Diamonds ARE A Girl's Best Friend

I love super thick glosses that I don't have to reapply every five minutes and this definitely fits the bill--maybe too well. It's a pain in the ass to remove, but it did the job of making me sparkle for hours.

Use

The Diamond Lip Gloss by Cake is, of course, a lightly tinted sparkly lipgloss meant to keep your lips prettily shiny and moisturized. It is a fairly thick gloss that can be used as a standalone product, or in conjunction with your favorite lipstick or lip pencil. This is geared towards women, but if you're interested in a very sparkly lip product, read on, gentlemen.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

Diamond is a very thick, sticky lipgloss that stays exactly where you apply it. The heaviness means that if your hair brushes against your lips they'll stick right to it--and then you'll have to wipe off your hair. However, it's not so thick that rubbing your lips together causes that an unpleasant glue-like feeling. I appreciate the thickness because I never need worry that it'll run or rub off without my intending it to, but it can be a bit annoying when my hair is left down and my gloss is smudged all over.

The gloss is very sticky to the touch; if you rub your finger across your lips, you'll have to wash your hand to get the gloss off, since simply wiping it off won't remove all of the gloss residue.

Taste / Aroma

Predictably, this gloss smells just like baking cake--it's the same scent as a lot of the Cake products; it's really endearing. Unfortunately, it doesn't actually taste like cake--probably for the best, though, because if it did you'd just lick it off your lips. I find that all of the thicker glosses taste similar--a little sweet, but kind of like Vaseline. The scent does fade rather quickly, probably because after a few minutes you get used to the smell, but I wish it lingered a little bit longer.

Performance

The gloss works really well, it left my lips looking as sparkly as the Times Square New Years Eve ball, and made them look plump and extra pink. You have the option to put a lighter coat on or make it heavy (depending on how thickly you apply it) but even when it's applied as a thin layer, it is sticky and doesn't wear off quickly. I prefer to use this over my base lipstick because of how sheer it is (it's virtually colorless when applied, even though it does have a light pink tinge) and how sparkly it makes my lipstick look.

When I didn't wipe it off, it lasted a while, though it did absorb after a few hours. Like all glosses, if you're eating, drinking, or kissing someone you'll need to reapply frequently. The .4 ounce tube should last a while, even with frequent use, and it's conveniently sized to be carried in a purse or a pocket.

I didn't love that, even after I wiped it off, my lips still felt a little sticky for about 10 minutes--I shouldn't need a washcloth to remove my gloss!

Special Features

This gloss expires about 12 months after you open it for the first time.
