The New York Times this week is running an interactive feature called “Coming Out,” about gay teen-agers, in their own words. The Times said it spoke with or e-mailed nearly 100 gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender teenagers from all of parts of the country — from rural areas to urban centers, from supportive environments to hostile ones. The newspaper contacted them through various advocacy groups, as well as through social networking sites.
It’s a well-done, poignant look at how gay teens look at the issues and at themselves. Take a look at “Coming Out.”
In other New York GLBT news, Gov. Andrew Cuomo continues his full-court press in support of marriage equality with the release of a video.
“When it comes to fighting for what’s right, New Yorkers wrote the book, and marriage equality is the next chapter of our civil rights story,” Cuomo said. “It’s hard to imagine today, but at one time it was illegal for an interracial couple to marry in this country. We have come a long way and now it is time to go even further. So please join me in supporting marriage equality, equality for all New Yorkers. Contact your state legislators and urge them to vote yes on marriage equality.”
