Slinky tube dress with open side - mini dress discontinued by Leg Avenue - review by Shellz31

FIRST IMPRESSIONS:

This one was an impulse buy for me. The moment I saw the side panels, I had to have it. I pushed aside the fact that my breasts aren't anywhere near firm enough to hold themselves up to pull this dress off fully. I waited so long for it to finally be back in stock.


MATERIAL:

The Slinky Tube Dress is crafted by Leg Avenue and made in Taiwan. Unfortunately, it only comes in a solid black and one size. It's made from 80% nylon and 20% spandex which makes it ultra stretchy in every way possible. The dress is very simple with two panels that are held together by ten black 2 ¾” lengths of elastic down each side. It also features elastic in the top and bottom hem casings. All edges are neatly serged, so there's no risk of the dress fraying around you. When holding a single layer of the fabric up to the light, it can be seen through. Unless you really stretched it to the max, no one is going to see anything underneath that they shouldn't. The material is sleek, so it has the potential to ride up your legs. My butt curve tends to hold it there, but by that stage it's already exposing cheek.


FIT:

This one is classed as “One Size Fits Most” and normally that means it wouldn't fit my size of XL. This one goes to the extreme and I'd say fits the larger sizes better than those carrying a smaller frame – unless you don't want it to be a neat hugging fit. I can easily fit this with plenty of room to spare. Not only does the material stretch in every direction, but then you have the elastic strips down the side that allows even more give. If you're a plus size, it is going to hug every bump. Unfortunately there isn't any chest support, but I don't see too much of a problem wearing a strapless bra as long as it is black. If you do find that too noticeable, you can buy totally invisible silicone bras.

All measurements below are gained by measuring across a flat garment.

CHEST:
Unstretched: 13 ¼”
Stretched: 24”

WAIST:
Unstretched: 14 ¼”
Stretched: 34”

HIPS:
Unstretched: 17”
Stretched: 36”

LENGTH:
From the top to the hem unstretched = 24 ½”.


CLEANING ~ PACKAGING:

The instructions tag says to hand wash in warm water and to drip dry. My first wash was done by hand, rung out as much as possible and then allowed to dry on the clothes line. I personally don't see why this couldn't be washed in a machine on a delicate cycle. Although, it would be better going through a front loader, as the elastic sides could catch around the centre fins in a top loading machine.

My dress arrived in a cardboard box with a model wearing the dress. The front is done in a black diamond background with the sides and back in two tone pink stripes. The bottom opens to expose your new dress. It could be kept for storage if you so desire.

EXPERIENCE:

It's been a little while since I bought this, but it's not something I really wear, as I feel I'm too large to get away with this clinging style. It's fine in the privacy of my own room, but not to wear in public. It is very comfortable, although I prefer something more supportive in the chest department. I believe that when I lose weight and wish to wear this one, I'll need to take the elastic pieces in slightly so I still achieve the hugging feature of the dress.
If I had my time again I probably wouldn't buy this – only because it really isn't suitable to my body type. But my impulsiveness often overrides the practicality of an item. Especially something sexy looking like this dress.

I'm giving Slinky 4 stars.

At first I was taken with the side straps; it's always been a weakness of mine. But because of my body shape, this style really doesn't do me any favours. Also with being larger chested, it's not really suitable for those of us who require some support. You can wear a strapless bra, but that tends to take away the sexiness of the dress.

Can't see me ever wearing it again - even when I have slimmed down.
