Diamond lip gloss - lip gloss discontinued by Cake Beauty - review by Adriana Ravenlust

I was excited for my second cake product, considering how much I loved the first. The thin tube of lip gloss is standard and sealed in perforated plastic, which I had a hell of a time removing in my dead-tired state.

I ordered mine in Pink Icicle which appears a light pink with many, many sparkles in the tube. In fact, in some light, it's nearly impossible to read the white text on the label against the gloss in the tube itself. I also don't see a little sticker that explains the color/shade/flavor on the tube itself. It does appear that the three offered on EF are similar enough in color that this would be helpful.

The lipgloss uses the standard wand and, as soon as you open it, you can detect a faint whiff of vanilla. It's really inviting and sweet, to me. Once I applied the gloss, I noticed very little color. Perhaps just the faintest hint of pink but really, veeeeerry little. However, the glitter was definitely noticeable and perhaps overwhelming for some. If you want something more "day-time" and less "teenager," then you may not like this. The glitter itself is rather tiny but there's a lot of it. It makes your lips shimmer even more than just a standard gloss would.

Although this is a sweet scented lipgloss, it doesn't have much of a taste at all. Some people will like this -- and it doesn't have a disgusting chemical taste to it -- but I like my sweet lipglosses to taste sweet, too.

Sadly, the scent faded super quickly. It only takes a few minutes (maybe less, if I'm honest) and I can't smell it anymore. In that time, the gloss also becomes sticky as in, on a windy day, your hair will be plastered to your mouth. The glitter is also going to get all over anything it touches.

You'd think, then, that I wouldn't like this product but.. I actually kind of love it. That first vanilla-y scent has me hooked so much that I am constantly re-applying this gloss by Cake. All the time. Because of this, it's really hard to determine how long it's going to work before you need to reapply but I wouldn't call this an all-day gloss. A few hours at most.

One of the other things I do have to say is that I like the way my lips feel after wearing this. Frequently, glosses seem to dry out my lips and make them feel chapped. I'm always reaching for the Chapstick after I wear lipgloss and sometimes even wear it under my glosses but I don't feel like I need to do that with this product.

Your mileage may vary, especially if you purchase another color or are looking for a gloss that isn't strongly scented or flavored.

Even though this is a sticky product and the smell doesn't last as long as I'd like, I still find myself wearing it frequently. The initial smell is great and I do like the sparkle and shine.
