Not so yummy

Cake Diamond lip gloss is a pretty shimmery, frosted gloss to make your lips shine. It smells almost good enough to eat. I wanted to like this gloss but the taste and texture just wasn't for me.

Use

Cake Diamond lip gloss is a lip gloss that adds shimmer and shine to your lips. The color I chose is Gold Glimmer. It may add color to your lips depending on how your natural lip color is. For me, my lips are naturally a deep pink color so sheer things that may add tint to lips that are softer and lighter doesn't work for me. This gloss added shimmer and shine but no color. You can also apply this gloss over your lipstick.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

Cake Diamond lip gloss is a bit thick and very sticky. After coating my bottom and top lip, I smoothed them together and it felt tacky. It feels thick and heavy as well as smooth. The sticky texture stays until you wipe the gloss off. It wasn't glossy and slick like I was hoping (despite the reviews I read). With it being thick and sticky, it does stay in place where it is applied. It isn't a "color-stay" gloss and it will come off on your cup or utensil. I didn't attempt to kiss my guy with this on because I just know he would hate the feeling.

The color of the Gold glimmer is a light brownish, soft, frosted gold color. It looks very pretty in the bottle but it doesn't appear that way on the lips.

It can easily be wiped of with a couple swipes of a tissue, though a wipe feels better. After using just a tissue my lips still felt a bit gooey.

Here is the lengthy list of ingredients:
polybutene, hydrogenated polysiobutene, octyldodecanol, canola oil, ozokerite wax, calcium aluminum borosilicate, ethylene/propylene/styrene copolymer, silica, aroma, zea mays (corn) starch, butylene/ethylene/styrene copolymer, c10-30 cholesterol/lanosterol esters, punica granatum sterols, ricinus commnis (castor) seed oil, henoxyethanol, caprylyl glycol, tocopheryl acetate, helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, benzophenone 3, sorbic acid, rosmarinus offfcinalis (rosemary) leaf extract, peg 8, tocopherol, ascorbyl palmitate, citiric acid, ascorbic acid, may contain (+/-) mica, titanium dioxide, iron oxides, d&c red #6 lake, D&C red #7, D&C red #27, fd&c blue #1, fd&c yellow #1, fd&C yellow #6, bismuth oxycloride, carmine, tin oxide, manganese violet

Taste / Aroma

The smell is much like that of freshly baked vanilla cake. It smells good enough to eat but don't lick your lips! This stuff isn't flavored at all and is actually a bit gross if you lick your lips. I really wish they would have made their gloss flavored.

Performance

The gloss can last a good bit of time depending on what your activities are. If it involves constantly drinking from a glass/straw, using utensils or kissing your mate it won't last as long and will require another application.

As I mentioned earlier, it cleans off best when you use a wipe or a cloth/paper towel that you have wet.

Personal comments

I love the other Cake products that I have tried but I was very disappointed in this gloss. It was just too thick and sticky for my liking. I was also bummed that there wasn't a hint of color to my lips but I have that problem often with colors that aren't solid so I was expecting that to happen. It will probably end up in the trash if a friend doesn't want it. It smells so good but the taste is horrible and the texture is just unpleasant for me. I tried several different times to wear the gloss on different days but I just can't bring myself to like it at all.

I don't know how it would feel when applied over lipstick because I don't wear it. It dries my lips out and I constantly feel like I need to put some lip balm on. If I want color I go to a gloss that has a cooling/tingling effect much like the Kissable gloss sold here at Eden or Burt's Bees tinted lip balms.
Follow-up commentary
I tried so hard to like this gloss but it just wasn't happening. The texture was just too sticky for me and I prefer flavored lip products. The smell is great as well as the color but it just wasn't for me. I ended up tossing it. Such a bummer because I love all the other Cake products I've tried.
