I took it and Ran!

The Zini Ran is a great multi-use toy for women and couples. It is a beautiful shape that works well with the body. The Ran offers an incredibly wide range of intensities and patterns that are fun to use but hard to learn. There is a lot to love in a little package, though some may not find enough to justify paying the full price.

Use

The Zini Ran is a relatively small luxury vibrator for internal or external use. It has a great shape for both g-spot and clitoral stimulation, making it a great toy for women. Depending on how you angle the toy, it can be used for broad or pinpoint clitoral stimulation. It can also be used to stimulate nipples or other areas on the body. It isn't suitable for anal use because of the lack of flared base.

The Ran isn't waterproof, but it is splash-proof. It's also pretty quiet for many of the settings, so feel free to use it anywhere - except the shower, bathtub, pool, or anywhere else with water. This toy is great to use alone or with a partner. The small size means that it can be held comfortably between partners during intercourse in some positions. The Ran isn't a great toy for beginners, solo or coupled. It is expensive, complex, and has some awkward angles to get used to. If you buy this toy, you will need to spend time learning to use it and learning how to make it work with your body.

Material / Texture

The Ran is made of ABS plastic and body-safe silicone. Plastic and silicone are an 8/10 and 10/10 on the Eden safety scale, respectively. Both are non-porous, which means that these materials are easy to clean and disinfect. The material has no taste. When it arrived, this toy had a slight chemical odor which went away after being rinsed a few times. The silicone does attract lint, but I wouldn't call it a lint magnet. Just make sure to wash it before use if you are going to leave it out.

The silicone is amazingly smooth and velvety, and has very little drag. It feels very similar to the silicone on Lelo toys. The Ran is rigid. The silicone glides across skin with only a little but of pull. There is no flexibility to the frame and no give to the material. This rigidity makes firm g-spot stimulation simple and easy.

The material looks in real life just as it does on the product page. The silicone is matte and the plastic is smooth and shiny. The seams on the plastic handle that you can see in some of the views on the product page are just as obvious in person.

Design / Shape / Size

Zini Ran dimensions

I really like the size and shape of the Ran. I prefer smaller toys, so this was perfect for me. Looking at the head of the Ran from the top end, it is kind of a teardrop shape. The bulbous g-spot head provides concentrated, firm stimulation. The stimulation feels like a happy medium between pinpoint and broad stimulation. You will feel the vibrations everywhere, but the vibration and pressure is definitely focused on the g-spot. The neck of the Ran is very thin, only about 15 mm in diameter, so you may not like this toy if you like the feeling of fullness near the opening of the vagina.

The Ran is 7.8 inches long, 4.75 inches insertable. This toy is ideal if your g-spot is about 3 inches inside the vagina, but there is a little bit of wiggle room to work with.

Curve of the g-spot head

For clitoral use, the shape makes different kinds of stimulation easy. The tip of the teardrop, which houses the g-spot motor, can be used for pinpoint stimulation. If you like more broad stimulation, the toy can be tilted and you can use one of the flatter sides.

Teardrop-shaped head

The handle is about the same size as the head, so it is relatively small and easy to hold, even for those with small hands. The buttons are far enough apart that those with large hands won't have trouble using it either.

I would not recommend this toy for beginners. First, the small size is nice for those new to insertion, but the shape isn't. The triangle shape can make insertion difficult. There is some twisting and angling that needs to be done to put it in comfortably. It is also a relatively difficult toy to figure out how to use. Learning and memorizing how to perform all of the functions is a large task.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The Zini Ran is difficult to learn to use without the aid of instructions. Thankfully, this toy comes with an instruction manual that clearly explains its functions. Make sure to keep this manual because it will be your best ally in learning how to use the Ran. On the control panel of the Ran there are 3 buttons: + at the bottom, - near the insertable end, and O in the middle. Here is a list of operations:

Speed Mode:
click +: turns on to lowest speed, moves up to higher speeds
click -: moves to lower speeds, turns Ran off when in lowest speed
press and hold - for 2 seconds: turn off Ran in any mode
press and hold + for 2 seconds: turn to turbo speed (level 5)

Pulse (Pattern) Mode:
click O: change speed mode to pulse mode or vice versa
click + or -: change pattern
press and hold O for 2 seconds: random pattern
press and hold + for 2 seconds: turn LED pulse mode on/off

Travel Lock:
While the toy is off, press and hold + and - simultaneously (press - slightly before +)

Display Mode:
press and hold O and - simultaneously: 10 colors of LED light turn on and off in turn

Battery Level Check:
Press and hold O: check remaining battery level
Dark green = 95-100%
Light green = 70-95%
Yellow = 50-70%
Orange = 10-50%
Red = 0-10%

The Ran has 5 levels of vibration intensity and 15 pulsation modes. Level 1, the lowest intensity is relatively strong. Some vibrators have low vibrations that you can barely feel, but not this one. Levels 2, 3, and 4 get stronger, but the vibrations still have a similar feel to them. Level 5, turbo speed, has a completely different feel to it. The vibrations are much more rumbly and extremely powerful. I frequently find this setting to be a bit overwhelming, however the rumbly quality of the vibrations feel great if you're not too sensitive to the intensity. Turbo is also much louder than the other settings. I would give 1 bee to levels 1 and 2, 2 bees to levels 3 and 4 and the pulse modes, and 3 bees to turbo.

As I mentioned earlier, there are 15 pulsation modes. There is something here for everyone. The Ran has two motors: one in the neck and one in the g-spot head. When the toy is inserted, the vibrations can be felt really well on the g-spot and near the vaginal opening. They can also be felt well in the handle, which can lead to hand numbness. These two motors are put to good use in Pulse Mode where the motors aren't synchronized in some of the patterns.

The 15 functions are difficult to keep track of. Thankfully each function has a color to go with it. As a word of warning, the LED lights pulse with the vibration pattern so be careful if you have seizures triggered by flashing lights. The light can be turned off in Pulse Mode. Here is a rundown of the patterns:

White: slow ascending vibration instensity
Teal: medium ascending vibration instensity
Light Blue: fast ascending vibration instensity
Yellow-green: medium rollercoaster from g-spot head to neck
Red: fast rollercoaster from g-spot head to neck
Gold: slow rollercoaster from g-spot head to neck
Green: slow g-spot escalation with two fast pulses in neck
Orange: slow ascending vibration instensity with pause
Light Green: medium g-spot escalation with two fast pulses in neck
Magenta: fast pulses alternating motors
Salmon: fast pulses with pause, alternating motors
Blue: medium pulses alternating motors
Fuchsia: fast pulses and buzz
Pale Green: medium pulses and buzz
Tangerine: turbo mode

In Pulse Mode, these patterns can be scrolled through in a loop. The intensities in Speed Mode, the settings do not loop.

The patterns do not have variable intensities, so very sensitive users may be overwhelmed by the patterns. Most of the settings are powerful. Still, those who need very strong vibrations may not be satisfied with this toy.

Care and Maintenance

It is recommended that you clean the Ran before and after each use. To clean this toy, use a commercial toy cleaner, clean it with antibacterial soap, or disinfect it with a 10% bleach solution and run it under warm water. Disinfect it before using it with a new partner or in a new orifice. Keep water away from the charging port and keep the port covered. Because the Ran is splashproof, not waterproof, do not submerge it. Do not boil this toy. The charging port is covered by a small silicone flap at the bottom end of the toy below the control panel. It covers the port, but doesn't seem super secure. Again, be very careful with getting water near it. There are no visible seams on the silicone portion of the Ran. The plastic area has some seams that can be very difficult to clean. These seams can easily be felt and seen, but will not affect use because this portion does not go inside of the body.

The Ran has a 2 hour charge time for two hours of use. While charging, the LED lights will display the same colors as in the Battery Check Mode that I mentioned above. The light will be blue when it is fully charged. The toy may feel a bit warm while charging, but this is normal.

Only use water-based lube with the Ran. Silicone-based or oil-based lubes will break down the material. Do not store this toy with other silicone toys; this will degrade the material as well.

Packaging

The Ran comes in a beautiful 10" x 4.5" x 3.5" black box with a slight checkered pattern. There is also a red cardboard sleeve the says "RAN" with a drawing of the product. Once you remove the sleeve, the packaging is very discreet. Nobody will know what it is for unless they recognize the brand name.

The box has an attached lid with a magnetic flap to keep it shut. The magnets make it easy to open while still keeping the box securely closed. There is a cardboard insert with a plastic window that houses the toy. Under the insert, there is room to store the user manual, instruction manual, charger, and storage bag that come with the toy. The storage bag is a thin, black fabric with the same checkered pattern as the box. It has a drawstring that pulls tight and stays closed pretty well even without the strings being tied. If you take the insert out of the box, it is completely open and there is a lot of room for storage.

Contents of Zini Ran packaging

The two manuals that come with the Ran are referred to as the "user manual" but I'll call one the instruction manual for clarity. The white user manual and black instruction manual that are included are written in English, German, French, Spanish, Dutch, Korean, Chinese, and Japanese. The user manual has basic specifications, warnings, and care instructions for the product. The instruction manual has a table outlining which buttons to press for each function. Don't lose the instruction manual because you will need it to learn how to operate this toy.

The packaging is what really makes this a good toy to give as a gift. The box is so nice and discreet that you don't necessarily need to wrap it, and the instruction manual explains how to use the product very well.

Experience

Full disclosure: I bought the Ran on sale for $65.99. I probably wouldn't pay more than $90 for it because I wasn't absolutely wowed (and I'm kind of cheap). I'm not a huge fan of internal vibration so I mostly used this toy externally. I really liked that there were a lot of settings and I liked the shape of this toy. The things that I would change to make this toy perfect (for me) would be to make the seams smaller and easier to clean, make the silicone coating a bit thicker so there would be some give to it, and make the vibrations weaker in the handle. The motor in the neck feels nice in use, but it makes your hand go numb pretty quickly.

Overall, I don't have very many complaints. The Ran isn't perfect, but I think it is pretty close. I have no regrets in purchasing it. I would buy it again if mine broke, but I would try to get it on sale again.

Follow-up commentary
I still enjoy my Ran. I mostly use it externally because sometimes the shape and hardness of this toy can be a little bit uncomfortable for internal use. The vibrations are still as strong as ever and I have found that I have about 3 go-to vibration patterns that work really well for me.

I still forget how to operate this toy on occasion. Let this be another warning not to throw away the instructions! You will need them!

I don't regret this purchase at all. I've gotten a lot of use out of this toy with no new problems to report.
