Lycra tube dress - mini dress discontinued by Coquette - review by Lily Night

The Lycra Tube Dress by Coquette is a dress that can be worn in public and in the bedroom to add a touch class. It is a cocktail dress that while short, can easily cover your backside making it perfectly acceptable for being worn out and about.

Starting from the top this dress has removable straps that attach with little plastic hooks into loops sewn into the dress and adjust like bra straps. At 3/8 inch wide the straps are skinny and dainty looking, but can still provide plenty of support if needed. The dress has three pink stripes going down the bust, one over each breast one one in the cleavage region. Inside these stripes is boning (I think its plastic, but I'm honestly not sure)that helps to add shape to the chest. Just below the bust is a 1.5 inch wide ribbon that only goes around the front. Oddly enough it is only sewn on the top half and sides leaving the underside of the ribbon unsewn. Usually this is where a removable bow would be likely to be attached, but sadly ours didn't come with the bow, which is a shame because if nothing else it would have been a nice hair accessory. In the back of the dress are three small tags, a black one embroidered with the coquette name, a tiny tag with the size, and a larger white tag giving material info, washing information and saying that it was made in China.

Our dress came inside the box without the usual pink tissue paper with a larger tag and a baggie with the straps inside safety pinned to the dress. The extremely stretchy fabric means this dress will hug your curves and show off your figure. This also means however, that anything worn under the dress will show up, such as panty and bra lines, and that the dress has no chance of hiding imperfections. The fabric is made of 80% nylon and 20% spandex. The material has a silky feel against the skin, that is equally soft both on the inside and outside. The material is a little see through when stretched, but this effect can only be noticed when back lit by the sun. One plus is that because of this miraculous fabric the tube dress can be wadded up, or folded, or stuffed into a suitcase or overnight bag and still come completely wrinkle free making this a great dress for a quick getaway somewhere. The fabric is nice and thick with a quality feel to it, and the stitching is neat everywhere. The only visible defect is a small poof of fabric at the end of one of the straps. The tag says to hand wash and hang to dry, and its probably a good idea to not go against the tag's advice.

Now I'll finally get around to sizing. The dress we got was a large while Eden carries the small, medium, large, and extra large. Unstretched the dress is 26 inches long from the top of the cups to the bottom hem (not counting the straps), 14 inches wide at the ribbon around the waist and 17 inches wide at the bottom hem.

On my girlfriend, who is 5 foot 4 inches the large fell a few inches below her butt making this dress perfectly acceptable to wear out of the house without showing more then unnecessary, but it was slinky enough where it may not be the best for conservative family gatherings. Her measurements are

Hips 36 inches
The Lycra Tube Dress fit her well, and since she is smaller than the measurements in the size chart, if you have any doubts order a larger size. On the plus side, if it does end up being a bit small the material does have a good amount of stretch.
Overall, this dress has some flaws, but is very well made and hopefully can be a nice addition to any wardrobe for a long time.
