Floating on a Blue Lotus Sea of Blissful Awareness!

Dona bath foam is a fun way to bring back memories of bubble bath fun as a kid. Although this is the adult version, the bath foam is high quality and fun to use. Overall I enjoy using this product and it's a great way to relax and get clean at the same time. I recommend you try out Dona bath foam if you enjoy bubble baths.

Use

Oh how Dona bath foam brings back memories of being just a young kid having the best time of your life playing in a bubble bath! Those were the days of having fun with toys, bubbles and splashing around. Well now we have Dona bath foam which is definitely more of the adult version of a bubble bath. Before I started using the Dona by JO line of products I was not much of a person to enjoy baths. I just stuck to having a quick shower, getting clean and getting out. But now I am completely hooked on this new line and plan on using it for a long time. Until something better comes out (if that's even possible).

For a product line geared towards the ladies it can also be easily used and enjoyed by men as well. With 6 scents’ to choose from, you should be able to find one you can enjoy and arouse the senses with. The Dona bath foam in "Blue Lotus" was actually sent to me free from the manufacturer System JO (Thanks Ashley). After picking out some items I wanted to try, Ashley threw in a couple others for me to try. So I can gladly say I have tried all the 'aphrodisiacs' or scents in the line. What I am trying to say, a product like bath foam wasn't exactly something I was expecting to ever use.

Honestly I am glad I ended up getting this product and it is very easy to use and quite rewarding I find. It comes in a 9.5oz bottle and the product says to pour in the desired amount into running water. However I have found that either 2 cap fulls or one full tablespoon is more than enough to create a nice layer of bubbles and lather. For the best results I also make sure the tub is at least one-third full before adding the bath foam liquid so that the most amount of bubbles will form. If you are not a huge fan of large amounts of bubbles, you can always start with 1/2 a tablespoon or 1 cap at first and see how that works for you. Depending on the size of your tub or where you plan to use this, you can most certainly invite a partner in the tub with you for some bubbly fun together.

Some reviewers have mentioned you can use this on a loofa or sponge as a shower gel; personally I have not done this as I find the product fairly high-concentrated. But if it bubbles and lathers like it does in the bath tub then I would imagine it would lather nicely as a shower gel. But I do prefer this as a bubble bath. As usual I recommend that you put on some music of your liking and light some candles for the most relaxing results. Overall the bath foam is supposed to be a gentle cleanser that lightly nourishes the skin. However if you have problems using products with glycerin in it you may run into issues with the bath foam. Dona uses natural plant-based glycerin that is alleged to be gentler vs. other types of glycerin; still I would take caution regardless.

You can choose to use this product by itself or in conjunction with other Dona by JO products in a 5 step ritual for the ultimate pampering experience. More information on this will be included in the special features section of this review.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

In the bottle the bath foam is interesting because it is fairly thick and viscous with a light caramel color to it. Also if in a tablespoon measure it has a similar light yellowish color, however once it is poured and mixed in with your bath water everything is clear like regular bath water. Because of the thickness of this bath foam, which is pretty close to warm honey, it will take awhile to pour out of the bottle. Generally I will lightly squeeze the bottle till I get the desired amount, just be careful not to pour too much out.

The raw liquid between your fingers is very concentrated with a slimy and slippery-slick feel to it. If you use one tablespoon (2 cap fulls) you will notice the water feels slightly softer with a smoother slick-feel to it, but nothing extreme. My first initial use was about 2 tablespoons and that left the water considerably slippery, slick and soft. This also left a slippery feel to my skin for a short while after soaking without rinsing off. However since using just 1 tablespoon I only have a very light slick feel to my skin, it is not oily or greasy and feels comfortable.

After using this bath foam a few times I have not really noticed any slippery residue left in the tub after use except for the first time when I used too much. However, if you have other people using the tub/shower I would recommend rinsing out the tub afterwards for safety. The bubbles that form are nice and thick with a slight soapy feel to them; they are nice and slick when rubbed over the skin. Overall the whole experience with this bath foam I found it to be slick and slippery but in a much enjoyable and fun way, not the chemical unpleasant way. This product makes my skin feel very clean and smooth.

I've included an animated image to condense the pictures; it will rotate through a few images that should speak for themselves. The photos are however of a test run I did with the water, I added one tablespoon and only filled the tub one-third of the way. So your results in the amount of bubbles will vary.

Taste / Aroma

Considering I have never had the pleasure of smelling a real Blue Lotus I cannot really compare to that specifically. But what I can say about this product is this particular scent is quite soothing and enjoyable. In all my life I have never been a big fan of floral aromas, except for when I smell a real flower. My partner loves carnations and when I smell those, they are quite light and subtle but oh so lovely. So in all honesty I would have to say the blue lotus bath foam reminds me of that, in the sense that it is lovely and relaxing with an all-natural smell to it.

In the bottle itself the aroma is quite strong, but not overpowering at all. At first 'sniff' it is a bold flower aroma; I can pick up on what seems like a nectar scent which makes it sweet and flowery at first. After a short while I start to pick up on a somewhat soapy/cleanser smell, but not a strong one that is chemically or unpleasant. Depending on if you have your bath with the door open or closed and the size of your bathroom will determine how the aroma will fill up the bathroom. For me, I generally have the door closed and a rather small bathroom, so naturally the aroma quickly fills up the bathroom. Overall I find the scent as a whole carries through the whole soaking process and stays the same but much more lighter and subtle than in the bottle.

In my first use where I added too much I will admit it was rather strong which kind of turned me off from using it again. But I used less and a few more times and I have been trying to pick up on anything else in the aroma profile. I'm not the best at picking up scents and even more describing them compared to some people. But I would have to say there is a slight fresh melon-cucumber undertone to this, it's light and hard for me to pick up, but I can smell it. Overall I find this to be a good soaking scent, it is natural smelling overall and quite relaxing, and my partner finds it very "pretty". Probably more of a scent for the ladies, but I don't mind it. This is for external-use-only so ingesting it (or drinking the water) is not recommended and I'm not sure why anyone would want to anyway.

Overall the aroma seems to last nicely throughout my whole bath soak (20 to 30 minutes each time) and lingers in the bathroom for a good hour after. My skin always smells fresh and clean after use, the smell of the product seems to last for a couple of hours afterwards when I put my nose right on my skin. But don't expect it to last strongly like a perfume for more than 30 minutes after soaking. Also on a final note I do pick up on some similarities to the mangosteen products in the Dona line probably because of the coffee and mangosteen ingredients.

Performance

Honestly I did not know what to expect with this bath foam. As mentioned I don't normally take bubble baths, so I can't compare it to other products on the market. But in my experience in using it I find it performs very nicely and I seem to enjoy it more than I thought I would. From its texture/consistency to its lovely natural smelling aroma I can honestly say it does a great job at making me feel relaxed and clean. I also expected that I would need to rinse off after using this but actually I did not. However to be safe I found it was best to at least rinse the bath tub out since bubbles were left in the bottom.

What I can compare this to though is that some body-wash products that have a similar feel to the Dona bath foam will often leave my skin itchy and dry after use. With Dona bath foam I found this to be the opposite, my skin did not feel itchy or dry, but not quite deeply moisturized. If you have extra-dry skin you may need to moisturize after soaking. Overall for how this is intended to be used and perform I think it delivers well. My main complaint is actually just with the bottle itself, after pouring a small amount of liquid will run down the side. It's just an inconvenience because I need to wipe it off fast with my fingers and rinse them off under the running bath water.

As far as bubbles go, with 2 cap fulls I found there to be a generous amount, but nothing of an over-abundance of bubbles. I can imagine the 2 cap fulls will please the majority of people, but 3 or 4 cap fulls will really provide a lot of bubbles you could probably cover your body with. In any case, the bubbles are long lasting, with 20 minute soaks they last the whole time and don't really dissipate too much (will vary based on movement and so on). With 30 minute soaks where I am turning into a prune, at least two-thirds of the bubbles dissipate. For my use, this bath foam is quite enjoyable and fun for when the mood strikes.

Packaging

As with all Dona by JO products you get your classic lace designed label. It's not my ideal style but I love the product line and am not going to complain about something as mediocre as a label. The bottle is a tall 9.5oz hard plastic bottle (recyclable no. 1) which will make it easier to knock over if you are not careful. The small black screw-on-cap is easily removed with one hand; the bottle will have a small foil seal to keep it from leaking until you open it. In use I have not experienced any issues with leaking even if the bottle lies on its side for a long period of time.

Since I received this one from the manufacturer it just came in a small box with my other Dona products and some brown paper in between them. However if you get your bath foam from Eden it will most likely be wrapped in a plastic bag in case of any leaking during shipping. Overall it is kind of large for traveling purposes if you are limited on how much room you have to take things. But never fear you can easily transfer some of the bath foam to a small portion sized sealing container to travel with. Other than the product saying it is a part of an "aphrodisiac infused ritual" it is very discreet.

Here is another animated image rotating so you can see various pictures of the product Including a size comparison with a standard water bottle.

    • Can be opened with one hand
    • Discreet looking packaging
    • Does not leak

Ingredients
Purified Water (Aqua), Sodium C 14-16 Olefin Sulfonate, Sodium Cocoamphoacetate, Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Propanediol, Glycerin, Sodium Chloride, Lycium Barbarum (Goji), Coffea Arabica (Coffee Seed), Euterpe Oleracea (Açaí), Morinda Citrifolia (Noni), Punica Granatum (Pomegranate), Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea), Garcinia Mangostana (Mangosteen), Citric Acid, Benzyl Alcohol, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazone, Disodium EDTA, Fragrance (While fragrance can mean anything, I sure hope that Dona stands true by its all-natural claim with this ingredient)

I would like to point out that a few of the Dona products I received from the manufacturer and Eden have ingredient lists that don't seem to match the product pages (excludes the super-fruit). I am still waiting for the correct information from the manufacturer for accurate ingredients. For now, the list provided above is for the Blue Lotus Bath Foam I received. So until I hear back from the manufacturer whether the ingredients are correct or incorrect the list provided will have to suffice.

Personal comments

Aphrodisiacs are a substance that can be ingested or absorbed through the skin and are alleged to aid in increasing sexual desire. Dona has aphrodisiacs in their products and they are labeled as such, Blue Lotus, Pomegranate, Mangosteen, Açaí, Camu Camu and Goji Berry. Results will vary from person to person; I personally do not feel any sexual desire when using these products. However I would imagine if you were to use some of them with a partner then naturally you would feel an increase of sexual desire. I will also point out this is how they name each product, so when you buy pomegranate it does not necessarily mean it will smell of pomegranate, rather they are designed to smell unique to everyone.

Also on the packaging for the bath foam it states that it is "A brand new kind of bubble bath". Other than the use of super-fruits and it being all-natural I’m not really sure how or why it is considered an all new kind of bubble bath. I don't want anyone to buy this product expecting something new or that the aphrodisiacs will give them more sexual desire. Just have an open mind when using this product and others in the line and make the judgment for yourself.

Minus one or two products so far I have used in the Dona product line I would say the bath foam is definitely of considerable high quality. What makes it the most unique is the implementation of super-fruits and all natural ingredients. No parabens or harsh chemicals will give you peace of mind when using this line. This among most of the other Dona products earns my 5 star rating from personal use, experience and overall product quality.

If you were to use 2 cap fulls (1 tablespoon) for each bath, the 9.5oz bottle should provide you with about 19 uses. Of course this will vary based on how much you use, but at 19 uses you are paying around $0.47 per bath, or around $0.94 per 1 ounce based on Eden prices without a sale or discount.

Don't forget you can ask me directly via private message or leave a comment with any additional questions about any of the Dona products I have reviewed for additional information. Also I have an online copy of Dona product information/catalogs if you would like a copy of those.

Experience

What can I say here except that I used this product without any good or bad expectations and found it to be quiet relaxing and enjoyable? From filling the tub to drying off I really did not have any major complaints or problems in using this product. After each use my skin feels relatively soft and smells very clean, so what better way to relax and get clean at the same time? Maybe later down the road after I use up some other bath products the bath foam would be something I would definitely purchase again but more so in the pomegranate or mangosteen.

Also to my surprise one particular night when I was bathing in the bath foam I had unintentionally got some of the bubbles in both my eyes and had only very minor irritation. Naturally I would have expected severe irritation and burning, but I quickly flushed my eyes out with lukewarm water from the faucet. So in the long run I can say I enjoy using this product, its high quality with some great ingredients, but most importantly its fun!
Follow-up commentary
After all this time I have not quite used up all my Dona bath foam, I’d say I have about one-third of the container left. I do enjoy using this product, but I think in time I have really taken a liking to using bath salts more than anything else. This is a great product and it performs well in my experience in using it without any major flaws or complaints. Maybe later on down the road I will buy it again, but for now I will enjoy using the Dona bath salts since they aid better in relaxing achy muscles.
