Pretty In Purple

I am really happy with the Corset with Ruffled Lace Hem by Coquette. It's a feminine, attractive piece that can be worn in the bedroom, as well as out in public. The material is comfortable on the skin, though I did find the chest to be a bit "gappy". It's a gorgeous corset and I'm glad I purchased it!

extremely useful review
My favourite colour is purple and I love ruffles. When I seen this corset, I was really excited because it had both. The corset is not see-through, so I ordered it because I plan on wearing it out in public underneath a nice cardigan. I purchased the size XL, though it is available in sizes S-1X/2X.

The Corset with Ruffle Laced Hem by Coquette arrived in a clear, plastic bag. There was no text or photos on the bag (I believe it was just used to protect the corset from dust, etc). The shoulder straps and garters were attached to the corset in a small zip lock style bag along with the product tag.

The corset is 82% nylon and 18% spandex. The ruffle trim along the bottom of the corset consists of 2 layers of ruffles. The top layer of ruffles is lace, and the bottom layer is mesh. The bottom layer of ruffles is slightly longer than the top layer so it peeks out from beneath the lace. The trim is approximately 2-2 1/2 inches wide depending on where the measurement is taken.

The corset is ridiculously stretchy. The corset material itself is stretchy, but there is also an elastic band that goes around the entire middle section on the inside of the corset. The elastic band is 1 inch in width. On the outside of the corset (underneath the sash), you can see where the elastic band is sewn. This isn’t a big deal for me because I plan on wearing the corset with the sash, but thought it would be noteworthy for those who had intended on wearing it without. In the photo below, you can see the stitching on the outside of the corset where the sash should be.

I’ve taken measurements of the corset lying flat, unstretched. The corset was done up on the second row of hooks (tighter fit) when I took the measurements. If you need additional measurements, please do not hesitate to send me a message and I can get them for you.

Detachable, adjustable shoulder straps: 9-16 ¾ inches each (2 in total)
Detachable, adjustable garter straps: 5 ½-9 inches each (4 in total)
Purple ribbon sash: 64 inches
Sash width: 1 ½ inches
Back of corset length (taken down centre of back- not including ribbon trim): 13 inches
Chest width: 16 inches
Front of corset length (taken down centre of front- not including trim): 14 inches

Both the shoulder straps and the garter straps are detachable and do not need to be worn with the corset. The loops that the pieces attach to are located on the inside of the corset, so it will not look weird if you choose not to wear them. Both shoulder and garter straps are just under a ½ inch in width. The garter straps attach to stockings (which are not included) by pressing a rubber piece inside of a metal loop, which you put behind the stocking. I won’t be wearing the garters, but I’ll be wearing the shoulder straps to hold the corset up. Below is a photo of the two detachable pieces. The shoulder strap is on the left, and the garter is on the right.

The corset does up on the centre, back of the corset with hook and eye closures. There are 2 rows of hooks, and 17 hooks in each row. There is a ¾ inch gap in between the rows.

The boning is a flexible plastic and there are ten boning pieces in total. A purple material covers the boning, with black lace on top. The two boning pieces that run along the sides of the corset do not have this covering. These two pieces have a solid black cover on them.

The purple ribbon sash stays in place by two loopholes on the corset. There is one loophole on each side of the corset. The loops are a thin black ribbon that you run the sash through (similar to belt loops on a pair of pants).

The top part of the corset comes down into a “V” at the centre of the chest. There is no padding and no underwire. The material is thick and I will probably wear this without a bra. If you have a larger chest, you may find the lack of support uncomfortable.

The quality of the corset is high, though down one of the boning pieces, there are a bunch of loose threads. I’ll trim these pieces off and I am just thankful it is only one of the pieces with loose threads and not all of them.
Experience
...continued

The care tag states that the corset should be hand washed and line dried.

When I had worn the corset, I found that the top of the corset stuck out rather than stayed close to my body. When I wore the straps, the front part of the chest stayed close to my skin, but the sides still stuck out. In the first photo below, you can see the gaps on the side. The second photo shows the back view, third is the side, and fourth is with a sweater (how I’d wear it out in public).

I also found that the sash would loosen as I moved around, and that caused it to sag. I did not find that the boning was strong enough to really “hold” everything in, but the material was comfortable on my skin when wearing it, and it looked pretty too.

Overall, I rate this corset a 5 out of 5. I love the colour, the ruffles, the sash, the way it fits me, and it’s comfortable. While the corset does seem to be a bit “gappy” on the sides of the chest, when I wear a sweater with the corset, you cannot tell.

Thanks Amber. Usually when I get a size large it's too tight for comfort. I guess it depends on the make though. You're probably right about getting a size lower for this piece.
