The Moon Shine is a beautiful, medium-sized glass anal plug. It can be used as a warm-up for anal sex or larger anal toys, or for anal/P-spot stimulation during solo play. It could be worn during sex. It's excellent for temperature play. Although glass isn't the ideal material for long-term plug wear, the Moon Shine plug could also be worn for a (fairly) long period of time. Because it's small, it's fairly discreet, making it a good choice for travel.

I've used it for warm-up and P-spot stimulation. It worked pretty well for me. However - and maybe this is just me - I've had a couple of problems with it.

The Moon Shine plug is made of borosilicate (aka Pyrex) glass, one of the most user-friendly materials for sex toys. It's strong, non-porous and is compatible with silicone, water or oil based lubes. Whichever lube you choose, you won't need too much of it; glass is naturally very smooth. It's also very rigid, so be careful and gentle when using glass toys; because of their rigidity, it's possible to injure delicate tissue if you're too rough.

Borosilicate glass is ideal for temperature play. It holds heat or cold for a long time. It can withstand much greater extremes of hot and cold than the human body can - so BE CAREFUL not to hurt yourself or your partner with excessive heat or cold.

Glass is odorless and tasteless. Because it's completely non-porous, it doesn't absorb odors. Glass toys can be shared without the use of condoms. Just be sure to completely sanitize before sharing.

Although some types of glass are famously fragile, borosilicate glass is quite strong. With proper care, a quality glass toy can last a lifetime. In the unlikely event it does break, it's designed not to shatter, but instead to break into large pieces. If your glass toy breaks, chips or cracks, play it safe and stop using it.

The Moon Shine is a great size and shape for anal play. The teardrop shape, with its small, rounded head, makes for easy insertion. The plug is 1 5/8 inches in diameter at its widest point, 3 3/4 inches tall with 3 inches of insertable length. The stem is 1 inch in diameter and about 1 inch in length. The base is 1 3/4 inches in diameter. Here's the Moon Shine (far left) next to the Sexy Spades Medium and the Cobalt Bubble plug:


As you can see from the photo above, it bears more than a passing resemblance to Doc Johnson's Sexy Spades
plugs; it's 1/8 of an inch larger in diameter, and 1/4 of an inch longer in insertable length than the Sexy Spades Small, 3/8 of an inch, and 1/4 of an inch shorter than the Sexy Spades Medium.

Personally, I think its design is prettier than the Sexy Spades plugs. The Moon Shine has a clear base. The main body is striated with amber. The tip is covered with a deep red swirl. It's elegant and simple, with its form following its function. The detailing makes it look beautiful and not just utilitarian.

In my opinion, it's too big for a typical beginner and too small for an experienced size queen. It's a good intermediate size which can be used as a stepping stone to bigger toys, or simply enjoyed by those of us who like our anal toys in the "medium" range.

Its modest size makes it fairly discreet and suitable for travel.

I used a little silicone lube with this plug and was able to insert it almost immediately. This surprised me, because my other 1 5/8 inch diameter glass plug, the Cobalt Bubble, usually needs a warm-up with a smaller toy before I can insert it. The Moon Shine just went right in - and unfortunately kept right on going! Maybe my hand was just a little too slippery or maybe I was just too relaxed, but whatever the reason, the Moon Shine went in right away - base and all! Fortunately, I stayed calm, wiped the excess lubricant from my hands with a tissue and carefully and patiently extracted the plug before it fully disappeared inside me. I found the experience disconcerting, to put it mildly. That was problem one.

Not to be deterred, I pressed on with my solo play, being careful not to insert the plug quite so far this time. Unfortunately, as I pleasured myself, the plug kept popping back out of me. I tried and tried again, but it just wouldn't stay in. This was problem two.

I've tried the plug several times since and, while I haven't repeated the "disappearing act," the plug has refused to stay in each and every time.

I've given up on wearing it during solo play, but it works great as a warm-up for being pegged by my wife with Vixskin Johnny (1 7/8 inch diameter). Before I got the Moon Shine, I would first use a 1 inch diameter glass plug and follow that with the Cobalt Bubble plug. Although the Moon Shine is the same diameter as the Cobalt Bubble, I'm able to insert it without needing another plug for warm-up.

Glass is easy to take care of. It can be cleaned with soap and water or your favorite sex toy cleaner. It can be fully sterilized by boiling for a few minutes (NOTE: if you do boil it, make sure it cools down to a safe temperature before handling or using). You can also clean it in the dishwasher.

I use soap and warm water to clean mine. After drying with a towel, I stand it on the shelf next to the other anal plugs in my toy cabinet. To protect it, I don't store it directly next to other toys made of glass or metal. It can also be stored in its pouch.

The Moon Shine comes wrapped in bubble wrap inside a burgundy-colored, velvety drawstring pouch which, unfortunately, is NOT padded. It's not at all obvious that there's a sex toy inside the pouch, so it's suitable for discreet gifting (you'll probably want to put it in a box or other container before wrapping). There are no instructions or other materials included, just the toy in its pouch.

Having read many of the other reviews for this plug, I believe my problems with the plug going in past the base and popping out during play are unusual. It's become my go-to warm-up plug because it goes in much easier than I would have expected for a toy of its size. It's easy to take care of and should last a very long time if I take proper care of it.
