Wheres all this hype coming from?

If you want something cute to stick in your purse and the balm applies alright for you, then I would say go for it. If you're an "on the go" person that likes convenience, this probably isn't the product for you.

Use

This organic lip balm from EOS (Evolution of Smooth) is free of chemicals, all natural and lightly scented.
This lip balm sports a unique shape, making it easy and fun to apply your balm anywhere and anytime it may call for it!

This lip balm contains: Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil*, Beeswax (Cire D'abeille)*, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil*, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil*, Natural Flavor, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter)*, Stevia Rebaudiana Leaf/Stem Extract*, Tocopherol, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil*, Vaccinium Angustifolium (Blueberry) Fruit Extract*, Fragaria Vesca (Strawberry) Fruit Extract*, Prunus Persica (Peach) Fruit Extract*, Linalool. * Organic. Certified Organic by Oregon Tilth.

As far as I can tell, this balm does not contain alcohol. Which is a common ingredient in lip balms. Alcohol tends to dry out the skin and will cause you to have to reapply your balm often. This balm, does not contain alcohol so applications will be less than with other balms.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

The texture of the "holder" is very smooth. The balm itself is smooth as well, but the balm is tightly packed (extremely dense)and does not roll on as easily as other lip balms. You have to apply quite a bit of pressure in order to gain any kind of benefits or even for it to roll onto your lips. I found that applying pressure actually "broke" the balm in one spot and left a rather large gash in the side of it, while breaking off entirely too much lip balm for me to use in one application. I found this somewhat annoying. I prefer my lip balm to glide on smoothly, and to be able to actually feel like it is on. With the Organic lip balm from EOS, I felt like there was nothing on my lips after "applying it" and felt like I had to keep applying it for a lengthy period of time in order to get anything off it. Its not greasy or sticky or icky feeling in the least. (That is, if you can get any of it on your lips). Something about this balm was odd for me. It just doesn't live up to all the hype that I was reading, and it certainly (in my opinion) isn't worth the $8 its going for. And of course, it doesn't come close to any of the other balm that I use currently.

Taste / Aroma

I ordered the honeysuckle and the summer fruit. The honeysuckle smelled/tasted just as I had imagined it. Smells and tastes just like it should. The summer fruit, I was hoping for something a little more fruity. I can't compare it to anything, as it was a very strange flavor for me. It does have hints of fruit to it, but its like a "watered down" scent or flavor (if that makes any sense?). Both of the flavors were very light and "airy". I would almost say that they gave me a "summer-y" feel.

Performance

Honestly, I have to say that I am not impressed with the EOS line of lip balms at all. There was a lot of talk about how wonderful their balm was, but I just cannot say the same for my experience. The design of the lip balm was another draw back for me. Yes, it is a cute and unique design, however its not practical. I cannot see sticking this in my pocket and being able to sit or be comfortable while it is in there. When I travel, I travel light. Most of MY things, go in my pockets while everything else for my kids goes into a diaper bag. If I were to try to put this into my huge purse or diaper bag, it would surely get lost and be rolling around at the bottom of my bag, instead of easily accessible for a quick application. I keep one by my night stand and have tried using it numerous times over the past two weeks. Still, I just don't see how this lip balm helps me at all. Aside from the annoyance of the product, my lips do not seem to be doing any better since using this, than beforehand. My lips have been suffering horribly due to the weird weather changes (hot to cold, back to hot again, its craziness!). Either way, I have seen no benefits or even pleasure in using the product.
Follow-up commentary
Though I haven't really been able to see where this product has gotten as much (and the kind) of hype that it has going for it, I think that I am starting to warm up to it a little. I have been using this balm on and off for about two months now (maybe a little less?) and I have noticed that the more that I use it, the softer that it glides on. Its still one of those hard to roll on type chapsticks but its live-able. I keep this on my bedstand next to my bed for use before I go to bed and in the morning if need be. I don't usually use it much else because of the awkward shaping of it though. It doesn't fit into my pockets and its not easily reachable at the bottom of my massive bag/purse, so it just stays there. Would I buy it again? Probably not. Is it worth the price? Well, I have seen it (not on sale) at Walmart, Walgreens and Target for roughly $1.50-$3.00 so I would have to say that its definitely not worth purchasing this at the price its going for.

Wow, I am surprised to read a negative review of this! I've been using this stuff for a couple years now and it makes my lips flawless and soft. It smells great and I love that the container is a distinctive shape and I can easily find it when I'm groping around in the bottomless pit of my purse. I think I might have to write a review of this myself! Thanks for your thoughts, MamaDivine!

I am so glad I am not the only one. I don't understand the hype. The lip balm dries very quickly. It is hard to roll on without doing 10 coats. It is too thin for my liking. At least it smells good though. Thank for your honest review.

Yea I noticed it is a little harder to roll on too and also thin. I have not done my review yet because I am waiting to get all the scents then do them. Great review thanks for sharing!

Sorry Lexical, It just didn't do me any good . I really tried to find the good in this stuff too lol. I had read so many awesome comments on it, and I thought "Did I get a bad batch or what!?". I honestly thought I had lol.

Thanks Beck, and you're very welcome! I hate giving negative reviews, and I really tried to find the good in this product. Sadly, the only thing that I thought was any good about it was the scent and the cute container. Its just not practical for a mom like me, on the go all the time. I dig for enough junk in my purse-I prefer lip gloss (which I am forever applying like an OCD issue lol) to be ready at hand, in my pocket!

Im glad to see that I was not the only one. I kind of had a feeling that I was going to catch hell for this review lmaooooo!

Glad to finally hear of someone else that holds the same impression as me---although, it's not really "chemical free"---oils and Vitamin E (tocopherol) are chemicals too

I hate feeling like there's gobs of stuff on my lips and usually prefer feeling like I'm not wearing lip balm, so I may actually like this stuff. Hmm, I wonder if I scraped just a little off and applied it if it would work for me.
