Opaque thigh highs - thigh highs discontinued by Leg Avenue - review by Sundae

Initially, I thought it was somewhat unnecessary to write a review here on EF for a pair of stockings, an item most ladies (and some men!) would be fairly familiar with. However, being a stocking lover myself, I finally decided that there must be others out there who'd like to know a little more about this particular type of Leg Avenue stockings and what they had to offer. I literally have drawers full of stockings and tights of all different types, including some others from Leg Avenue. I wasn't overly impressed with the ones I had purchased earlier and felt they were rather cheap quality, which came with the cheap price tag that many of the company's items sported. This made me a little hesitant to buy another pair of stockings from them, especially ones as inexpensive as these, but they perfectly matched my Frisky Flight Attendant costume and were a pretty baby blue color I didn't yet own.

Thankfully, I found them to be much better quality than I expected from my previous experiences! The material is nice and sturdy and relatively thick (though of course no-where near as thick as proper woolen stockings would be), which makes them a beautiful opaque baby blue when worn, rather than the cheap sort of see-through wash of color you sometimes get. In terms of construction they're a little on the cheap side as they lack a proper reinforced toe section, which means extended wearing is likely to result in toes managing to poke holes in the ends of the stockings. However, for me they're a special occasion item and thus this isn't as much of a problem.

The stockings are made from a spandex/nylon combination, so they're a little stretchy, like most modern stockings. They measure around 24" unstretched and fit me pretty much perfectly length-wise. However, I'm rather short, so those of you that are lofty, leggy beauties might find they are more like knee highs. These stockings are designed to be stay-ups and as such have a thick elastic section around the top. They do hold up relatively well on their own, even with my twiggy legs, but women with a curvier figure might have more luck here. They have a fair bit of stretch in them, but some plus sized ladies may find them a little tight around the thigh area because of stay-up design. Personally, I wear them with a garter belt anyway, so their staying power isn't much of a problem.

Care for them is pretty simple. I just pop mine in a delicate machine wash and they come out fine, but if you want to be extra careful, handwashing would also be appropriate. I actually don't know if these are dryer-safe because I got rid of the packaging before checking it out (I don't own a dryer!), but I would generally recommend hanging everything delicate out on the washing line anyway.

I actually think these stockings are a really nice addition to outfits in and out of the bedroom. Perhaps the baby blue color isn't what everyone is looking for, but there are plenty of other options to satisfy everyone. They're not high-quality luxury stockings that you put on and feel like you've treated yourself to something amazing and sensuous, but for the price they're a solid and fun investment, especially to match a costume or pop onto a garter belt every now and then!
