Is it worth it to have a remote?

Looking for something to use in public? Keep looking. This is truly best for hetero penetrative sex. Women who don't require powerful vibrations will like it, and it's rumbly as opposed to buzzy. The remote actually does make it easier to use during sex.

Use

The We Vibe 3 is a toy specifically marketed and made for heterosexual couples and PIV sex. It adds more "girth" internally and pressure/vibrations for your g-spot while offering vibrating stimulation to the clitoris during sex - all "hands free".

The We Vibe 2 did not have a remote and so every time you'd want to change a setting on it it was a big deal - the sucker would be slippery and the button was small. No more messing around with that now that there is a remote, though!

The We Vibe 3 isn't really going to work as a remote-controlled vibrator just for her out in public. While Lelo's Sensemotion technology marketed that scenario as an option (and failed for me since the remote is wonky through clothes and even flesh) We Vibe firmly sticks to partnered sex. The remote has a range of only 10 feet and the signal didn't transmit through clothing any thicker than a skirt or panties, and even that was only if the remote was in direct line of sight with the We Vibe. During sex though there were no issues with the remote connecting to the toy.

Material / Texture

The We Vibe is pure silicone, but it's the type of silicone that is shiny and sticky...by sticky I mean that it's a magnet for dust and fur and if there is no barrier of lube it won't glide easily over genitals. There are subtle ridges on the g-spot portion but they didn't do anything for me.

You really, really need to use lube with this toy (water based only, of course). Of course, the more slippery things get the more the thing has a tendency to "travel" around but at least it wouldn't get painful.

Another situation that this wouldn't work in is if your male partner wears a condom - the friction that can happen between this type of silicone and a condom is risky.

Design / Shape / Size

Like any dual stimulation toy, the We Vibe is going to work best if it fits your anatomy and lays where it's meant to - unless you are going to do crazy scientific-like precision measurements of your vulva it's a bit difficult to know if something like this is going to fit you.

Since the vibrating portions are roughly thumb-sized there's a pretty good chance it'll hit your clitoris in some way. The We Vibe 3 is exactly the same size and shape in every way as compared to previous models. If you are not a fan of girth, if your g-spot is very deep or if your clit is fairly close to your vaginal entrance than perhaps this wouldn't work for you.

The We Vibe, like previous models, doesn't exactly scream "sex toy". Of course if you are traveling with it, the travel case will scream it for you. Well maybe just quietly state it. The We Vibe logo/name is on the outside. The travel case will fit the We Vibe and the remote, with a lid that slids down on top of the charging base and is held there by grippy rubber bits - so it doesn't latch or anything and if tossed in a bag and jostled around it might all come apart. The travel case will not hold the charging adapter, though. If you plan to use this only one or two times (the max usage time on a full charge is 2 hours) then you may not need to bring the charger.

Functions / Performance / Controls

Let's talk power - We Vibe claims that this version has 40% more power than before. If you think about it, 40% more isn't really that much. After all, 100% more would be twice as much. So it's not even half that. If you tried the previous models and were left very underwhelmed - then the power increase won't be enough for you. The We Vibe is quite rumbly and so it feels like much "more" in use as compared to the Lelo Tiani. We Vibe 3 isn't "wow", though. For me personally I had to use my fingers and press the clitoral pad against myself and use it to massage my clit for added stimulation before I felt like I might be able to orgasm with it (I couldn't). If you can orgasm fairly easily with your own fingers, then you might find this suitable. The vibrations are somewhere in between diffuse and well...not diffuse. It's definitely not pin-point. For me the vibration of the g-spot portion wasn't quite enough to really make a difference.

The remote control is very small and basic with only one button. There are no LED lights or anything to tell the remote control holder what is happening with the We Vibe. If used the way We Vibe markets it though I don't see any reason for the remote to be any other way. And the fact that it doesn't "do" anything allows for this fun bit: there are no batteries to change. It won't need to be recharged. It's a "5-7 year" battery and should it ever die on you, you'd be able to get a replacement remote from We Vibe. Unlike the Lelo Tiani, the remote is not required to use the We Vibe. There is still a button on the tip of the clitoral portion that will turn it on, cycle through the 2 speeds and 4 patterns and turn off.

The We Vibe charges via induction. You plug the charger in to the wall and set the We Vibe in the cradle. When you've done it correctly a yellow LED light will glow. There is nothing visual though to tell you when it is fully charged. First time charge takes 24 hours and you will get 2 hours of use from a full charge. Since this one charges via induction there is no charging port and no break in the silicone so it is submersible and 100% waterproof.

Does this work as intended?

That's a loaded question and I can't say that yes it will work for you. It might. It doesn't stay in place very well for us, I have to keep a hand on it.

It is pretty quiet, though. There's no high-pitched whine, nothing that resembles a kitchen appliance, etc. You won't hear this outside a closed door. I'd say that it's actually a bit more quiet than the Lelo Tiani.

One thing also that I don't like is that the silicone doesn't seem to be holding its shape. After 2 uses I can tell that the shape is more "open" than it used to be. This lack of clamping makes it more comfortable but less likely to stay in place or offer any pressure (without help) for your clit.

Care and Maintenance

I'm guessing that you shouldn't boil this but it is 100% waterproof. There is nothing but silicone. No grooves or gaps where silicone and plastic meet, just totally encased. Clean it with soap and water, toy cloths, whatever you personally use for a non-porous material.

They say that you can leave the We Vibe 3 on the charger, with it plugged in, all the time. It won't over-charge. If you love it and use it frequently this is the best option if you're able to have it someplace where you CAN leave it plugged in. The lid that fits over the base will go on it when it is charging and I recommend you do that otherwise you'll have to wash the We Vibe first to remove the hair and fur and dust from it.

Use only water-based lubes!
    • Easy to clean

Packaging

We Vibe comes in a oval-shaped box that is quite plainly obvious what is inside. If you require discretion then I wouldn't recommend keeping it.

The manual is deceiving - at first it looks promising but then you open it to find that it's simply written in damn near every language. No where in the manual or packaging is it mentioned about the remote control and that it doesn't need batteries. Since there is a spot in the charging cradle / travel case for the remote, you might think at first that it also charges via induction. They don't tell you HOW the We Vibe charges. I guess they figure we don't care how.

Personal comments

The bottom line - is it worth it?

eh. maybe.

I'd be able to answer that with a little more enthusiasm if they'd given us more of a power increase. Is it easier to use because of the remote, during sex? YES. Absolutely. The fact that you don't have to use the remote and that nothing requires any batteries is a real plus. The security of knowing that it is fully waterproof is an improvement. If you already own a We Vibe and are bothered by the button or the non-waterproof-ness, you'll want this. If you've tried out the We Vibe and didn't like it, there's nothing very different here that will suddenly change your world.
Follow-up commentary
Can we please have an "I'm ambivalent" option for this? It's not for me, my opinion hasn't changed and it won't since I won't be using it but I neither like it or dislike it. I stand by my opinion though that it isn't complete crap and can work well for some couples.
If anybody is curious as to how the We-Vibe 3 and the Lelo Insignia Tiani compare to each other, I have a comparison post up on my blog.
