By the Sea, By the Sea

Sliquid Sea is a pleasingly long-lasting water-based lube that isn't sticky and absorbs easily without leaving behind any nasty buildup. Being water-based it is safe for all toys and condoms. It has no taste or noticeable smell and above all has a short ingredient list which contains no glycerins or parabens, making it safe for sensitive users.

Use

I've found Sea to be good basic lubricant for many uses. I use it mostly with my toys and during vaginal sex with my partner. I wouldn't suggest it for much anal play as it's a bit on the thin side but it's certainly slick enough to allow a finger or possibly two to slip in unimpeded.

I definitely wouldn't use this lube in a bath, shower, sprinkler, rainstorm, or any other wet environment as it is water-based and rinses away quite easily even for that.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

I haven't experimented with a very wide variety of lubes but I would pick this as my favorite of the water-based lubes I've tried. It's certainly not thick or goopy. It's more on the thin side but thankfully doesn't fall into the realm of runny, watery lubes which never seem to make penetration much slicker and drip everywhere.

Sliquid Sea claims to emulate the body's natural lubrication and I would have to say it holds up this promise rather well. I love the fact that it isn't sticky, which is one of my biggest pet peeves with lube. Even as it dries it seems to almost absorb into the skin, leaving behind a somewhat moisturized effect but without the damp drag that lotion leaves behind. I've also noticed, much to my delight, that continued friction between surfaces where the lube has dried doesn't result in that sticky, gunky build-up that balls up and clumps in hair. I think we can agree that is decidedly unsexy, so the fact that this lube bypasses that entirely is a major plus in my book.

Taste / Aroma

The first thing I did upon opening this bottle of lube was to pour a small amount on my hands, slick them together a few times, and then place them up to my nose and inhale. No scent. None. In fact, if I remove the push-top lid and hold the bottle under my nose there is only the faintest hint of a fragrance I can only describe as "clean". It's a light, nigh-upon unnoticeable smell even up close to that amount of lube. Certainly unobtrusive, and unoffensive even if you should catch a hint of it.

The second thing I did was to place a small drop on my finger to taste. If I had to ascribe a taste to it, I would say it tastes like water. When it's slicked over my partner's or my skin, though, I can't taste it at all and it only somewhat covers the natural sweet and salty tang of skin.

Performance

While obviously not as long-lasting as silicone lubricants, I was pleased by the longevity of Sliquid Sea. It certainly holds up to its claim of being "blended to emulate your body's own natural lubrication". I have had to reapply during sex, but not as often as with other water-based lubes and again I have noticed that reapplying doesn't result in the unpleasant, gunky build-up I get with some other lubes. As with all water-based lubes Sliquid Sea can be reactivated by applying water. I have noticed that adding water dilutes the lube some, more so than with other, thicker lubes, but this doesn't impede functionality unless you're liberally dousing the area with H2O.

As far as clean-up goes I would say that while you could certainly let the product dry and not worry about that unpleasant stickiness between your thighs and the crease of your legs, this lube rinses off very nicely with just water. I found this to be a huge plus given my partner's habit of showering immediately after intercourse to remove what we have termed "goop". With this lube clean-up is just as easy with a damp washcloth.

Packaging

Sliquid Sea comes in a clear bottle with a cute, flirty teal label with a floral design and simple typeface. The front reads, in large letters, "sliquid" and underneath, in smaller font, "natural intimate lubricant". Ingredients, information about the lube (such as that is is water-based and water soluble, hypoallergenic and non-staining, etc.) and Sliquid's motto are all found on the back in small font.

Because it states fairly clearly on the front of the bottle what it is I wouldn't exactly call it discreet, but unless someone is taking the time to look the bottle over they won't know what it is. Even if I realize I've left the bottle out somewhere I don't have to worry as the packaging is simple and tasteful enough to escape closer inspection.

The lid to the bottle is push-top like many shampoos, conditioners, etc. I still have plenty of lube but as with other similarly packaged products I would imagine that when you start to get low you can simply store the bottle on its head to keep the remaining bit near the top where it is easily accessible.

When traveling I would put this bottle in a plastic bag to be safe but I do that with any liquid and have had no problems with this bottle leaking at all.

Personal comments

I would have to list this as most likely my favorite water-based lube. I really, truly adore the fact that it isn't sticky and doesn't leave behind nasty build-up (probably because of the absence of glycerins). I can't say enough about that.

It has no taste or smell which is a huge plus especially if, like me, you like having the option of going down on your partner after penetration without a noseful of stale chemical smells and a mouthful of sickly tasting lube.

Experience

I think the one strange thing about this lube is that if your activities become particularly … vigorous, shall we say, it begins to froth. Not like toothpaste or bubble bath—you aren't going to look as if you have genital rabies—but a very small amount of translucent to whitish froth may become noticeable. Sliquid has addressed this and says it's a harmless result of the cotton-derived plant cellulose. It doesn't change sensation and is nothing to be going on about, but some people may be curious as to why they've gone bubbly so it's good to have an explanation on hand.
Follow-up commentary
Having used this lube for several months now, I still love it. I haven't noticed any additional smell or taste that I missed when it was new (in fact, it rather helps remove that nasty balloon taste after a condom is removed.)

I can say that we definitely use less of this than most water based lubes, I was surprised to see that we still have half a bottle left-- I thought it was time to restock! We would have more but we had to learn to use less of this lube than our previous.

Overall I'm still very happy with this lube and definitely plan to buy it again when the time comes.

Fantastic review! Thoroughly discussed all lube qualities with detail and precision. I'm a sliquid fan and have been considering this product for awhile and now you've convinced me. Very interesting and slightly humorous that this lube froths. Really excellent review.

I love that you mentioned rainstorm as a bad situation to use this lube in. It makes me imagine a couple standing in the rain, thoughtfully browsing lube reviews on a smart phone.

Thanks for an outstanding review! Your writing is exceptionally good. This sounds like a GREAT lube. I'm not surprised at all; Sliquid Organics Gel instantly became our favorite lube. When that finally runs out, we'll probably buy more of it — unless it's out of stock or something, in which case, we may well buy this.
