Use

Why is the Mangosteen the "Queen of Fruit" you might ask? Well here is a short introductory story quoted from Wikipedia---"There is a legend about Queen Victoria offering a reward of 100 pounds sterling to anyone who could deliver to her the fresh fruit. Although this legend can be traced to a 1930 publication by the fruit explorer, David Fairchild, it is not substantiated by any known historical document, yet is probably responsible for the uncommon designation of mangosteen as the "Queen of Fruit"."

About The Product/Company.

Dona by JO is the name of the new line of aphrodisiac-infused bath and body products formulated by System JO that was launched in December of 2011. This line is designed to increase your energy, stamina and well-being. The products serve as a great function for cleansing, moisturizing and also re-hydrating. What separates this line of products from others on the market is that it creates an amazing sensual experience while taking care of your body. My personal favorite thing about Dona is that it has a 5 step ritual you can use as the ultimate pampering experience to nurture your mind, body and sensuality. This involves the use of multiple products from the line rather than just one or two.

The 5 Step Dona Ritual.

1. Relax---"Slow down and set the sensual tone."
2. Cleanse---"Purify your body using luxurious lathers, exfoliators, and gels."
3. Nourish---"Make your skin touchable and kissably soft."
4. Illuminate---"Enhance your natural beauty and space."
5. Engage---"Share the fun with sensual play products."

Using The Body Polish.

Dona Body Polish is step 2 in the ritual as a scrubbing and polishing cleanser for your skin. For the most desirable results you will want to use this in a warm or hot shower. The screw cap is easily removed to reveal the contents inside; you will find the polish easy to remove with your fingers as it is like a thick paste. You can feel free to use a wash cloth or a loofah to gently scrub the polish over your skin; you can even use your bare hands to rub it all over your body. Also you can use an exfoliating glove to really facilitate in exfoliating your skin. Personally I enjoy just using my hands as it feels more natural rubbing it into my skin. For best results, I recommend having the shower head spraying away from your body and your skin to be damp rather than soaked in water. This is because too much water will generally thin the polish out and wash it off your body before you can really work it into your skin. You can use a generous or a small amount based on what you desire, I find a generous amount really covers nicely and smells great. To make this product last longer, I would say use it once or twice a week rather than on a daily basis. Don't feel limited in using this just on yourself, bring your partner into the shower and spice things up by rubbing each other’s body in this amazing polish that can really set the mood for a sensual and erotic experience. I think everyone deserves to be pampered every now and then; this is a great way to pamper yourself and/or your partner.

Safety/Allergies.

While this product is all natural, caution should be taken before and during use. Please review the ingredients that are in this product before buying it (full details on the ingredients can be found in the "special features" section of this review). Dona Body Polish is for a fact glycerin free, I know the product page does not specify this, but I was able to get this information from a System JO sales rep. I recommend always doing a test spot on your skin, preferably a small test on an area of skin that would normally not be visible in public. This is just a precaution more so to see if you have any irritation or reactions. This product is designed for external use only so please do not ingest any and I would recommend keeping it out of your eyes. If you happen to get any in your eyes, you can flush them out with water for a good 15 minutes. On a final note, I would probably say not to use this right after shaving an area of skin you plan to use the polish on. This is because the skin is more sensitive and the scrub may cause irritation, using a scrub before removes a lot of dead skin helping to shave with more ease.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

The Dona Body Polish is a salt, coffee and rice based product that is specifically designed as a deep cleaning treatment for your skin, sort of like a facial but for the body. I would categorize Dona Body Polish in my personal opinion as a light exfoliator. While it has salt and ground coffee to exfoliate your skin, it is more on the lighter side compared to an abrasive salt scrub. I feel it is more suited towards anyone who enjoys a gentle scrub, rather than a gritty sandy feeling scrub.

The contents inside the 9.5oz tub are a thick paste like substance that is fairly moist at room temperature that is thick and creamy with small hints of textured grit inside. It honestly reminds me somewhat of a sugar cookie dough batter, however more on the wet sticky side and not quite as thick. When applied to the skin in the shower it feels like a creamy paste but quickly thinning out to glide effortlessly and smoothly over the body. The polish does not bubble or foam up from my experience in using it; rather it spreads thin with a hint of white streaks that form. It washes off easily without you feeling the need to scrub yourself down afterwards to remove any undesirable residue. In between your fingers the paste feels sticky, again like if you had cookie dough between your fingers.

If you were to hold the tub upside down and shake it, I highly doubt anything will fall out. I would feel comfortable enough leaving the container on its side without anything oozing out (for a short time). Another important thing I like is there is no separation of ingredients occurring such as oil rising and pooling on the surface. Because it takes minimal water to work the polish into your skin, I would try keeping water out of the container (this will thin the polish). I do also like the appearance of the coffee beans in the paste; it adds a nice touch making it look like tiny chocolate pieces were added in.

Taste / Aroma

Tropical fruit explosion is probably the most simplistic way to describe how this stuff smells. It is unbelievably amazing how natural the scent of this product is. I honestly don't get any hints of artificial or chemical smells, especially no bad after smells. Lately I have had somewhat bad luck with products that have aromatic scents to them. Most of them had either artificial smells or not quite what the product advertised them to be. However, the Mangosteen scent in this body polish is just simply to die for if you are a tropical fruit lover. This smell reminds me of an all natural tropical mango fruit smoothie with a strong tangy decadent sweetness. I cannot quite give this one a specific scent description, there is just so much going on with it! But that is the fun part after all.

In the container, the aroma is more than subtle but not quite overwhelming unless you decide to stick your nose right inside of it. It's definitely a welcoming and calming aroma that makes me want to eat it till there is nothing left. It smells just as good in the container as well as on your skin in the shower. While it may not fill up your whole bathroom with the aroma, it will be sure to smell good rubbing it into your skin. The aroma mixes with the steam, creating a steamy tropical goodness to die for. It is often hard after drying off from your shower to pick up on the aroma on your skin. I found the aroma became rather subtle and light, but still enough to smell it when I placed my nose on my skin. Overall the remaining scent on my skin from using it in the shower was short lived, maybe 2 hours. Thankfully there are no horrid after-smells with this product, just fruity goodness. I think this scent would be amazing to use in conjunction with other Dona products in the same scent.

Performance

So far the polish seems to be lasting very nicely for a 9.5oz container. I have not had the product for too long yet, but I have been using it daily to really give it a good trial. I cannot really stress enough how delicious this scent is in the container and on the body in the shower. Again I just really wish the aroma on my skin after drying off from my shower was more noticeable and longer lasting as a standalone product. However, knowing that this product is designed to be used in conjunction with other Dona products, the aroma is probably subtle for this reason. I would find that the performance would increase in the case of using other mangosteen scented Dona products.

As a nourishing cleanser it performs well, at least on my skin (which is usually sensitive). The ingredients seem to work quite nicely without causing any stinging, burning or red blotchy skin. While there is not nearly as much salt and grit in this polish as a salt scrub, there is still enough to do some light exfoliating. At first this really was a disappointment, but I feel the more I use it, the more I kind of like the idea of it being a cleansing polish. If I were using an actual salt scrub once a week in conjunction with the body polish my skin would most likely be getting a full exfoliation.

After I am done polishing, washing off is easy because there is no thick sticky slimy layers that adhere to the skin. I found after drying off, my skin felt velvety smooth and soft to the touch, at least more noticeably than before I started using this product. After reading about the product line, and how each product is intended to perform, I feel this body polish delivers and provides what it promises. I just really hope that my positive experiences come true for anyone else that tries this product.

Packaging

Honestly there is really no packaging involved with this product when I received it in the mail. It was simply wrapped in a clear plastic bag and the container had a piece of tape over the cover and side to keep the cover in place. The screw cover sits nice and tight on the container so there shouldn't be any worries of it falling off during shipping. The container itself is number 5 PP (Polypropylene) recyclable; it's not the easiest plastic to recycle so you may have to go through a recycling program locally. The container overall is fairly heavy duty and should protect the polish inside if you happen to drop it. As far as opening it, you are probably going to need to use two hands, unless the cover is already loose, I doubt you can use one hand.

Overall, the product is pretty discreet, most of the time it is going to be sitting in your shower. Unless someone picks it up and reads the label knowing exactly what an aphrodisiac ritual is, I honestly wouldn't worry. As far as traveling with this product, I guess it is travel friendly in the sense it will stay closed and not ooze out at all, but the container will be too big if you are limited on how much you can travel with. There is some information on the packaging, directions on how to use, full ingredient list, product features and company address with website. At the time of this review, the website does not currently exist, I know that sounds weird, but I was informed they are working on getting the website up and running.

    • Very informative packaging
    • Would make a nice gift

Special Features

Aphrodisiacs.

In total, there are around 20 different products offered in this new line and all of the products are infused with 1 of 6 proven aphrodisiacs; Açaí, Blue Lotus, Camu Camu, Goji Berry, Mangosteen and Pomegranate.

Ingredients.

Here is a list of the ingredients that are listed on the product itself. As usual "fragrance" is last on the list and this may bother some people. All ingredients are embedded with offsite links to websites with extensive information on that particular ingredient. There is simply too much information to add into this review on each one. I must also add that there is actually "Dead Sea Salt", the minerals in the salt help to facilitate absorption of the aphrodisiac (mangosteen) into the skin. The information on the Dead Sea Salt was provided by a sales rep for Dona. I am unsure as to why the product does not list this as Dead Sea Salt rather than "Sodium Chloride".

Sodium Chloride - Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Oil - Glycine Soja Wax - Isopropyl Myristate - Modified Corn Starch - Sodium Lauryl Sarcosinate - Cetyl Palmitate - Sorbitan Palmitate - Sorbitan Olivate - Cetearyl Olivate - Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E) - Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed - Laminaria Digitata (Algae) - Passiflora Edulis (Passion Fruit ) - Oriza Sativa (Rice) - Orbignya Oleifera (Babassu) - Euterpe Oleracea (Açaí) oils - Coffea Arabica (Coffee) Seed - Garcinia Mangostana (Mangosteen) Fruit Powder - Fragrance.

Additional Features.

Each product is:
-created with natural and naturally derived ingredients obtained from renewable resources.
-eco-friendly and biodegradable.

Personal comments

As a polish by itself this is truly a great product especially at such a low cost! I have seen similar polish/scrub products full of parabens and harsh chemicals that sell for $20 - $60. With Dona Body Polish, you are getting an amazingly all natural, eco-friendly and biodegradable product that performs exquisitely. I am very excited to try more of the products in the Dona line in conjunction with one another for quite the unique pampering experience. While 100 pounds sterling is worth over $150 USD, thankfully Eden Fantasys is willing to share the amazing juicy, sweet, decadent scent of this "Queen Of Fruit" with you for merely $9.99

In addition, here is another link for more information on the Mangosteen fruit including a nice picture of what the fruit looks like. You can visit the link here.

Special Thanks.

Finally I would like to give a few special thanks to Hot 'N Sexy TexasMama for helping in contributing to the review. She is a "bath/body-a-holic" that helped me in completing this review by offering a lot of help and experience. Also a special thanks to Antipova for taking the time to proof-read my review, she rocks! Last but not least, thank you to Ashley at System JO for being so prompt and helpful in providing tons of product information that helped me to complete this review.

Experience

Compared to a lot of people, I would say my experience in bath and body products is nothing close to an expert. I have used a couple of salt scrubs and cleansers in the past. The most expensive salt scrub I have used was a special order $45 product that was in a 6oz container. This was many years ago and I cannot remember much about it, but suffice to say it was superb in keeping my skin healthy. My upper arms tend to get little bumps all over and often my skin will get dry, itchy and just feel overall unhealthy. When I used the $45 scrub it almost completely healed and took away these bumps, (I promise there is a purpose to me telling you this). Already in the short time of using the Dona Body Polish, my arms have already shown a major noticeable change in skin health. Those little red bumps have already started to become less obvious, somewhat fading and smoothing out. I imagine if I continue to use this product for a long period, they may almost completely go away. Suffice to say, if this product can do the same thing as that $45 scrub for only $9.99, then I am definitely sold on this. I have not yet had the pleasure of rubbing this into my partner's body, although I am looking forward to it.
Follow-up commentary
There are a few important things I want to cover in this follow-up review on various things with this product. First off, I have only a small amount of this body polish left, I still love it just as much as I did the first time I used it. But in using it more I have learned a few things about it. In my original review I mentioned there was not enough grit for my preference, however I would say my opinion has changed.

In using this polish in more detail, there is actually a fair amount of salt inside of it. Remember I did choose the "Mangosteen" and it seems each 'super-fruit' is slightly different in color and possibly texture. But I would have to say this product overall is of a medium consistency for exfoliating, not light like I originally stated. I have compared this to some other body polishes and scrubs recently, more notably a $35 Dead Sea salt body scrub that had way less exfoliating ingredients than the Dona body polish. In comparing to a few others also ranging in the $20-$50 mark for 8oz to 14oz containers they all seemed about the same or less in terms of salt content/grittiness. I would have expected more from them for the price and also considering they were called "scrubs" and not a "polish".

Another thing to remember is that Eden uses a higher list price on the Dona product, averaging at $9.99 however I have seen them at half that price at other locations. So in my opinion Dona body polish is of great quality when comparing to cheap products that are full of chemicals and are not natural. While the body polish may not have as many healing properties you are used to in other types of products, it will all determine on your personal skincare needs. Many of the ingredients in Dona body polish are very beneficial to your skin in different ways.

Finally I have found a few ways to better use this product efficiently. Generally to make the scent last longer on my skin after drying off, I usually rub the polish gently for a longer period of time into my skin. This allows better exfoliating while also allowing the ingredients to really absorb into the skin. Also I think I can add more details on the scent now that I have had more time to really indulge in it. While still very fruity I can now pick up on a lot of the undertones of the coffee and a spicy hint to this polish. It is very energizing and uplifting, each time I use it I feel a small burst of energy. Since I do love to drink coffee, I think maybe this is why I enjoy this product so much with the coffee inside of it.

Also with ordering so many different Dona products I have layered them with this product. The layering process I used was all in mangosteen with Dona bath salt/milk, body polish, body wash and body butter/mist lotion. It is really nice to layer with this line and it really provides a wonderful experience. I will definitely be ordering more of this!

Hey everyone thank you for the comments. I wish I could do a follow-follow-up on this but I would like to report that I was gifted some more of the Mangosteen body scrub recently and it seems the batch has changed or is different. The scrub I just got the other week is completely in a different texture and appearance than the first scrub I ever received. The new stuff is very greasy feeling and reminds me of old soggy oatmeal (gross).

So I am not sure what is going on with this product, if they are changing things as time goes by, but please keep in mind my review was done when Dona was still a brand new company and only just released on EdenFantasys.

Happy to hear you enjoyed this product and that it helped with irritation bumps. I will probably add this to my wishlist as that is a huge problem in the winter time. Only bummer thing is that the scent lasts only 2 hours after. I guess it is best used with all the other steps in this line.
