Sweet as candy

This sugar scrub would be a perfect choice for someone with dry skin who enjoys sweet, girly scents. For those looking for more thorough exfoliation and more adult fragrances, look elsewhere.

Use

This is a thick, gritty sugar-scrub with a silky-smooth oil base. I've used it for a month now, and in that time I've come to a few conclusions.

If you have oily skin, this is not the sugar scrub for you. The oil is sleek and moisturizing and very persistent; even when used in the shower and rinsed off pretty thoroughly, I still come out with the feel of the oil on my skin. This isn't a negative for me, but for someone who has naturally greasy skin, this will just exacerbate the problem.

If you're looking for an intense scrub for problem areas such as rough heels, this also isn't the scrub for you. It's fantastic for smoother areas such as shaved legs and torso, but it doesn't have the strength necessary to smooth truly rough skin.

Where it excels is as a general-use moisturizing scrub.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

This is an extremely thick scrub. The sugar crystals are large and gritty, and it reminds me of nothing so much as rock candy hit with a hammer just enough to break it up.

The oil is somewhat thin, but it's very persistent. It clings to the sugar, making it look like a handful of wet sand. When applied the oil lingers after the scrub is washed away, and it's very moisturizing- more so than I expected, really. I think this can likely be attributed to the coconut oil and cocoa seed butter that the scrub contain.

In use, the scrub tends to melt away if there's too much water. I found it was best to use it on slightly damp skin and then wash it off afterward. Using it directly in the shower meant that the scrub was gone before it could really do any good.

Taste / Aroma

Scent is something of an issue for me. I'm allergic to approximately everything, and my inhaler is my BFF.

Fortunately, this sugar scrub didn't kick up my allergy issues.

The scrub smells like nothing so much as raspberry shortcake. It's an extremely sweet scent, and there's something distinctly feminine about it. It's a smell that I'd expect in a bottle of princess perfume marketed toward a young girl.

I do enjoy the scent, but it is very persistent. You will smell like this scrub after using it, and you'll smell like it for the rest of the day. If sugar-sweet raspberry sounds like something that would incorporate well into your scent signature, grab this. If you're prone to darker scents, I recommend thinking carefully about how this will mingle with other products you use.

As far as taste, it's not really intended for tasting, but I licked it for the purpose of this review as I apparently use my tongue for science. Verdict? Tastes like sugar.

Performance

As a scrub, I have mixed feelings on this product. It doesn't have the exfoliating prowess that I'd like from a scrub as thick as this, but for general use (especially on freshly-shaved skin) it does an amazing job. The natural oils make it hydrating, and I think this would be fantastic for someone with dry skin.

One thing that has impressed me is exactly how long-lasting this scrub is. It's undeniably a bit expensive, but after a month of steady use, I've barely used a fifth of the jar.

What I like most about this is the scent. It's strong but gentle, and the sweetness of it makes me think of a bakery or pink flowers in spring.
    • Absorbs into skin nicely
    • Feels natural

Packaging

Be careful of the jar with this one. If it gets tipped over onto its side, the oil can leak out from under the cap.
    • Leaky container
    • Would make a nice gift

Personal comments

Overall, I see myself buying this one again.
