Remove Rocket, Add Teaser

Velvet Pocket Rocket is a great beginners toy and makes a fine teasing toy for couples. However, the lack of power behind the vibrations, the uncomfortable textured cap, and the overall quality of the toy leave me unable to recommend this product. There are much better compact, travel friendly options available here, at EdenFantasys.

Use

Velvet Pocket Rocket from Doc Johnson is an external vibrator that works best for users who are more sensitive to vibrations.

This vibrator is a great teaser toy when it comes to stimulation. If you need something to help you warm up to a more powerful toy, this is a great option to look into. The power isn't strong enough to produce the 'Big O' for most, but will help ease into something that will. While it's great for clitoral stimulation, nipple stimulation, and other erogenous area of the female body, it also works fine for use on the penis, testicles, perineum, and for external anal play.

The compact size makes it a non-intimidating option if you're new to toys or are introducing them to your partner for the first time. Because it's so easy to use, there's no need to feel funny about using on your own, or handing the toy over to your partner and having them use it on you. And since there are two different texture options for this toy, there should be a little something for most.

The short length makes it useless for vaginal insertion and the lack of flared base prevents it from being anal safe. Without the base, the toy could easily slip inside of you, causing a trip to the emergency room to have it removed.

Thanks to an o-ring that surrounds the battery compartment, this toy can be taken with you into the tub or shower without worry, and also takes the worry out of holding the toy under the faucet while you're washing it.

Material / Texture

This pocket rocket is made from plastic which rates an 8/10 on the Eden Material Safety Scale. It's made from food-grade material, is hypo-allergenic, latex free, non-porous, and phthalates free. Aside from the plastic, there are a couple small areas that are made from some type of metal. It doesn't state what type it is, so if you have extreme sensitivities to metals, be sure to keep the plastic cap over them (see below for more information).

Since this toy is plastic, it's very rigid. There is no give or bend to any part of it. The only area that has any type of movement to it is the battery cap. It twists on and off to remove the batteries and to turn the toy on/off. There is also no drag to the material in general. The only area that might cause drag is the cap, and it only happens when you're pressing down hard.

The actual vibrator itself has three small, slightly raised, circular bumps on the top. This makes up one of the metal areas. These metal bumps provide a small amount of stimulation, but mostly glide smoothly over the body. Since they don't stick out very far, these are suitable for even those that don't care for texture.

The upper part of the rocket is smooth, but on the bottom area (the battery cap), there are vertical lines. These lines help you keep hold of the toy, even when there is lube on your hands. While it's great for preventing the toy from slipping from your grasp, you also want to make sure you clean this area well since lube and other fluids could get trapped in the crevasses.

Included with this rocket is one textured cap. This cap fits nicely over the tip of the vibrator; not so tight it's hard to remove, but not so loose that it falls off on its own. This cap is made entirely out of plastic and features twelve nubs; nine around the circular edge, and three in the center of the cap. These nubs are very hard, but are rounded to help make them more comfortable during use. This added texture might be too much for some users and because there's no give to them, might be too uncomfortable for some people to use as well.

The texture on the actual vibrator would be suitable for just about anyone since it's so light, but the cap is only suitable for texture lovers and might be a little intimidating for beginners. It does add stimulation, but isn't always comfortable during use.

There was only a new plastic smell when I received the toy, but it faded quickly.

Design / Shape / Size

The non-intimidating look of this toy is great! It's not overwhelming in any sense since it's very easy to use and is a reasonable size. With a full length of 4" and a diameter of 1", this vibe makes this a great travel companion and a great starter toy! The coloring of this toy is geared toward someone more feminine, but isn't so girly that someone more masculine wouldn't want to use it.

The top part of the vibe is the largest area but is slightly smaller a little before the battery cap, and the battery cap itself is just a tiny bit smaller than that. There are two areas of the toy that have markings on it; the company name and logo on the upper area of the vibe, and the words Open, Off, and On just above the cap. It doesn't instantly give the toy away, but makes it a little less discreet.

The fact that this toy comes with an additional cap is great! It gives users the chance to experience two different textures without having to use two different vibrators. It fits securely and is simple to place the cap in place and to remove it. The piece itself is totally clear and you can see the metal bumps through it when attached to the vibe.

The Velvet Pocket Rocket lives up to its name in one small way; it is the right size to easily fit inside your pocket since it's so compact. This vibe makes use on the go very simple. It fits well inside a purse, backpack, briefcase, etc. without taking up too much space. On top of that, the look is quite discreet as well. At a quick glance it would look like a small flashlight, beauty product, or small bottle inside of your purse, though picking it up to check it out is a different story.

Functions / Performance / Controls

This vibrator is powered by one AA battery. Turn the cap so that it opens, line it back up, and twist to close. There is a metal piece that needs to be lined up just right in order for the cap to close properly. This can be a little frustrating since it takes a little more effort to put the cap back on. While the cap is open, you'll notice the o-ring around the base of the battery cap. As long as the cap is closed securely and the ring is in place, there's no worry about water leaking into the compartment.

This vibrator has two settings on it; Off and On. To turn the toy on, you turn the battery cap so that the long vertical lines are centered underneath the word 'On'. The power behind the vibrations are quite weak and buzzy and will only satisfy the most sensitive toy users. As stated before, this is much more of a teasing toy rather than a pleasing toy. There is only one level of intensity and no patterns with this toy. Most of the vibrations are felt through the upper portion of the toy, but can be felt through the base of the toy and cause your fingers to go a little numb during extended use.

When it's time to turn the toy off, you turn the base so that the lines are in the off setting, simple as that. Just be careful that you don't turn it too far or the cap will open and your battery will fall out.

The vibrations are light, but putting the textured cap on the top doesn't change the power behind them. They transfer through the cap and are the same intensity level with it or without it. Since the vibrations are so light, so is the sound level. There's no way someone would be able to hear you through a closed door, and if you had some form of white noise in your room, probably wouldn't be able to hear it through the covers. When the room is silent, the covers don't block out all the sound, but it's suitable for someone who has a roommate or is living in a dorm.

Care and Maintenance

This plastic toy can be cleaned using antibacterial soap and warm water, your favorite sex toy cleaner, or can be wiped down with isopropyl alcohol, or a 10% bleach solution. If you're sharing, make sure to use either the alcohol or the bleach to disinfect the vibrator. Special care needs to be used with the bumps on the top of the toy, the lines in the battery cap, and the textured cap that goes over the top. Using a tooth brush is a great idea since it will help get into all of those small areas and in between each of the nubs.

Plastic is compatible with silicone-, water-, and oil-based lubricants.

There are no material compatibility concerns with this toy, so storing with another toy shouldn't be a concern. It would be easy to toss this in a drawer, your toy box, or you could even just keep it in your purse. Always make sure to remove the battery before storing the toy to prevent it from accidentally turning on.

Packaging

This toy was packaged in the most basic way possible; a clear, plastic bag. This bag can be torn open and recycled. There's no sense in keeping it since it doesn't double as storage and includes no information. No additional information is included inside the bag either. Since the toy is obviously visible through the bag, it's not at all discreet. Keep that in mind if you're planning to gift this to someone.

Experience

I am a power queen, but it had been years since I used a pocket rocket and thought that I should give it a shot. As soon as I opened the battery cap, I was annoyed by how careful I had to be about closing it again. Oh well, I got over that. I finally got the cap back in place, and turned the toy on. Instantly I was disappointed! I could feel that the vibrations weren't going to be strong enough for me. I gave it a try anyway. Without the cap, it felt okay. Wasn't powerful enough to get me going, but it was alright. With the cap on, OUCH! The little nubs felt like they were scratching my nipples and clitoris! It was a horrible feeling!

This is a great teaser toy, but not one I'll be using again. I didn't think it would be powerful enough and my thoughts were confirmed.
Follow-up commentary
No matter how I tried to use this pocket rocket, I was not satisfied! It's currently sitting in the back of my dresser until I'm able to give it to a friend of mine. Fine for teasing, but not at all good for pleasing.

I wonder how this compares to the original pocket rocket by Doc Johnson or if they're exactly the same? I LOVE my pocket rocket and it's up until recently the only toy that does the trick for me. Maybe I am not quite the power queen I thought I was! Thanks for the review

I have a pocket rocket from the iKit. I like the attachments that came with it. Using it with just the one did nothing for me either. Great review, thanks for sharing!

Thanks for all the comments! This was only the second pocket rocket that I've tried and so far they all seem really weak.
