Desserted Island - Smells like a fluffy, delicious, coconut/vanilla cake!

I love it! Desserted Island smells so delicious, fluffy, and sweet. I'm planning on ordering more because I love it that much. The only thing that bugs me is that the bottle can be hard to squeeze sometimes. Also the bottle can get slippery and might need to be hand washed. This is my first product from Cake and hopefully not the last. I'm really happy with this body mousse and I'd recommend it to anyone that needs a vacation to a tropical island! It smells yummy!

Use

Cake body mousse is a luxuriously scented body lotion that makes your skin feel silky soft and smelling delicious! This is the first product that I've ever tried from Cake. I was surprised by the quality and the amazing scent of Desserted Island. It's smells and feels like a rich whipped blend of coconuts and vanilla. It smells so yummy that it makes me crave real dessert. It's a great moisturizer that's light and silky. I'd recommend it to anyone with a sweet tooth that loves the scent of sugary confections and coconut. The body mousse can be used all over the body like a typical body lotion wherever your skin needs some extra hydration. It's paraben free but it does contain glycerin.

"Craving a sweet escape? Drench your island-starved body with this exotic mix of pure coconut oil, decadent mango butter, rich macadamia nut oil, and aloe vera for the ultimate island fix. With tropical scents of tahitian coconut and vanilla, you can almost feel the sand between your toes. Get a double dose and start with Desserted Island Supremely Rich Bath and Shower Froth. Blender drinks and pool boy not included."

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

The texture of the body mousse reminded me of your typical body lotion at first. But then I unscrewed the cap and carefully turned the bottle upside down over the back of my hand and surprisingly it didn't start running out. It's thicker than most of my body lotions which tend to run but it's not as thick as a cream. It definitely feels like a light and fluffy mousse. On the skin it feels very silky and it absorbs really well. It leaves a slight hydrating sheen on your skin and it smells delicious! There's absolutely no feelings of stickiness or greasiness left behind. Overall, I think the quality of this body mousse is great!

Taste / Aroma

The scent "Desserted Island" smells like you're on an island paradise surrounded by ripe coconuts and vanilla beans! The scent is really sweet like you would expect from a product called "Cake." It may be too sweet for some. If you prefer really light to no scent products or natural scents then you probably won't like this. The scent is fairly strong when you first apply the body mousse and it definitely hangs around long afterwards. I can see how some could say it has an undertone of a chemical like scent but honestly to me it smells like the beach or maybe a hint of sunscreen.

I'm a huge fan of scented lotions and perfumes and I have a pretty big collection going right now. For comparison I have a body lotion from Bath & BodyWorks called "Vanilla-tini" which was a New Year's Eve limited edition lotion that most of my friends said smelled like "vanilla coconuts." It does smell similar to this but the coconut scent is stronger in the Cake body mousse. Vanilla-tini smells cooler and colder if that makes sense. I also have "Exotic Coconut" body cream from Bath & BodyWorks that I can compare it to. The Exotic Coconut smells extremely strong of real coconuts and it isn't as sweet and fluffy smelling as the Cake body mousse. Cake smells like a fluffy, soft, coconut cake with vanilla frosting. Yum!

Performance

I've used the body mousse on my arms and legs and I love that it absorbs quickly and doesn't leave me feeling sticky or greasy. When you start to rub it in it gets absorbed really fast and leaves your skin feeling extremely soft. I've tried all kinds of lotions before even cheap kinds and I can assure you this isn't a watered down mineral oil based lotion. The quality is much better than that. I'd personally put it on the same level as body lotion from bath & bodyworks because it smells so good and it works well for my skin. I also like that it contains natural oils and butters like macadamia nut oil and mango butter. When I'm massaging the body mousse into my skin it feels light and luscious. The aroma relaxes me and makes me feel warm and cozy.

After a while when the lotion is absorbed the scent changes slightly. It smells softer and sweet in a really pleasant way. It's a strong scent but it's far from overpowering. It's just strong enough that you can smell it while you're wearing it. I like my scents on the strong side so if you're really sensitive to products like this I'd use caution. Also if you don't like the scent of coconut I'd probably skip this and try something else. After use I felt no need to rinse it off but it comes off easily with soap and water. I also want to add that it contains no sparkles, glitter, or shimmer. The color of the body mousse is a creamy off-white color.

If you want to give someone a massage with the body mousse I think it would work out nicely. It absorbs fast but it leaves your skin so soft and silky that your hands can still glide over the skin with ease for a long period of time. It doesn't bead up like cheaper lotions sometimes do. I noticed that the scent fades slowly over the course of a few hours but my skin stayed silky for most of the day. It's not meant to last 24 hours so if your skin is dry you'll need to keep applying it or try something thicker like a body butter. Overall, I'm extremely pleased with the performance of this product and I'm impressed by the quality.

Packaging

EF almost always ships any liquids or lotions inside of a plastic baggy knotted at the top just in case of a leak. I really appreciate that extra effort. I wouldn't want my other items getting ruined by one leaky bottle. The lotion is so thick I doubt it would have leaked anyway but you never know!

The bottle itself contains 8.5 fl. oz. of body mousse. Compared to a bottle of bath & body works lotion it appears smaller but actually contains more. Bath & body works body lotion contains 8 fl. oz. So Cake gives you just a little extra! The Cake bottle doesn't have a sticker label instead the label is directly printed onto the bottle. The logo for Cake is a pink box outlined in white with the word, "Cake" in a fun and playful font style. The bottle is simple but very cute and would make a nice gift. There's nothing sexy about the bottle so you could give it to a gift to anybody. I plan on giving one as a gift to my mom for her birthday.

The bottle is made of plastic and the plastic cap is a click-top dispenser. I would have much rather had this product in a body cream tube so it would be easier to squeeze out. Even a simple pump top would have been better. To get the body mousse out you really have to squeeze the bottle hard. When the product starts running out it makes it even harder to dispense. When my other lotions get low I like to put the bottle upside down over an empty container so the rest drips out so I can use it. The body mousse is so thick I'm afraid I'm not going to be able to get the last bit of mousse out. When something is this good I want to use up every drop!

Some of the ingredients include: water, glycerin, sunflower seed oil, coconut oil, macadamia nut oil, mango seed butter, vitamin E, aloe leaf juice, and fragrance.

Made in Canada. Paraben free.

Follow-up commentary
I love using this because it smells like heaven. The price is a bit expensive but I think it's reasonable for the quality that you're getting. The only issue I have is that when it starts running low it can be a little hard to get out of the bottle. Even though the bottle seems like it would get used up quickly it actually lasted me a long time. A little goes a long way and it makes your skin feel like silk. I love the Desserted Island scent so much! I would definitely purchase this again. I've tried a couple of other Cake products as well and overall I'm really happy with this brand and will continue to purchase more Cake!
