Not Singing Its Praises

The whole purpose of this vibrator is to stimulate the g-spot and clitoris simultaneously. While it will do this for some women, it won't fit others so well. Also, the vibrations are weak and buzzy. For these reasons I give it a 3/5.

Use

The Opus is a dual stimulator meant to pleasure a woman's g-spot and clitoris simultaneously. It is unique among such toys in that it is not at all a rabbit design. Instead, it's more of a c-shape or boomerang style. The smaller end is inserted into the vagina, while the broader end rests against the clitoris and labia. At least, that's the intention, if you're lucky enough to fit it correctly. As for yours truly, it fit around my neck a lot better than it did my genitals. (For those wondering, yes, it feels great for neck massage.)

Opus can be used by singles or as part of couple's play. You can take it in a shower, bath or pool since it is totally waterproof. I am not much for using toys in the water so I can't tell you my experience, but I will say the seal seems tight and there is a rubber O-ring around the battery compartment.

Material / Texture

Opus is made of 100% silicone, an Eden-rated "10" on the material safety scale. Silicone is non-porous, phthalate-free, and completely body safe. It is also a good material for beginners because it has some 'give' to it. So you can thrust to your heart's content without worrying about getting bruised like you might with glass or steel.

Like most silicones, this one has some drag, so be sure to use plenty of water-based lube with it. It will collect some lint and hair, but not the worst I've seen. Just keep it in its box or other storage when not in use and you should be fine.

Right out of the package, I smelled it, and there was no chemical odor. The toy is completely smooth, with no texture whatsoever. This is another reason Opus would be a good choice for those new to sex or just new to toys; texture can easily get to be too much for the uninitiated.

There are two seams down the length of the toy, front and back, but they cannot be felt during use.
    • Flexible
    • No odor
    • Not porous at all

Design / Shape / Size

As stated above, the Opus most closely resembles a boomerang in shape. The purpose of this is so the larger end can lay against the clitoris while the smaller end is inside of you. It should be noted here that the large end is NOT intended to be inserted. I imagine it would be quite painful.

Because the toy is so flexible (see picture), it can theoretically bend to fit a wide variety of shapes. The problem (at least for me) is that when the shaft was inside me comfortably, the handle didn't reach my clit. And when I forced it to, the insertable part jabbed me painfully. Needless to say, this is a frustrating experience.

According to my measurements, Opus is 14" long, and depending on which side you measure, 5" or 6" insertable. The circumference of the widest part (around the battery cap) is 5.5", and the circumference of the shaft is 3.25" except the bulbous tip which measures 4". In my opinion, this should be a good size for most beginners.

While Opus doesn't scream "sex toy" in the same way, say, a realistic dildo would, most people would probably figure out what it is so I wouldn't recommend leaving it out in front of company. It can be traveled with, but I would take the batteries out first just to avoid any unexpected mishaps.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The Opus operates on two AA batteries, which are included in the package (score!) Operation of the toy is very simple. There are two buttons, one to turn the toy on, and one to cycle through the patterns, of which there are eight. As you might have guessed from the musical theme, the patterns have a definite melodic sound to them. Well, five out of the eight do. The remaining three are steady vibrations.

While I found the patterns interesting and fun, I was disappointed that the power was so weak. I have two other vibrating toys, and I can get off with either, although it does take some time. With Opus, my clit was numb and my wrist was tired from holding the toy before I even came close to an orgasm. Since the vibrations originate in the clitoral end, one can imagine how they feel in the insertable portion...virtually nonexistent.

Another problem I had with Opus is that it didn't seem to fit my body well. It just didn't reach my clitoris without causing me pain. It took considerable effort to make it "work", and by then I was so frustrated I just didn't feel like playing anymore.
    • Discreet sound
    • Easy to use
    • Lots of variety in function

Care and Maintenance

Silicone is relatively low-maintenance, but it does need care to keep it in tip-top shape. First things first, NEVER store silicone toys touching each other, and NEVER use oil based lube on a silicone toy. Doing either of these things will ruin the toy.

As for cleaning, you can use just about any method except for running your Opus through the dishwasher. Toy wipes, sprays, or soap and water are recommended. You can sanitize it by dipping the insertable end in boiling water or soaking the entire toy in a 10% bleach solution.

Packaging

The packaging that this toy comes in is simply outstanding. Not only attractive, but discreet and tasteful to boot. The sturdy cardboard box is made to look like a set of drawers, with the Opus on one drawer and a bunch of extras on another. Yes, that's right, EXTRAS. A silicone cock ring, toy wipe, velvety bag, batteries, and a sample size vial of lube, to be exact. So even if you're completely new to sex toys, you have everything you need and more to enjoy the Opus right out of the box. This, in my opinion, makes it (and any of the Close2You products) an excellent gift.

There is also a booklet written in several languages describing how to use and care for the Opus, and introducing the other toys that Close2You makes.

    • Good for storage
    • Very informative
    • Would make a nice gift

Experience

I will not say that this is a bad toy simply because it didn't work for me. It has worked well for others, so it might be worth giving it a try. Just be aware that even if it fits you, the vibrations are on the weak side. I think this toy might be best as a warm-up/teasing toy rather than one expected to give earth shattering orgasms. Then again, that's just my opinion.
Follow-up commentary
I ended up sending this back to Eden, I disliked it so much. This is the only toy I've had to do that with. Very disappointed in it.
