A good handheld toy comes up a little short as a strap on dildo

The Purr provides a rocking good time as a hand-held vibrating dildo. Its ridges provide textured stimulation to the entire vaginal or anal canal, while the firm head of the toy provide g or p-spot stimulation. Its vibrating bullet can be felt throughout the shaft or be removed if the user prefers. It can also be used with a strap on, though the removal of the bullet makes the shaft somewhat more flimsy.

Use

As a hand held dildo/vibrator, the Purr shines. The ridges are heavenly. They’re smooth enough that they don’t feel abrasive the way some toys’ texture do, but they’re defined enough to really be felt, a great combination. They also extend nearly the full length of the toy, meaning that they can be felt on the first few inches of the vagina even once you’ve inserted the toy fully. This is nice since it means that I could stimulate both my g-spot and the rest of myself simultaneously. Incidentally, the head of the Purr isn’t ridged, which provides a nice contrast to the contoured shaft. What’s more, the shaft’s ridges conducted the vibration nicely. In fact, I could feel it vibrating even in the head. Nowhere was the vibration particularly intense, but it did add a little bit more to an already exciting textural experience. In water, though, the vibrations were a bit of a disappointment. The Purr is waterproof; but, I found that in water, the vibrations weren’t intense enough to really be worth the trouble. That’s okay, though, since the ridges still felt great.

While I loved the Purr as a hand-held vibrating dildo, she came up short in some other ways. First, the Purr isn’t quite as curved as I’d like her to be. Specifically, I really had to angle my wrist while inserting her, if I wanted to hit my g-spot. This was a bit uncomfortable after a few minutes. Second, when I transitioned to using the Purr as a strap on dildo, I found that she was a little lacking. To use her in a strap on, I decided to remove the bullet vibrator, as my pubic bone would have been turning it on and off constantly, had I left it in. Unfortunately, without the bullet in, the shaft of the Purr became structurally somewhat unsound. It wasn’t that the toy was actually breaking, but the hollow part of the shaft became somewhat more flexible than was convenient for a penetrative dildo. It wasn’t a huge problem, but I’ll probably stick to fucking my partner by holding the Purr, rather than by strapping it on.

Material / Texture

Purr is made of medical grade silicone and thus had no smell or taste upon removal from the box. It’s hard to say whether the Purr is soft or firm. It’s firm enough that you could use it for anal penetration and has a flared base, which is important for anal use as well. But the material also has some give to it, so I hesitate to call it a wholly firm toy.

Design / Shape / Size

Size-wise, the Purr checks in at a very average size among sex toys, about right for the moderately experienced, probably not enough for a size queen, and probably too much for someone beginning, but just right for a whole lot of us.

Performance

I was overall pleased with the performance of the Purr as a hand held toy, but less so as a harness compatible toy. Given how many harness compatible dildos are on the market, I'd say that in this case, the buyer is better off focusing on one that specializes in that feature, rather than expecting a great hand held toy like the Purr to also hold up to another set of standards.

In regards to the noise, the Purr produced about the same amount of noise as any other silicone toy with a bullet stuck into its shaft. Let’s be honest people, you combine vibration with other surfaces and you can’t get below a minimum quiet level. With that in mind, the Purr was relatively quiet, easily contained behind a closed door and under blankets.

Care and Maintenance

The Purr is made of medical grade silicone. You can clean the Purr using soap and water or a toy cleaner. You can sterilize it by popping it in boiling water. While a condom will dull some of the deliciousness of the ridges, they can be used to stay safe if using it with multiple partners between sterilizing.

You can store the Purr in contact with anything but lower grade silicone products. It'll degrade lower grade silicone if left in contact with it for too long.

Packaging

The Purr came in a simple clear plastic box with the bullet packaged in a separate compartment and a tab to keep it from turning on accidentally prior to its arrival. There were no instructions because it’s a pretty self-explanatory toy. The folks at Tantus respect our intelligence enough to expect us to figure out where to put it on our own. One tip I would give relates to the bullet: you’ll want to lube it up before sliding it into the hole, since that’ll allow you to get it out later.

I'm glad there are more positive reviews of this toy now. I really don't understand how much it was rated so low with oldest reviews. I'm sorry that the shaft became too unstable for harness use though. Great review!

You mentioned that it was a little structurally unsound when used with a harness? Do you have other dildos that you prefer?
