Our Chilly New Friend

Overall, this is probably the best lube we've got as long as we don't use it on a toy. It's thin but not messy, very slick and smooth, long lasting, and can feel very cold or just tingly when used in the right spots. He gives it three stars, and I give it five, so we evened it out to four for the review. If you're new to sensation lube, this is a good one to start with!

Use

Wet Ecstasy is a water-based personal lubricant advertised as imparting a cooling sensation. It is made with an herbal blend, so it's body safe and shouldn't mess with your toys either. We've found that the best use for it is for non-pegging anal sex, the male-as-penetrator variety. This product is good for anyone wanting to dabble in sensation play by starting with a special lube or for people just looking for a slippery good time. There are no allergen issues, so most anyone can use it safely. It also comes in a silicone variety if you're looking for something thicker, as this is very thin and barely this side of runny. The drawback to this is that you can't use it on silicone, which is rapidly rising as a very popular sex toy material—not that this one works great with toys either, though I'll talk about that later. I do recommend it highly for non-toying sex, and it's actually the first lube I'll ask for during anal sex every time now!

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

The texture of this lube is very smooth and slick. It feels almost like my own natural lubricating fluids, though it's less viscous than our other lubes. (We use the thicker lubes for pegging purposes.) It comes out of the bottle nice and easy, aided by the ovular hole that allows air in as the lube comes out. It doesn't get sticky or greasy, but it also only likes to stay put on skin. With every toy I tried, which I'll get into a bit later on, the lube just thinned out, beaded up, and rolled off.

Taste / Aroma

Upon opening the bottle and removing the seal, I detected a light scent of mint. It was coming from the lube! It smelled slightly sweet, quite minty without being too strong, and just a tiny bit spicy. After a while, the mint and other herbs absorb into your skin, and it smells like a sweeter version of every other water-based lube in the world: the tiniest bit like Elmer's glue. In the same turn, in small amounts all you can taste of this lube is the mint and sweetness. However, in larger amounts you would probably taste the lube underneath. I don't recommend drinking the stuff, but it's not unpleasant if you happen to get some on your lips or tongue.

Performance

Depending on what it was used for, this lube lasted between fifteen minutes, vaginally, to half an hour, anally, and could easily have gone for longer, at least in the back door. I can't figure out why it lasts for such a shorter time when used vaginally. Going solo, I didn't need to wash it off because my skin and vaginal walls just absorbed it. However, because my boyfriend used quite a bit to keep it slick and safe, there was extra to clean up after anal sex, which was as easy as a washcloth and hot water.

I think the best part of this, though it's supposed to be the cooling aspect, is actually the slickness. It really is very smooth and nice. Plus, it doesn't seem to stain the sheets like our Astroglide and IDGlide have before, which is good because lube stains look a lot like oil stains. Gross.

Packaging

The product is packaged just like most other lubes: in a plastic squeeze bottle with a flip top. The label has a metallic shine, as does the plastic of the cap, and the body of the bottle underneath is black plastic. Normally, I don't like using a product I can't see, but because Wet is a reputable company, I gave the bottle the benefit of the doubt. So far there are no leaks, so it's suitable for travel, but I don't suggest leaving it lying around if you might have company; it says "Wet ECSTACY" in huge letters down the length of the bottle—not very discreet at all. On the plus side, the bottle is recyclable, which I recommend doing when the product is gone. There is no need to fill our landfills, right? Right. I know you'll do the right thing.

Special Features

At the risk of being redundant, the special features include a cold sensation followed by a tingling sensation. Also, it's an herbal blend and totally body safe, allergen free, and non-latex.

Experience

My initial reaction to this lube was, "Cooling sensation? Alright, what's in it?" It turns out that it's an herbal blend, and I decided that since I know a thing or two about herbology outside the world of Harry Potter, I would share my research. This herbal blend includes peppermint extract (for chilling), damiana leaves (to increase sensitivity), and passion flower seeds (a soothing aphrodisiac). But what surprised me most was the inclusion of ginger root extract. Ginger is used in an old Victorian practice called "figging," which is basically putting a piece of ginger root ... in your butt. Sound crazy? IT IS. The ginger feels cold and safe at first, sure. But then the juice quickly absorbs into the anal walls and makes you feel tingly, then kind of spicy, then really hot ... Finally you wonder if you're ever going to defecate safely again because you'd swear your ass is on fire. (Still this is actually considered a very safe practice!) Thankfully, it doesn't go that far in this lube. But I can't help but wonder, even after using it a few times, why they would put ginger, which feels warm, in a lube that is supposed to have a cooling sensation.

When I got this in the mail, I was nervous but excited and couldn't wait to get into it as soon as possible. (Don't tell my boyfriend, but I tried it first without him, though to be fair I waited a week and a half for him to want to try it, and he just didn't seem to want to at the time.) Because I have very sensitive skin, the first thing I did was to dab some onto each wrist where the skin is thinnest. This was to test to see if I had any reaction to it and to feel whether it chilled strongly or not. But after several minutes, nothing happened. I blew on it, and it was like blowing on normal, wet skin. So I wiped it off and ventured to my nipples next, to the same effect. I was feeling quite let down and not expecting much different as I dripped some onto my clit. BOY, was I wrong! As soon as the liquid hit my most sensitive spot, I gasped. It felt COLD, as if it had just come out of the refrigerator. The surprise of it turned me back on, but after a little rubbing and moving, the icy feeling was reduced to a dull, warm tingle. Wait, warm?! That's right, ladies and gentlemen, this lube acts a little bit like IcyHot (which, for the record, I do not recommend putting anywhere near your genitals; check YouTube to see why). However, I discovered that the warming sensation was even more pleasurable than the chilling from before. And that's just me; maybe it will be different for you. The slick effect lasted about fifteen minutes, and I only had to reapply once before my solo play ended in a strong orgasm.

A few nights later, my boyfriend was giving me a back massage. Which, if you know us, you know a back massage is more than likely to end with some sexy fun. While straddling my hips, he reached to the floor and got the bag we keep all our sex toys and lubes in, and he pulled something out of it. I thought, "Ooh, I get a treat tonight?!" I recognized the pop of a bottle opening, but couldn't identify which lube he had selected. Expecting him to be lubing a toy, I was surprised when he dripped some directly onto my anus. Once again I was shocked with the icy-cold feel of this lube. Unlike on my clit, the chill didn't stay where he put it. Instead, the cold sensation seemed to seep inside me a good inch before he ever inserted anything into my rectum. It felt amazing just sitting there and chilling my bum for a minute before he easily slipped inside me for some anal fun. Half an hour later, the lube was still slick! I don't know why, but it lasts a lot longer anally than vaginally. During the course of this anal intercourse, the chill again faded. But the lube did something strange. The tingling sensation faded in and out! Sometimes it was there, sometimes it wasn't, and there didn't seem to be any timing to it; it was just "SURPRISE! Your butt feels tingly again!" When we were all done, he popped me on the bum and asked me how I liked our new lube. I think it's great. He said, "It just felt like lube."

Unlike our other lubes and toys, this lube probably won't be used for pegging purposes. This is mainly because it has a tendency to bead up and roll off when applied to toys for some reason, even though it stays put amazingly on human skin. I tried it on several different toy materials: hard plastic, TPR silicone, Tantus silicone, ceramic, and glass. None of them held onto the lube very well. However, I did use some on my boyfriend during foreplay before our pegging activities ensued. Here's what he said: "I could kinda feel it. It tingled a little, but mainly it was just wet and slippery; nothing to write home about. It didn't even get cold for me. But I'm glad you liked it, Meli!" And like it, I did. Like it, I did.
Follow-up commentary
To say "I still like it" is a gross understatement. This is my favorite lube thus far, and will be for a long time to come. A while back, I accidentally sent our IDGlide through the washing machine. (What happened was this: The landlord had to come over to check something out for us, and our sex paraphernalia was strewn about form the night before. The last thing to grab was the IDGlide, so I slipped it in a pocket... and forgot to check before I washed those pants.) Anyway, after cleaning up the ensuing mess, the only lube we had left was our Astroglide, which is past date and should be thrown away, and this, our wonderful Wet Ecstasy Cooling Lubricant. And I was proven wrong: this lube does work for pegging purposes! However, it does require re-application, once or twice depending on how long we go, and he can't really feel it cooling or tingling, but in a pinch it was great. And when it got onto me, I could feel it. We did get a new bottle of IDGlide, but when we have both lubes on the nightstand, odds are quite good that we both will reach for Wet first. The bottle is almost half gone already! I hope others enjoy it even half as much as we have. Thanks for reading!

Glad I could help! We still love this one, though obviously I do more than he does... For him, it still feels like just lube. But I still get a chilly thrill
