Velvet Pocket Rocket, You Let Me Down!

Over the years, I've own many toys, but I've never owned a "pocket rocket". When I saw that this was available as a free gift with purchases over $70, I knew that it was finally my chance to find out what all the fuss was about. Sadly, however, this pocket rocket left me saying, "that's it?", and wanting more. That being said, this pocket rocket would be a decent choice for those of you that don't need a lot of power to get off.

Use

The velvet pocket rocket by Doc Johnson seems to be primarily geared towards those new to toys, though advanced users who don't need a strong vibrations may also enjoy this.

The pocket rocket is intended to be used for clitoral stimulation. The small size makes it easy to hold on ones clitoris, and the little nubs do a great job of stimulating the clit in a non-irritating way.

If you're seeking a toy that you can use for internal vibration stimulation, I would advise you to look elsewhere. This toy just isn't built for that kind of stimulation. As for anal stimulation? Don't even think about trying to insert this into your bum! It'd be way too easy for this toy to get lost up there! All of that being said, there's no reason why you can't use this to stimulate the outside of your anus, or the outsides of your vagina.

You can also use this toy to stimulate other areas of your body, like your neck, nipples, back, thighs... basically anywhere!

Now the question is, to use with a partner, or not? The truth is, you can use it in either situation! The size makes it unlikely to get in the way during sexual intercourse, but it can be just as fun on its own, too.

Material / Texture

This pocket rocket is made out of food-grade plastic, which rates as an 8 on Eden's safety scale. Plastic is very safe due to the fact that it is hypoallergenic, non-porous, and both latex and phthalates free.

Plastic is a very firm material, so there is no give to this toy at all. It won't bend, and if you squeeze it, nothing will happen. I personally prefer toys that have a little give to them, so this toy wasn't very impressive to me, in that respect.

The top part of the vibrator features a little plastic cap, which is intended to be used on your clitoris. The plastic cap features many plastic nubs which are meant to stimulate your nipples. I thought that these nubs would hurt during use, but they didn't. They didn't add much to my experience, though.

If you remove the little plastic top, you'll see that there are three metal bumps. These bumps can also be used to stimulate your clitoris. Again, these bumps didn't hurt, but they didn't do much for me, either.

The lower half of the vibrator features some ridges, which make it easy to get a good grip on the toy. The ridges are not meant to be used on your clitoris; instead, they're pretty much there to help you hold the toy, and to help you open the battery compartment.

I did not notice any scent, or taste, to this toy.

Design / Shape / Size

This design is very cute, but it doesn't do a lot for me. Firstly, it's quite small, measuring about 4" in length, and 1" in diameter. The small size makes it easy to hold, and easy to hide, but it really limits how this toy can be used.

The little nubs on the top do provide some stimulation, but the vibrations were just too weak for me to enjoy it. I did, however, enjoy the fact that the cap is removable, so you have two options on how to use this toy.

Some people may think that this toy is discreet enough to leave out in public, as it does sort of look like a small flashlight, but... Me? I don't think that it is, because as soon as someone picks it up, they're going to see that it's not a flashlight, and really, there's nothing else it could be than a vibrator. The small size does make it easy to hide, and suitable for travel, though.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The pocket rocket only requires one AA battery to run. As you may imagine, this means that the toy just doesn't have a lot of power.

To insert the battery, you simply unscrew the lower half the toy, put the battery in, and then screw the battery cap back on. This sounds easy enough, but I find that the battery compartment tends to stick a lot.

The words "Open", "Off" and "On" are written on the toy. To switch to any of those settings, you simply twist the battery cap. There is a little arrow made out of ridges that points to whatever settings you have it on. The settings are easy enough to control, but they're very close together. The fact that they're very close together means that it can sometimes be difficult to get just the right setting.

This toy is listed as being a multi-speed vibrator, but that's not accurate, in my opinion. This toy feels like it's all one setting, and sadly that one setting is VERY weak.

In general, I'd rate this as a two, both on vrooms and bees.

As for being waterproof? This toy is not waterproof.

Care and Maintenance

Cleaning this toy is a breeze, though you do have to be careful as it's not waterproof. Just make sure you don't get water near the battery compartment, and you should be okay. I personally clean this with a toy cleaner wipe, but you can also use any toy cleaner spray, or warm water and antibacterial soap.

This toy is great as far as lubricant goes. This is because you can basically use any kind of lube that you want, be it water-based, silicone, or even oil-based.

For storage, I simply store this toy in a ziplock bag in my toybox. There's really no need for the ziplock bag, as this material won't interact badly with other materials -- I just prefer to keep my toys from touching one another.
Follow-up commentary
I just don't like this thing. It's uncomfortable against my clitoris, and it's not powerful enough for me. I've tried it several times, and I just can't find a way to get any pleasure from it.

A shame about the power. I wonder if it's less powerful than the version I have -- maybe I should add one to my order and find out. Thanks for the review.

Thank you for the review, and great job on being objective even though it was a poor product. I'm definitely not regretting skipping this with my last purchase.

Thanks for the review - I need more powerful vibrations as well, so this probably won't work for me!

I got this in my order that came in yesterday, but haven't used it yet. Sounds like it's not going to be for me. Thanks for sharing.

aww sorry you had a bad experience with the pocket rocket but having tried all kinds of them I can tell you that waterproof means shower not underwater, they should be more clear on their packaging, and the most powerful ones are the original ones not the waterproof ones, plus they just have 1 speed and are stimulation like you said not insertion hopefully this helps

I was disappointed with mine, too. For some reason, I was expecting it to be larger; when it arrived, I actually started laughing out loud. I know the name implies small, but THAT small?? At least it was free
