Lubricant discontinued
by K-Y Brand

Doctor knows best!

Cheaper price, higher quality, better results. Focus on passion, and not on lubricant! K-Y may be a basic lubricant, but it's worth every penny and it never disappoints.

There are dozens of lubricants on the market, and I've tried many of them.

A lot of the fancier ones contain chemicals that I'm just not comfortable using in such a sensitive place. I've tried name brands, warming brands, cooling brands, tingling brands, water-based, silicone-based, all-natural, hemp extracted, and creams. No matter what I tried, no matter how expensive, no matter how slippery it felt at first, every single kind disappointed. They get "tacky", sticky, gloppy and uncomfortable. Most even itch as they start to dry. Eventually you add more, or add spit, or dip your hand in the glass on the bedside table, just to rehydrate the lubricant. Sometimes, you just hurry through sex to get it over with so you can shower. Which is definitely NOT why you spend $11 for a 2 oz bottle of lubricant.

Then one day, I was at a prenatal checkup, legs in stirrups, wishing my doctor didn't need to make small talk, and I look over at his supply table. It occurs to me that I've been to these doctors every year for a decade. They all use K-Y jelly for a similar purpose, with no warm-up. Afterward, you need a handful of tissues so dry off, and you're not sticky and itchy five minutes later.

The next time I was in the drug store, I picked up some K-Y. Surprise, surprise, it works just as well at home as it does in the doctor's office! Who knew?

Now, once a year I think "Gee, maybe I'll try that new lube I saw advertised." I do, and then I get sticky and uncomfortable and frustrated. I break out the K-Y again, stare at the new brand on the bedside table for about a week, and finally throw away the new brand.

Sometimes you just can't improve on the classics.

Keep in mind that this does have parabens in it, so people with sensitivities will have a reaction.

    Thanks for the review.

It also has glycerin...which can cause yeast infections for some people. Glad it works for you though.

    Welcome to Eden.

I'm a health care provider (Maternal Infant care) and have spent half my life smelling like KY. We used it for years, after babies, due to dryness, and I never knew until I started using sex toys (and learning about safety) that the glycerin in KY was causing so many yeast infections and UTIs in me. (That wasn't taught in any nursing school that I know of.)

Not everyone is sensitive to Glycerin and parebens, but do keep in mind a lot of people do.

Thank you for the review, I'm glad this classic works for you.

This is actually one that contains the ingredients that I am not comfortable with and that I do not feel safe at all using because I know it will just lead to UTIs for me!

I think maybe the "fancy" ones you're talking about are other drug store brands? I say this because you mentioned seeing advertisements. On EF there are actually a lot of wonderful lubricants that are made with natural and body safe ingredients, you might want to check them out

I have always had trouble with KY products, just recently I had a yucky irritation from supposedly sterile KY jelly used during my yearly. it's good to see someone who can use KY products and not have problems!
  • Contributor: Kitty
As a person who has sensitive skin, but no problems with yeast infections, I can't really speak to that effect, and I appreciate the input from those of you who are more informed about it.
From the sensitive skin perspective, it's never given me problems.

To clarify - I just reviewed the jelly here - not the liquid.
