom of my purse, so it should be suitable for travel just about anywhere, although I have not tried to pass it through any airport security, so you may want to check before you try to fly with it.

I'm a do-it-yourself type of person. That being said, I plan to keep the container that Bacio Me came in to try out a few homemade lip balm recipes in. It is very durable while still remaining elegant and leak free. The style and coloring of the little round tin (it measures 1 5/8 of an inch) would make it suitable to carry just about anywhere (pocket or purse).
    • Discreet looking packaging
    • Does not leak
    • Minimal

Personal comments

I think Bacio Me is a pretty good lip balm. It isn't the best one I've ever used, but I do like it a lot. The price of this stuff seems to be kind of over the top, in my opinion. If I'm going to spend that much on a half ounce of lip balm, I prefer all natural ingredients and some kind of pleasant taste.

My husband actually (on his own!) remarked that my lips felt soft and sexy. It was such a sincere compliment that I had to catch my giggle before anyone heard it. He is not one to notice that sort of thing, so the fact that he blurted it out right after we kissed left me a little dumbfounded. Hmm, maybe it effects aren't all in my head after all.

Experience

I enjoy thick and smooth lip balm, and Bacio Me delivers just that. My husband, however, was less than impressed by this stuff when he wore it. He said his lips felt too greasy and he didn't like that there was no taste. I like the fact that it absorbs nicely and doesn't leave a gunky build up that I have to chew off of my lips after it dries in.
Follow-up commentary
I'm glad I stocked up on this when I did. I still like using Bacio me lip balm. I stick with the statement that it could use a little flavor, but that doesn't mean it isn't worth the purchase. My lips stay moisturized, shiny and soft with this lip balm and I've gotten a couple of comments on how cool the tin it is in looks.
