Mimi is not for mi

The Mimi is a very nice toy... But it has a fatal flaw. The buttons being so testy (and sometimes painfully hard to push) really keep me from using this toy and reaching for something that will be easier on the fingers. It's not that I don't recommend the Mimi, but it's for a woman with more patience than I.

Use

The Mimi is a small toy that's intended to be used for external stimulation only. It's a similar shape to a stone that you can skip across the lake, with a broad, rounded top and bottom and fairly thin sides. This shape is easy to hold and maneuver.

As far as external stimulation goes, the best area that this is used on is the clitoris. You can either use the thin sides for more pinpoint stimulation or the wider bottom for broader stimulation. You also can use it along the penis or on the nipples if that's what you're into.

I wouldn't recommend inserting this vaginally and this would be horribly unsafe to try and insert anally. Not only is it a bad shape, there is no way that you can thrust or hold on to this toy once it's inserted. Anally this fancy toy would quickly become a trip to the emergency room.

You can use it for small, all-over massages. It would be nice for hand or feet massages, but it's not going to be too nice for deep-tissue or back massages. As usual, there is the warning that you shouldn't use this on calf pain.

If you're looking for a toy to introduce into a relationship this would be an okay choice. It's certainly small and cute, and it's not going to scare your partner off if they're okay with toys conceptually. On the other hand I usually recommend something more versatile, and nothing this expensive in case your partner freaks out and tosses it out the window or something.

As a first toy in general, this would be an alright option. Je Joue actually markets this as the 'Perfect first toy,' but because it's expensive, the crappy buttons, and the high price tag it may be a good idea to play around with some cheaper toys before you invest in a Mimi.

This toy 100% passes Ryu's dorm seal of approval. It's waterproof because it charges magnetically, and it's easy to store just about anywhere. It's also very quiet, something that's a must when you use it in a dorm setting.

Material / Texture

The Mimi is made of silicone coated plastic. Silicone is rated a 10 out of 10 on the Eden Safety Scale and is body safe and nonporous. This means that it's not going to leak any ucky chemicals that can get absorbed into your body and that bacteria can't get under the surface and thrive.

Since there is a motor in this toy you shouldn't boil it, but you can disinfect this by wiping the whole thing down with a 10% bleach solution. You should do this every time you plan on switching users to prevent the spread of bacteria and infection.

Being completely rigid, this toy is easy to put a lot of pressure behind. This is good because you can control just how intense it is, but if you're using it with a partner you will want to make sure that they know not to press too firmly on any of your sensitive areas.

The material is also completely smooth other than a small raised logo on the top. Because this toy is intended for external use there really isn't a concern about getting gunk in the logo area, but if you do it's easiest to clean it out with an old toothbrush.

This toy had no scent or taste to it, and it hasn't retained any after use. I did scrub it down with a lemony disinfectant soap because I was out of toy cleaner which made it smell lightly like lemon, but that scent has faded with a few hours time.

The Mimi also doesn't have a whole lot of drag to it so you don't really have to use lube on this one. If you want it to be a bit slipperier you can apply a drop of water based lube to the tip, but a little goes a long ways.

Overall, silicone is a lovely material for any user to own. It's easy to care for, it won't degrade with time, and it's completely safe. The plastic underneath does make it firm, but it's still a nice material for both beginners and advanced toy users.

Design / Shape / Size

The Mimi is shaped like a rock that can be skipped over water or a thick cookie. It's a very ergonomic shape that feels wonderful in your hand. It's small enough to be effective, but you aren't going to end up with hand cramps like you do when holding a teeny tiny bullet.

The Mimi is about 3 inches long and 2 inches wide across the top. In the middle it's just a bit less than 1 inch thick. This being said, you can hide it just about anywhere due to the size. It's flat enough that you can use it between two people during intercourse, though it may be a bit inconvenient to hold because you'll have to get your hand in the way to hold it.

The design is great for the ladies who need more pinpoint stimulation and can use the thinner sides as well as those amongst us who like broader stimulation and can use the flat bottom. I fall into the latter category because I dislike any clitoral play that is too 'intense,' but it's certainly intense if you want it to be.

The shape is discreet and whimsical, but if you leave it out it may attract attention. It could easily blend in if you have a lot of clutter on your desk or rocks around your house (especially if you got the black version) but otherwise it's such a pretty thing that people will pick it up. I would suggest keeping this one out of sight if you have guests over.

The Mimi is also small enough to stash in a purse or suitcase for traveling. While it doesn't have a travel lock, the hard to push buttons make it still safe to toss in with your makeup or wrap up in a shirt and pack with the rest of your belongings.

Overall, the Mimi is a cute toy that is very ergonomic. It's great for those who want something artistic and pretty, and it's not hard to use for beginners. It's a shape and size that I can recommend to any lady who likes external stimulation.

Functions / Performance / Controls

This toy is pretty darned powerful and quiet. When you first get it the battery needs to be charged up, which takes about 3 hours. While it's charging the little red light flashes, and it stops flashing when it's finished charging. You shouldn't be able to overcharge this one, but I still wouldn't leave it sit on the charger over night.

When it finished charging I thought that I got a broken one. I had held the plus button down for at least 3 seconds several times to no avail. I checked the forums, re-checked the manual, everything. I decided that maybe I just had to press harder.

After pressing super hard for about 5 seconds it turned on. Hooray! Now I wasn't ready to play and my roommate could come in at any minute so I had to turn it off. Same problem! I had to hold it as hard as I possibly could for about 7 seconds to turn it off.

This seems to be a pretty common complaint with Mimis, unfortunately. It's really something that keeps me reaching for my other toys, even though this one is a great vibrator. The ease of control is apparently a bigger deal to me than I though it would be.

To turn it on you hold down the + button. You then can press it again to turn to the next setting. The settings are as follows:

1) Very low
2) Low
3) Medium
4) High
5) Too high!
6) BZZZZ BZZZZ BZZZZ
7) BZZ BZZ BZZ BZZ
8) bbbBBBBbbb bbbBBBBbb
9) BZZZ BZZZ BZZZ
10) bbBB bbBB bbBB

You also can press the minus button to turn back to a lower setting, which is easier to do than turning the toy off. It has a TON of settings, something that I personally look for in a toy, but they are a bit less assessable. The new Mimi actually has a separate pattern button, if that would make your life easier.

On high this toy is for sure 4 vrooms, maybe even 4.5. The vibrations are pretty evenly felt everywhere which is fine for a vibration wimp like myself who likes it on the second setting, but just holding it to write this review my fingers went numb on the highest setting! If you are concerned with this you may look into a toy with more of a 'handle.'

On high it's also a bit less than 2 bees loud. It's not going to be heard over the showers or through a thin wall, but you couldn't really use this in the same room with someone. It's certainly great for those who need something discreet.

I've used this several times in the shower and submerged it to clean it and there haven't been any water problems. Because it charges magnetically I can safely say that this toy is 100% waterproof and lovely to take into the shower or tub with you.

Overall, I would recommend this to anyone from those with wimpy clitorises (like myself) to those who need oodles of power... If the buttons were easy enough to push. As it is, it's for people who are going to be less frustrated with the iffy controls.

Care and Maintenance

The Mimi is a pretty easy to care for toy. It's small enough to tuck just about anywhere. The silicone is a bit of a lint magnet, but as long as you keep it in a clean environment you can get away with just washing it after every use. I wash the Mimi with an antibacterial toy cleaner, but soap and water or toy wipes are also fine.

You also can wipe the Mimi down with a 10% bleach solution to disinfect it. This should be done every time you switch users to prevent the spread of bacteria and infection. You shouldn't boil this toy, though silicone itself can withstand high tempratures.

I keep this in a cool, dark place with the rest of my toys. You shouldn't store silicone toys in contact with other silicone toys because the two could potentially react together and leave you with sticky, pricy, ucky things. Similarly, you shouldn't use silicone based lube with this toy.
    • Easy to clean
    • Easy to store

Packaging

The packaging of the Mimi is also another high point. It's classy and sturdy, two things that always impress me. When you first get it it comes in a small maroon cardboard box. This states the name of the toy on the front, and has a diagram of the toy on the back. It's pretty obvious what it is, but it's not lewd or obscene.

When you open this box there is a second box made of super sturdy cardboard. This is closed with a ribbon and has the name of the brand on it. When you undo the ribbon, the Mimi is just sitting in a plastic insert.

When you pull the insert up it reveals the instructions and the charger, two important things. The instructions are informative enough, but they don't give an estimate about charging times. It's in many different languages.

If you aren't concerned about space this would be a superb way to store this toy. It's classy and it keeps everything together nicely. It also would be awesome to wrap and give as a gift if you know someone who is interested in a little, classy toy.

Experience

Mimi, Mimi, Mimi... This is a toy that I've heard people rant and rave about. I didn't get this toy as one of my first because I'm not too big on clitoral stimulation. Over the past few months I have figured out that I actually do enjoy clitoral stimulation, but I rather only like super deep vibrations. Hearing about how rumbly and awesome Mimi is, I broke down and requested it as my free monthly assignment.

Now don't get me wrong, the Mimi isn't bad. It's actually quite good! It has a lot of power, it's rechargeable, it's waterproof, silicone, several different settings.... But what got me was that the buttons were SO hard to push.

This may sound like a trivial issue, but when you have over 30 toys sitting in your dorm room waiting to play with, the idea of having to wrestle with this one instead of using an easier to turn off and on toy is just not for me. Over and over I find myself preferring to use one of my older clitoral toys.

I am giving the Mimi 4 stars. It's waterproof, doesn't need batteries, quiet, powerful, and silicone. The star is off because it's hard to change the settings and it REALLY numbs your fingers on the highest setting. Overall, I do recommend the Mimi if you can put up with the buttons.
