My Olfactory Receptors Are Having A Smellgasm!

Upon ordering and receiving Dona linen spray I expected an average product that I would probably end up letting it collect dust. But after discovering all the usefulness of this spray I have come to thoroughly enjoy it at home and work not only as a linen spray, but a general air-freshener. To my surprise the scents last a long time and are clean, crisp, sharp and enjoyable. This is definitely a versatile product most people will enjoy, especially in their bedroom.

Use

Did you know that humans have around 40 million olfactory receptors that can detect up to 10,000 odors? Olfactory receptor neurons detect chemicals inside of inhaled air which in turn gives us a sense of smell. Suffice to say Dona linen spray is surely one lovely product that puts my olfactory receptor neuron's to work!

Well quite simply as the product page here on Eden shows us this product by System JO is indeed a linen spray and I must say it works quite effectively in this department. It comes in a generous 4.5oz spray-bottle that when you push down on the spray-bottle head a few times for the first use until a fine clear mist starts to eject. After that first use I have not noticed that I have needed to pump multiple times before getting any spray to come out, each of my three bottles always work when I need them. The linen spray is great by itself and can be used in conjunction with other Dona products for a more ritualistic aphrodisiac filled pampering experience (see special features).

Dona by JO recommends you spray around 10" to 15" inches away from your fabrics, don't worry, you won't have any staining as a result. However this recommendation allows a nice layer of the spray to absorb and cling to your linens. If you spray to far away, the spray is dispersed greatly for a much lighter shorter scent, closer gives you a much more concentrated and longer scent. Personally I would not use this on my pillow cases, I generally spray the bedding from time to time, just the top blanket. However you can feel free to spray other things with this product, including 'Liberator' furniture, blindfolds, stuffed animals, household furniture, clothing and even more.

But wait, there's more... This product is not just limited to a simple linen spray; it is much more versatile and useful. Personally I have used it as a general air-freshener around the apartment, I find for best results to spray up high as I am walking, creating a wind-draft to evenly disperse the spray. Another great way is to spray this in front of a blowing and preferably oscillating fan, this will really freshen the place up. Also I have found this spray very useful in spraying garbage cans around the apartment to help with odors. Better yet, it works really well in the bathroom to help with any smelly odors (if you know what I mean) and I have even recently been using it to scent the Dona rose petals. Finally it can be used as a body spray, but I would probably spray it in the air and walk into the spray (with your eyes closed of course).

Now to some safety and other general concerns. I highly recommend you check out the ingredients not only to see if you might have any allergies, but to make sure this product will be safe for your linens. While it may be a linen spray, certain materials may not be 100% compatible with this product. Spot tests on your skin and material are always a good idea to verify any issues. If you read on into the 'special features' section of my review you will find ingredient information. The main thing I will point out is that there is glycerin in this spray from what I can tell.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

Lucky for anyone reading this review because I actually have three of the Dona linen sprays, Mangosteen, Pomegranate and also Camu Camu. In most of the other Dona products each 'super-fruit' or 'aphrodisiac' usually is lightly or heavily colored to somewhat match the theme. With the linen spray it is a different story, the three bottles I have look identical in any type of light. They have a clear watery liquid with no color to them which will be good for no stains.

When you spray this out of each bottle it comes out in a fine mist that quickly fills the air and falls down. I love that the spray is fine, and consistent rather than dripping or sputtering out. You can really say this looks and acts like any other linen spray, air-freshener or perfume/cologne out there. I would keep this out of your eyes as I am sure it would sting, I did not test this out and do not plan on it. When the mist comes into contact with my skin it feels like a cool mist of water. It feels natural as does not burn or irritate my skin and thankfully does not leave any reside behind.

Since the spray has a lot of water in it, it will evaporate much faster in warmer temperatures. In use I have found that the liquid formula works very well on linens as it is intended for. The spray seems to cling and absorb to every fabric I have used it on; each result varies in terms of length of noticeable odor. If you follow the correct instructions you will doubtfully feel any reside on your linens after using this product. Spraying closer forms a more concentrated area of spray on the linens leading to a wet-patch.

The picture I have included is just the spray in the bottle from the underside in liquid form. The top bottle has a hint of blue to is because my camera has blue reflective casing on the front.

Taste / Aroma

If you have followed my Dona product reviews, or tried the Camu Camu, Mangosteen or Pomegranate then you will be pleased to know that these particular ones smell just as good, if not better in the linen spray. Honestly out of all the Dona products I have tried I feel in the linen spray the aroma has a real chance to come through in all its complexity. On top of that, the scents of all three seem to smell fresher and more natural vs. the other products. Using the linen sprays has given me better perspective with the other products. Now I will get to the point and talk about the ones I have.

Camu Camu
The first product I used with this super-fruit was the bath salts, which is a very strong scent I feel that covers up the clean and fresh side of the camu camu. This particular one I feel out of the 3 is more of the 'fresh-air' scent of them, the one that will be more neutral to most people and give a real fresh and uplifting scent. There is a nice blend going on with this one, I feel the coconut that is usually very subtle is more blended in this making it more enjoyable. Basically you won't actually smell your normal coconut scent. There is also a nice light vanilla mix with what may seem strange but almost the smell of pink-lemonade and maybe pink-grapefruit. It has similarities to those, but won't have a lemon scent to it. Overall it is quite soothing and relaxing, something that would be nice to spray before you have guests come over.

Pomegranate
This particular one I really feel seems comparable to the body butter, massage candle and bath milk in the Pomegranate. There is not much of a difference, if any really but overall it has the same noticeable sweet fruity smell. It has a sharp undertone that enhances the spray, but also a extremely light floral aroma that does this too. But when I spray this, I mostly sense a sharp smelling sweet mixed fruit and maybe candy-like aroma. The bath salts in Pomegranate to me smell much like strawberry Pop-Rocks candy, however in the linen spray, it seemed more of a fruity profile with a hint of the candy.

Mangosteen
Ah yes I remember starting out with Mangosteen, such a mood-lifting energizing fruity and spicy aroma. I keep going back and forth between this and the Pomegranate. I have used a lot of the Dona products in Mangosteen and really feel in the linen spray it is a much more crisp and sharp smelling aroma, but nothing in the overpowering sense. In the body polish it has a soapy smell with it and also with the body wash, however in the linen spray, oh baby it smells good! My senses pick this one up as a natural smelling melon blend, but I can definitely pick up on what seems like cantaloupe. The nice thing is though that there is this nice strong bold spicy aroma (similar to coffee) that goes with it, which doesn't give it a watery melon scent. This one is my favorite overall and really gives me an energizing feel.

Summary
I found all three of these linen sprays to smell wonderful in their own way and also in different usage. Camu Camu was best I felt as a linen spray and air-freshener. Pomegranate I found best for use for odor covering, such as bathroom and garbage cans and also on linens for when I am in the mood for the sharper scent. However while Mangosteen is my favorite spray, it is almost the most limited for me, mainly because my fiancée does not like the scent at all. Mangosteen I found was great as an air-freshener for me, while I love the scent, I don't personally feel it’s the most appropriate for linens.

All in all I found all of these to be mostly natural smelling, with a hint of artificial smells but no chemicals and no alcohol smell. I cannot stand any product that has a strong alcohol smell to it. When sprayed on the linens and/or the air, I did not find any of these to be overwhelming or overpowering, no resulting headaches either. The aroma lasts maybe 30 minutes to 2 hours in the air depending on size of the room and air circulation. On linens, more specifically bed sheets I did a test of all 3 in separate spots. Each scent after about 16 to 18 hours later was still noticeable on the bedding but only if my nose was fairly close. Most other sprays I have used dissipate after minutes, in use Dona linen spray has lasted me from 2 hours up to 18 hours. Please note results will always vary on a person to person basis, cleaner linens will hold onto the scents longer also.

I did not taste this and will not, I recommend you do not do this either as this product is not for consumption.

Performance

After much use and testing of all three of the linen sprays I used, I have found many good results from them. I'm sure some readers may disagree with my results due to their own experiences, but I do write honest reviews based on my experience.

First, I found all three of the sprays to work superbly as a linen spray. Testing these was the best way to see how they would work so I tested each one on a different fabric. Starting with pomegranate on the spare bed, camu camu on the master bed, and mangosteen on one of my favorite blankets. Each one was from about 12" away and concentrated in a smaller area rather than spraying the whole blanket. I did this later at night, around 8pm and the next day when I woke up around 9am I went to smell each spot I sprayed. Pomegranate was the most noticeable remaining scent, followed by Mangosteen then Camu Camu. Please note I put my nose within an inch of the linens. I repeated the test again, however spraying higher in the air, and letting the mist fall over the whole blanket. In this scenario the same order of scents with Pomegranate being the strongest, the overall scent lasted maybe 2 to 3 hours maximum depending on how much was sprayed.

As a linen spray these honestly perform very well in my opinion, I was very surprised to find out how long they lasted considering they are not the strongest scented linen spray I have used. Then with the bonus of no staining forming from the use of these was even better. As far as these performing for air-freshening purposes they are not too bad, they obviously are not going to be as good as a nice big can of air-freshener you can get at a department store. In the air depending if my windows are open or not and if I have any fans blowing, the scent seems to vary from 30 minutes to maybe 1 1/2 hours.

I'd like to point out that some people have a better sense of smell, I often can smell things that other people cannot. Also lately with smelling a lot of Dona products I can really pick up on the scents easier. So please understand your results may just very well vary with this product, especially if you use a personal favorite other brand linen spray.

In the following picture I put a sheet of white printer paper up on a hook and sprayed each linen spray on the paper from 2" away. This was mostly just to show there was no color to them. Mangosteen is the far left, middle is pomegranate and far right is camu camu.

Packaging

The linen spray comes in what I find to be a more user friendly package that is fairly versatile without taking up a lot of room. It holds 4.5oz of linen spray and stands 6 1/2" tall with the clear plastic cap on and with a 1 1/2" diameter bottle. This one is easier to travel with but I would still place it in a zip lock bag because you never know if any leaking may form. The sprayer itself is secured in by screwing it in place and should not leak, I have not experienced any.

The bottle is easily reusable so when you run out of spray you can rinse it out and replace with another spray if you like. As usual the packaging mentions the aphrodisiacs briefly without much detail; otherwise this product is very discreet. The container overall is a sturdy hard plastic that is recyclable no. 1. I received one linen spray wrapped in a clear bag from Eden; the other 2 came from the manufacturer with other Dona products separated with brown paper and not clear plastic bags. I would probably just store these anywhere around the house, and however I'd keep out of direct sunlight. Also I’d keep these standing upright, while they don't seem like they would leak, you just never know.

Personal comments

The ritual---For me the ritual isn't very important, I honestly get impatient easily and if I were to spend an hour or more doing this ritual I wouldn't enjoy it as much. I find doing 2 or 3 steps is just fine. I'll often bath in the bath salt or bath milk then shower with the body polish or body wash, finally finish up with body butter or mist lotion. The linen spray is just an accessory to me rather than an important part of the ritual. It smells good, but after doing all the other steps I can only handle so much of the scents. But by itself the linen spray works best I think, it can really make you feel relaxed or uplifted and energized for some fun.

Again with all the Dona products I don't feel affected by the 'aphrodisiac' properties at all, at least not in a sexual way. In using the products I do feel a considerable change of mood and state-of-mind and generally always in a positive way. I feel a linen spray like this should last you for many months depending on how often and how much you use it. I don't use mine daily but rather I use it every other day and I rarely notice a drop in the level of liquid.

Unfortunately there has been a comment or two saying that certain people having been talking up the Dona by JO line for more than what it is. I would like to say that I write honest reviews all the time, if I wanted to talk this line up even more I'd say that the aphrodisiacs turn me into a horny jack-rabbit. What needs to be considered is that everyone's results and use of each product will vary, it so just happens Dona by JO line of products work for the most part fantastically for me. The last thing I will point out is the price, these are set at a much cheaper price by System JO. Here on Eden they have a higher price because of the points program and many other factors. I am rating this product 5 stars for it's quality, performance, and versatility.

Experience

From start to finish and looking at this product as a whole I have come to really enjoy using it. I can look past a label issue and an aphrodisiac claim; I care how the product works. While writing this review I have used the linen spray a few times, one particular time I did accidentally and unintentionally get some in my eyes, it did sting to say the least. It wasn't anything terrible, but I did flush my eyes out with water.

My fiancée has been using the linen spray as a body spray and she loves it in the camu camu. I'll often hug her and smell it on her body and clothes. She has carried it around in her bag many times and even showed it to her friends and they enjoy the smell too. It's now to the point where her friends want me to sell the products so they can get their hands on them.

Finally I have taken all 3 of these sprays to work and on different days I will spray these near the front of the store where customers enter. While a lot of them don't comment I have heard several say "mmmm it smells really good in here". It also has been super helpful to take to work in order to deal with nasty body-odor from some people. I have not showed these to my co-workers, rather I sprayed around the store and they have made comments like, "someone's wearing some nice spray".

I feel comfortable in my experience that I could recommend this product to others so long as you remember to check out the ingredients and do test spots first. I'd say try this linen spray with an open mind, it is definitely unique and enjoyable.
Follow-up commentary
This linen spray lasts forever! I have one at work and 2 at home. My fiancée keeps the Camu Camu with her at all times now and uses it primarily as a body spray. I keep the Mangosteen at work to freshen up the store from time to time and the Pomegranate stays at home for freshening up the place and linens. My wedding is coming up and I will have 4 adults and 2 children staying with us, the linen spray will make a great surprise and a useful way to keep things smelling great.

Other than all the uses I thought of in my review I have not found any other kinds of uses for this product. All three bottles seem to be last a long time and I think the lowest one is the Camu Camu at half a bottle left. This is a great product and a great buy, something I foresee me purchasing again without hesitation.
