In my opinion, butt plugs are more for long term wear. The pleasure is in a having that full feeling for a longer period of time. Plus, they're great to wear during masturbation or sex, so you can experience double penetration.
As for how they feel...well... you feel full. I find that I move differently while wearing one. Granted i prefer the sensation of anal beads to butt plugs.
As for recommending one, unfortunately I can't recommend one, I haven't found one I like enough to recommend. I am wanting to try the Tantus Ryder tho!

Beads are more of an "active" toy. You put them in and can slowly pull them out. I'm not a big fan of most beads because there's no easy way to get them back in other than the slow one-by-one approach, so they're too much of a "one shot" toy for me. Bead sticks don't have this problem.
