The Original Jelly

Overall, it's a good product to have around the home. You never know what you might need this for in the long run. K-Y Jelly has many uses and is a good product for the uses intended. Great for someone who just needs a little extra lubrication. I don't recommend it for travel, as the bottle leaks easily when squished.

Use

K-Y is a popular brand that has been around for quite a long time. Being used in hospitals for medical procedures was how it all started, but it is now a very popular lubricant for other things like help inserting tampons, and sex! It is the "original jelly," as many like to call it, but it doesn't always do the job when it comes to sex. I think after the 100+ reviews I've done, I might as well do a review on the first sexual aid I ever used in my life!

Ingredients: Purified water, Glycerin, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Chlorhexidine Gluconate, Gluconolactone, Methylparaben, Sodium Hydroxide

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

The viscosity is quite thick, but it definitely thins out as you spread it. From the touch of it when first squeezing out of the bottle, you'd think "Ew. This is going to be some sticky stuff". But when you start rubbing it between your fingers, you notice it thin out like water and it becomes very smooth.

It does stay in place, and it does not run. This is one of the things I really like about K-Y Jelly. However, you may find that it isn't enough to lubricant properly because of this. You want your lubricants to run just a little bit if you are someone like me, who needs serious lubrication help from time to time. If you're dry as a desert, don't count of K-Y to fix that unless you glob it on yourself. But if you just need a little lubrication to help with inserting an anal toy, or to help get a little more "slide" during sex, this will work fine.

Taste / Aroma

The taste of this product is light, but it is unpleasant for those who may prefer flavored lubricants or don't like lubricants that are not flavored. It has that "glycerine" taste to it, almost like drinking from a cup in which hasn't been rinsed enough after being washed with dish soap. So it's not going to absolutely kill you, but it's not good for oral. Do the oral first, and then add the lube!

The smell is non-existent. So many people claim K-Y has a scent if you try hard enough to find it, but it literally isn't there. My husband and I have used this lubricant many times and we've never noticed a smell.

Performance

The lubricant performs well for the activities that I mentioned above. However, you need to apply it again after about twenty minutes (and sometimes sooner, depending on how little you applied or how much you need). It gets sticky after twenty minutes if you apply a lot of it, and if you apply to little it will just dry up within 10-15 minutes. You can definitely tell it's water-based because of this!

I still wash up after using this lubricant, even though it is water-based. It has glycerine in it which irritates the urinary tract and the vagina, and can cause yeast infections and UTI's. So I do recommend washing up in a warm bath or a shower. Showers are best since baths may possibly push the lubricant into your vagina further.

As far as what I like best about the product, I would definitely say the lack of ingredients that are not needed. A lot of lubricants have ingredients that just cause more irritation and trouble. Such as flavored lubricants, lubricants with added sensations, etc. If they use this in hospitals, you know it's one of the safer lubricants to use.

Packaging

K-Y Jelly comes packaged in a small thin cardboard box. On the box you will find the same logo, and all the information provided on the bottle. The only difference is that the print is larger. Neither the bottle or the box is discreet, as most everyone knows what K-Y is and it says "personal lubricant". Pretty much gives away the use of this product.

The bottle is not sturdy enough for travel in my own opinion. I've often had my K-Y bottles leak and it gets quite annoying to the point where this is a product I leave at home.

Personal comments

I want to say that I rarely use this for sex. I usually use it for anal toys, or for a little help using tampons when I am having trouble with lubrication. It works great for both of those things. My husband has used it for help putting in suppositories when he had stomach problems and it worked great for that as well. So it's basically those times when you just need "a little help" and not a lot.
Follow-up commentary
This is a product my husband and I have used many times. Very reliable for what it is used for, but not exactly our go-to. Really depends on the situation.

I just so hate a lube that presents a major cleanup after use. Probably useful; for medicinal needs but for sex...there are so many better lubes available now.
Good review in that it reminded me of why I haven't used it in a long time.
