Feel Good About Using a Lube That Feels Good

I love Satin by Sliquid for many reasons. It performs like a good lube should, and it also has the body-safe properties of any all-natural beauty product. It is great if you are looking for some extra vaginal moisture, or just need some lube for sex or solo play. If you are the type of person that reads labels looking for parabens, or have had reactions to skin products, this may be a good choice for you.

Use

Satin by Sliquid is a wonderful all-purpose lube. It is designed for daily use for people who find themselves with some dryness, but it has also proven itself to be a winner for masturbation, with toys, or during sex. It is advertised to be "Uniquely blended to emulate your body's own natural lubrication", which is a topic I wish I could chime in on to help you, but I do not find myself overly dry at this point in my life. Luckily, however, other reviewers have found it to solve this issue. If I had a friend who complained of dryness, I would recommend this great product in a heartbeat, because not only is it effective as a lubricant, it is also safe. I have not used it anally.

Sliquid is an environmentally friendly and body-conscious company, and Satin is no exception. It is made in the USA, and boasts a list of pros: water-based, aloe & Carrageenan enhanced, Gluten Free, Vegan, glycerine free, paraben free, hypoallergenic, and non-toxic. All of these are wonderful for me; I am very sensitive to self-care products, and get reactions easily (often to organic products, interestingly), and my S.O. has Celiac, so seeing a Gluten Free label on anything is thrilling. Neither of us had any reactions with this Lube.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

I found this lube to be nice and slippery, and the perfect pairing with a silicone toy. Only a little dollop is needed for a play session, with maybe one re-application if you are taking your time (over an hour).

I would say it is a nice medium viscosity, and it will not run down your hand or a toy after squeezed out of the bottle. I did not have any problem with it running onto my sheets. I would say that it is not as thick as some lubes (notably some of the anal lubes), so it is up to your preferences. It does not bead, and it is not greasy in the slightest. It does foam up a bit if you are rubbing on it, but the bubbles do not affect its performance.

Satin is completely clear and non-staining. A pillowcase that got some on it came out of the washing machine as good as new.

Taste / Aroma

I found no scent or taste with Satin. This is a huge plus in my book, because it does not contain any fragrances, artificial flavors, or chemicals that may make it taste bad. I strive for all-natural and fragrance free beauty products (for both allergy reasons and personal preference for safe natural products)...why should my lube be any different?

Performance

This is a water-based lubricant, and I bought it knowing that it does not perform in the same way that ones containing silicone do (which my previous lube did...and that junk stayed slippery forever!). I was pleasantly surprised that Satin lasts through all of my average play sessions (half hour or less), and if it dries out/absorbs, it is easy to snap open the top and reapply, which is no problem in my opinion.

I do find that I need to use a moderate amount of lube, about the size of a quarter, for sex or masturbation with a toy. Not tons, though! I found that even after many weeks worth of use (meaning using it a few times a week for about 3 weeks), I still have about 90% of the lube left in the 4.2 oz bottle.

Satin is wonderfully slippery, and the only negative I have with it is a moment of stickiness right before it dries/absorbs into the skin. When I feel that little bit of stickiness, I know it is time to reapply. It only lasts a moment, and then all of it is gone. Unless you are mixing it with other body fluids (ie, during sex), it is not necessary to clean up after using. After all, it is meant for daily use for vaginal dryness, so you can treat it as a regular lotion that you can leave on your skin without worry.
    • Absorbs into skin nicely
    • Feels natural

Packaging

Satin is in a plastic bottle with a push-down cap (that is, you push down on the back of the top, and the front will lever open to expose the spout), which is very easy to use in the bedroom -- ven if you fingers get slippery. It will not spill in its closed position. I have stored it lying on its side with no leakage. It ships with only a plastic bag covering it, which is all I needed.

It is a pretty, dark cobalt blue bottle, with gold writing and a floral logo on the front. It is very discreet. If someone were to see this on your bedside table, they would need to read the print to see that it is a lube and not any old hand lotion -- I really appreciate this fact. Sliquid prints all of its health information right on the bottle, which I (as someone who really looks for safety in my products) love. The bottle is also recyclable.
    • Can be opened with one hand
    • Discreet looking packaging
    • Does not leak
Follow-up commentary
After getting lots of use out of this, I can still safely say that I like it! One thing I would like to add to my review is how similar it is to my natural lubrication --I really can't tell where one starts and the other begins. I may just keep buying this brand -- no need to test any more! Love it.
