Have you/would you have labiaplasty?

I think I look fine, and my partner hasn't had enough experience to think I look any different than anyone else.

Oh my! Elnoa, bless your heart! I cannot believe anybody would say that to you, especially a physician! That is awful and too fat? I dont think that is possible. Lol. Mine's pretty chubby and I never thought that was a bad thing and to be honest, I've never known a male who would think less of a chubbier or lop sided vagina. If by lopsided you mean one of the labia minora are longer/larger, you're not alone! I'm the same way and didn't know that was common. One of mine is pretty big and the other is barely noticeable! I've never had complaints and my partner says he loves it so I hope you don't take that physician's words to heart because what you described does not sound ugly to me. In fact, I don't see vaginas as "ugly" at all. Not that I see them a lot Lol.

I LOVED that you said "I'll keep my ugly vagina!" That was awesome. I'm glad you didn't let the dr get to you.

LOL @ "They also bleach their buttholes!" Ha Ha. I remember when I first learned that. I was totally freaked that anyone would put bleach there! Then I thought... uhh.. should I BE putting bleach there? That thought didn't last long. I'm sorry, but I think that's a little extreme.

She was a specialist I was referred to, as I needed some more specialized tests done than my GP could do. However, she worked at a clinic that also specialized in female-specific plastic surgery, and thus, I assumed she was merely trying to "sell me a new one".

Needless to say, I did not return to that office.

I think labiaplasty is absolutely insane! I'm not really for plastic surgery to begin with. If it's more medical than cosmetic, I can get behind that, but people go way overboard and should learn to love what they got instead of making themselves look like everyone else.

I realize your post is over a month old, but I am so horrified by the doctor's behavior that I would urge you to report her to the medical ethics board.

"The AMA and its Code of Medical Ethics have always maintained that physicians should provide competent medical care with compassion and with respect for patients."

She failed the "compassion and respect" part.

This happened years ago and I doubt I could do anything about it now. :/

I've experienced so much abuse (not all of it pertaining to my labia, lol) by the medical system over the years that I don't even have a doctor anymore. I don't even want to go. At this point, the one doctor I do go see at a clinic thinks I have polycystic ovary syndrome, but I need further tests and a specialist and I honestly just can't find a doctor that I trust enough to really go further...

I was going to post the great wall of vagina! Also, have you heard of the book "Pussy Portraits"? It shows pictures of peoples' vulvas next to a picture of their face. Also very enlightening photography on the great diversity of vulvas.

Unless there's a medical issue, why change? Love your vulva!

If anyone has a problem with my labia, they can see themselves to the door. Vulvas all look different. Penises and balls have variety too but no one is complaining about those, like making them less veiny or surgically making the head into a "better" shape. Screw those people!

I'm so glad to see someone finally mention the flip side of this, why aren't men being pressured to "fix" their genitalia?

I had it done, not for aesthetics, but because I had a growth that needed to be removed. None of my preexisting labia was removed, just the added growth. Women who have had tearing during childbirth are just some of the other's who have labiaplasty.

I think it's a shame to have an unnecessary procedure on equipment that is so important to your health & happiness. Every time I have been operated on & they cut me up somewhere, I have permanently lost sensation in those & sometime nearby areas. Some of the nerves in the healed areas are just gone & others give me itching sensations, so I would be afraid to have any cutting going on down there because of the nerve damage. Who cares if it looks "prettier" if it doesn't feel good anymore? I would never risk my sexual functioning on anything other than a medically necessary procedure!

I wouldn't ever want to change mine, unless someone had pain with it or they were so long that they got in the way, I wouldn't suggest it. Everyone's is different and I've never seen many I'd call an "ugly labia" (minus infection, herpes) I just think all of them are a little bit different. Both of my sides are different but I couldn't get surgery to correct that, if a guy has a problem with that then that's his issue.

If I knew I could get it done with minimal (aka super fast) recovery time, and that it would be guaranteed to look how I want and feel how I want, I could afford it, etc. I might consider it.

Otherwise my answer is "no."

So I guess my answer is basically "no," ha

I have never heard a man say he is dumping a woman because she has an ugly labia. You would have to look long and far to find a man that shallow. If you do find such a man, pray you have an ugly labia so he will leave you. You do not need that kind of person in your life.

If you worry about the appearance of your labia, you have too much time, too much money and need to spend some time around people who have real issues. It is sad that doctors have to create reasons to operate on people by preying on insecurities. I am glad you had enough sense and self-esteem to find a new doctor.

Another vote here by a guy who says PLEASE DONT EVER DO THIS! Every womans vulva is unique and beautiful and anyone who is lucky enough to be given a close look at a womans should be grateful! Honestly I've never heard of a man actually caring what she looked like, but I guess there are true assholes out there.

Ladies, if any man says your vulva is ugly or suggests surgery, kick the bastard out and find someone who loves your body!

No, never! I can't imagine ever doing that. It really saddens me that labiaplasty has become more and more popular because of the increasing pressure for women to have "perfect" vulva. Ugh.

Nope! I even know I have one labia that's an overachiever (longer than the other -- significantly) but I don't care!

I considered it in the past but then I realized all labias are different and my wasn't inherently ugly.

I cannot believe that someone of "professional" status would say something like that to you. That is repulsive.
