I am always disappointed in the toys that lack adequate information regarding use and care on their packaging, but this wasn't the case with the Handmaiden Original. The plastic cover included plenty of information about the perks of a high-grade silicone toy, as well as proper care instructions and some tips for more pleasurable use. Also included with the toy is a small satin pouch to keep your toy nice and safe.

Opening the packaging, I found that the Handmaiden Original was clearly made in three parts: two halves and the logo. The toy has a very visibly noticeable seam, which is substantial enough to be felt with fingers, but minor enough so as not to be noticed while in use. What surprised me about the construction of this toy, however, is that the seam is an "innie" rather than an "outie.” The makers must have made each half, and rounded off the edges a fraction more than necessary before fusing them together, giving the toy a slight valley along its length, rather than a ridge. The logo was fused over the handle last, so that it would not have a seam through the middle of it.

There are a number of minor imperfections in the toy which demonstrate that it was not made to standards as high as those of, say, Fun Factory or Tantus. The most noticeable of which would be the seam, but the most notable would be small open bubbles in the silicone at the surface. I counted only four of these, but they are nonetheless problematic when it comes to cleanliness and safety.

Despite the seam and bubbles, the actual feel of the Handmaiden Original is on the higher end of the spectrum. It has a nice curve to it that can make excellent friends with your prostate. This curve, the length, the velvety surface and the ribbed tip all work together very well to create a fantastic feeling for your ass or wherever you want to put it, but the feature that attracted me to the Handmaiden was the handle. All of my other toys end in a simple flared base, or have a loop to hold on to; they were designed to stop the toy from being lost where the sun doesn’t shine. The Handmaiden, however, seems to be designed with control, as well as safety, in mind.

The toy’s handle nestled most comfortably in between my middle and ring finger, since this is where I felt I had the most control and power. From there, in order to reach my prostate, I had to approach from the front, instead of reaching around from behind as I am accustomed. Once in, it became clear the Handmaiden Original is a pretty standard anal dildo except for the handle, which changes how the toy behaves. Due to the flexibility of the silicone, the only real control the handle affords is somewhat akin to a thrusting motion, but it allows for a smooth entry and thrust from an excellent angle approached from the front. This felt absolutely fantastic, but was such a foreign position and motion for me that I found my endurance quickly fading. The motion is all in the fingers, instead of the wrist and arm as most guys are used to, so starting with the Handmaiden can be a challenge. With practice, however, and better endurance, the Handmaiden can afford a very rewarding anal experience.
