Is there such a thing as an ugly pussy? I personally think my vulva is hideous, but then I thought about it and realized that most genitals are sexually arousing, but not aesthetically pleasing. I am attracted to women, but I hate looking at my own vulva. Looking in the mirror down there to trim is like looking at the gates of Hell.

Vulva surgery is growing in popularity; women are looking at porn and starting to feel that their labia are too big, discolored, etc. While it makes me sad that so many women are worrying unnecessarily about this, I kind of wish I could change the appearance of my...trouser taco.

You should watch this documentary on women's labia. The Perfect Vagina

Having your labia altered looks like a super painful procedure. The documentary shows a class that's given that helps women appreciate their labia no matter what they look like.

The point is made in this documentary that women have a distorted idea of what the average labia size is. One woman who thought she had large, ugly labia saw an exhibit of casts of hundreds of women's labia and concluded that her's weren't large after all. I remember an interview with a gynecologist who said women asked him all the time about labia reduction surgery when they had absolutely normal sized labia.

Its really common for women to think they're too big there.

I myself do have large labia (I think of them as voluptuous), but I'm not going to do anything about it. No one has ever complained.

Just here to point out not all women have vaginas, not all men have penises, and not all vagina-owners necessarily identify as female.

I tried to pick the most neutral one of the options, so I went with the second. Long as there's nothing funky going on (infections, diseases, etc,) most vaginas are alright in my book.

True! Sorry, I try to be trans/intersex/etc.-fr iendly, but sometimes I forget. I guess I'm talking about female genitals, as I'm sure aesthetic issues apply to women who have penises, or any other structure. I guess I should have said 'ciswomen'.

I don't think it was meant to make people who have different gender identity issues feel like they're not included in the poll.

I just want to point out that not everybody has gender-identity issues/conscientiousne ss in the forefront of their minds at all times. Sometimes a little grace should be extended to those who are not hyper-aware of this issue. Especially cisgendered people who may not have too many friends (if any) that have struggled with gender-identity and/or dysmorphia.

That being said, I agree... as long as there's not any kind of vaginal infections or whatever, all vaginas are beautiful in their own rite.

No, but I am hyper-aware of transgendered issues. I just messed up. I've actually had several transgendered boyfriends, so I should have known better.

Not a big deal. Jfree made a valid and important point with ringing in, but no offenses were committed. We are all adults that can understand a slight oversight.

When I was younger, I had body-issues including labia-hatin'. It can be hard to navigate what is 'right' or 'pretty' when the subject is hardly talked about publicly and the distorted world of porn is all you have to turn to (...come to think of it, the public sphere can be more damaging than porn's; magazines and TV form a very poor, fucked up version of the American ideal, vagalistically or otherwise). As with most thing in life, there is rarely a 'right' and never a 'perfect'. I suppose everyone must arrive at that for themselves when they are ready.

This kinda reminds me of a conversation I had with my sweetie after we'd been together for the first time. He, British and white as the driven snow, had never seen a Latina like me and was pretty amazed at my shape and coloring. As soon as he started talking about it, I could feel my defenses going up but he ended up saying that I was beautiful in his eyes. It was extremely powerful to hear what I've fought to believe in come from someone I love, so naturally and without any doubt.

I think all the time that mine is sooo not attractive, but the boyfriend is always quick to assure me otherwise I would never be up for surgery no matter how much I disliked it though. What if it ended up worse? No going back after something like that :/

I think our bodies are all beautiful, unique and different.

I wouldn't want anyone to go through unnecessary cosmetic surgery. It's painful, expensive, and if you're dissatisfied w/ your body, it's not going to change that. There's no magical fix for distorted thinking.

I have never seen a healthy vulva that was ugly. I think the variety is absolutely beautiful, even from a purely aesthetic perspective. However yours is, if it's healthy and gets the job done then yes, it IS perfect in my book! Every woman should be able to enjoy her vulva.

I do the same as you! I am attracted to it but find mine to not be o-so-great lol and yes it's like people are worried about all the wrong things! If he/she is there its because they are attracted and like it! I sometimes get iffy too, especially when I get waxed because I'm like dam, this lady must have seen all kinds, how do I compare? Lmao. I try to be all sunshine and rainbows about this stuff, but at the end of the day it comes down to how you feel about it. I don't really encourage cosmetic surgery, but there are some things that just bug people about their own appearance, and reassuring them doesn't make it better.

My point is, if it really bothers you to the point where it's altering your life choices or hurting your social life, then I don't think there's anything wrong with doing something about it. It may well be a blessing that it's a problem you can actually do something about. There are a lot of dudes out there going bald, or with chronic acne, or *gasp* are just plain short. Somehow, we manage. I spend a ton of my time working out so I can have abs, and I hate working out. I'd be a hypocrite to tell somebody that they shouldn't do what it takes to make them happy with their own bodies.

All that said, most vaginas are awesome.

Genital cosmetic surgery baffles me. If a guy doesn't like it, he's free to find another one. Penises are generally easier to come by for women, so I won't have any trouble finding another one--one attached to a guy who likes my pussy very much.

Wow, reading this has made me feel a lot better. My most recent relationships have been with Asian girls (I'm Caucasian); different genes obviously means a different vulva. I just felt like my labia was so big, floppy, and saggy compared to them.

However, I've never met a vulva I didn't like, other than my own. I think it's probably to do with my own body image.

The blue waffle doesn't count because that poor person clearly has some kind of serious infection. It must be very painful.

And I'm glad that jfree was willing to point out the difference between gender and sex. Awareness is key to acceptance!
