I am late with this review. I don't like being late but I want to fully experience a toy before I write about it. The Sexy Spades medium by Doc Johnson is a very attractive glass butt plug. But medium? My butt says no. Let's just say, I fully agree with the title of Jimbo Jones' review, "Push ‘til It Hurts and a Little More". More on that later.

To me, the beauty of glass toys is how hard they are; they don't have give, they are weighted. At the same time, with the swirls of color sometimes added in, they can have a delicate look. Don't be fooled. Glass is anything but delicate, unless of course you happen to hurl it against the wall. Even then, pyrex is fairly hearty but I wouldn't test it for breakability just in case.

Glass toys are perfect for, and geared for temperature play. This toy is microwave safe and can also be boiled for warm play. Some like it hot, but if you prefer it cold, pop it in the freezer for a few minutes. I don't usually play with temperature, but I appreciate options.

Speaking of options, since this is glass and not a silicone toy, you have some choice in what type of lube you play with: silicone, oil or water based all work. My body is somewhat fussy and I prefer to stick with water based lube.

There is a large, flared base to the Sexy spade toys, making it very safe for ass play. This flared base is quite pronounced. Trust me, you won't lose this toy in your anus.

I would suggest a few warm-up toys to widen your bottom prior to inserting the big gun. With the circumference of the Sexy spades medium being 6 1/4", I would suggest this is not a toy for the novice.

Getting back to my review; I found the Sexy spades medium to be more on the large side. It was difficult to use, especially with the amount of lube applied. Glass is slippery and hard. Insertion proved to be tough. I could not insert the toy on my own, even after several attempts. I don't do ass play on a regular basis, so I would still consider myself somewhat of a novice. I may have bit off more than I can chew.

What drew me to this toy is that I imagined once inserted, it would really stay in place. I still think this to be true, although I have yet to get this butt plug in my butt. I'm not giving up! I have had experience in the past with smaller toys not made of glass, that they will be pushed out on orgasm. I want them to stay in. This is the experiment I will work with on the Sexy spades. I may have to size down to small.

Okay, it's not that I don't like this toy but, well....it's either too big or I'm too small. I will reiterate two things about the Sexy Spades Medium Butt Plug: 1) it is NOT a medium but far more like a large and 2) it is not for a novice player like myself.

This is a beautiful butt plug but has no yield whatsoever and as a glass toy, became extremely slippery and difficult to work with for anal insertion once I lubed up, even with some amount of warm up play. I am a self admitted novice anal sex enthusiast and a baby player all the way. I just purchased the Gold Laced G glass dildo and will be trying that out anally. Since I will be downgrading from the 6 1/2 inch circumference of the Sexy Spades to 3 1/2 inch circumference of the Gold Laced G, I'm hoping for an easier and more enjoyable experience.
