Decent Vroom for your Money

If you're looking for something easy to use for getting things started, this compact vibe is a great option. For those who are looking for deep, rumbly vibrations, pocket rockets probably are not the solution.

Use

Pocket rockets are nifty, small, discreet toys made for clitoral stimulation. Their compact size and non-phallic appearance make them travel friendly and unassuming to most individuals. Without previous knowledge of the toy, random viewers may think it's an LED flashlight or other tool. The size and shape allows easy storage in purses, pockets (who knew?), or really just about anywhere.

Don't let the small size fool you, these vibes are capable of turning a AA battery into a focused vibration that packs a decent punch. The design funnels the force into a plastic cap with small nubs, giving a 1" diameter of usable area. Besides clitoral use, the vibrations are mild enough for teasing other parts of the body such as nipples or balls. This toy should not be used internally, as its length is so short and there is no retrieval mechanism if it decides to go wandering. Thanks to its plastic construction, you can use any type of lube you want with this little vibe.

Material / Texture

Made from two different types of food-grade plastics, the velvet pocket rocket is a fairly rigid vibe. The majority of the body of the toy has, as the name implies, a velvety texture. It's very comfortable to the touch and doesn't hold any kind of temperature. There is only a faint plastic smell, detectable only when the toy is held directly under your nose. The bottom battery compartment has a series of grooves around the base.

The top usable zone of the toy is a clear plastic with a more rigid feel than the velvety base. A series of 1/8" nubs extend from the top of the cap. These raised pegs have no give, but have a very smooth bevel making them decently comfortable.

The toy has two shallow seams. The first is the separation between the battery cap and the vibrator body. The second is a small lip where the plastic cap attaches atop the vibrator body. As the toy isn't for internal use, these small groves shouldn't pose any kind of issue.

Design / Shape / Size

As previously mentioned, this toy is small, measuring in at only about 4" tall and 1" in diameter. It's basically the motorcycle of vibrators: a power source and an engine with no extra frills or parts. Other than the Doc Johnson label printed on the front of the toy, there isn't anything pointing to this actually being a vibe at all. This specific model could easily be mistaken for and LED flashlight. Even after turning it on, most (not all!) males would probably still be confused at what exactly it is.

As you can see above, the toy splits into two pieces to reveal the battery compartment. It appears that there is a ring for waterproofing around the top of this split, however there is no direct statement that the toy is safe for the tub. Testing of this theory will be described in the follow up review when I build up the nerve to soak it overnight.

The top plastic cap is actually removable, which reveals the small metallic nubs underneath. Presumably this is for using different attachment caps if you have any. You could use the toy uncapped, however the metal nubs will be more difficult to clean due to the lipped edges around them. Honestly, the vibrations are better focused by the plastic nubs anyway.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The controls of this specific pocket rocket are rather simple: on or off. The vibrations are mild, but focused. They're about 70% buzzy and 30% rumbly. In most cases, this power level will be great for teasing and only effective for finishing for women that prefer their vibes on the lighter side. Although labeled as multi-speed, there isn't much of a gradient between fully on or off.

Thanks to its mild vibrations however, this little vibe performed great for teasing nipples, balls, and all sorts of places without discomfort. Playing with these other areas is the one time you might consider using the vibe without the plastic cap on.

The sound level of this vibrator is also fairly mild. While I wouldn't recommend using it in a library or movie theater, it would be virtually undetectable in a restaurant or bar.

Care and Maintenance

The plastic construction makes cleaning this pocket rocket easy. Soap and water are your best bet. Cleaning the pegs of the cap can be a little challenging; removing the cap and running it under the faucet is probably the best solution for this. If you need to, the body can be wiped down as well. The toy is rather solid, so it can be stored in just about any place where you won't step on it.
    • Easy to store

Packaging

The packaging was almost non-existent. This toy came in a clear plastic bag, mixed in a shipping box with other toys. There was no damage to the product, so this wasn't bothersome to me.

Experience

Doc Johnson's pocket rocket has found its way into our foreplay more than once. Its simplicity and easy use give it more of a 'why not' reasoning. Although the vibrations aren't enough to get the job done, they're definitely enough to get things started.

I DO NOT recommend this to average users, but I'll be trying this toy out with an over-volted AA battery before my follow up review and will report any power increases there.
